Welcome back! This past week I've had the opportunity to drive an incredibly rare Nissan Stagea Autech 350s imported from Japan. Mostly because my Skyline is currently off the road in a state of disrepair, but also because Patrick @thebcroll thought I'd enjoy this odd piece of Nissan's history from the end of the Stagea's lifespan. This is the only M35 generation Stagea to be fitted with a 6-speed manual transmission. Under the hood is a 3.5L VQ35DE V6 putting 276HP down to the rear wheels. Enjoy!

Was I too harsh on the 350s?? :/ It's all out of frustration! It's much quicker than a WRX wagon, and more room too. It's tough when there's a lot to live up to, though. Enjoy!

I shit You not I just saw one of these on a stance setup at my local No frills😂😂 at first I was like oh shit is that a fucked up Evo Wagon? Then I looked at it more and was blown away👀👀👀👀👀 and it was feamle driven it was really cool to see! These are wicked to see in person👌

Say what you will about this… but I want one. I’ve had my 04 G35 sedan since 08 and although I’ve had a handful of cars come and go since then, I’ve never really wanted to sell the G. It does everything well enough to not outweigh another category. Quick enough to be fun, but not drain my wallet by way of gas, repairs or maintenance… and it has so much aftermarket support to keep them on the road longer than it has a right to have. I only wish it was available in LHD. If I had the time, I’d love to swap everything out of my G onto a clean low-mileage Stagea body. 25 year rule (USA) keeps me from having one.

I am more impressed how you made the trumpet wagon sound kinda meaty 😂😂😂😂 The open diff makes a rear wheel drive car be very twitchy. Against popular believe, an LSD makes an rwd car safer to drive. Also this is probably not the first one. I already found another 2 Canadian owners. That said, these cars are hopeless in the snow

@@RoadsUntraveled I own a white 350s in Ontario (the one from the PCA video). I just wanted to add that there is an available factory LSD on the 350S. There were very few options when ordering a 350s but a twin Sunroof and a Viscous LSD were optional. After looking over the registry 96 of the 167 cars were built with the LSD rear end. Just throwing that out there lol

also as a wagon (nothing to do with autech or otherwise) it is a much more achieved vehicle than the past. The car features a full flat trunk and a split open tail gate as well as improved rear seat knee and head room. It's a better car, just not a better 90s jdm. It is not a 90s jdm to begin with. It's the writing on the wall of what's to come for early 2000s in the Japanese mainstream car manufacturing - cut cost, sell more SUV and boring people movers.

ive had x2 you need 275 40 18 wide m sport ,on the rear they stick, but not cheap .

I wanna know how it is to daily a car like that, a bigger LHD car. For some reason, LS460s are dirt cheap in Japanese auctions. They go for less than 2k USD so I might import one to Europe where I live. Luckily we don't have stupid 15 or 25-year rules, just ehh, taxes.

I own an Autech Axis, but mine has the vq25 turbo and 5 speed auto. For a daily this car is amazing going around the city, and over taking on the highways it’s got lots of power. Only drawbacks to the stagea is the horrible fuel economy, you can rarely get 500km to a tank. But overall, I wouldn’t trade my Stagea for anything else

@@JyleeHalsted I wonder if an LPG conversion is possible. Normally they are done on naturally aspirated engines but the higher octane of LPG should only help the turbo. With gasoline prices of 1.923 USD per liter and LPG prices of 1.013 USD per liter it's extremely enticing to convert the engine as the conversion is amortized quickly and you'll start saving money. How bad is the fuel consumption of your car exactly?

@@imnotusingmyrealname4566 I’m not too sure about LPG conversions for the stagea. But for my fuel economy I am getting about 20L/100km of premium gas here in Canada. It is not good at all 😭

@@JyleeHalsted It's not a big V8 but it sure has the same fuel economy. My sympathies for the fuel. These conversions are done on a case by case basis so you could look for a mechanic that does conversion close to you.

Nothing special in the RB. Same workhorse engine lineup as the VQ is. VQ is the successor to it. Any RB encounter i have had, they did not spark anything special. Not rev happy or anything imo. I'm afraid the stock or stockish cars i had tried were too old and needed a refresh already. Even the old VG in the Z32 was more fun. Vq seems happier, new technology and revs good but imo suffers also by the same technology with new emissions strategy and early drive by wire throttles. Rb only seems to be special on youtube. Sorry i think the Stagea did not deserve the negative and the RB the praise. Also M35 came out on a pretty bad time for Nissan so some things suffered a bit(the whole design studio)

Well said. This M35 is easily faster than a stock wgnc34 even if equipped with an RB26. Being slimmed down to 1500 ish kilo dry it's a way peppier automobile too, despite not having the same kind of theatricals.

The VQ can be upgraded some but not much. You have so much flexabilty on upgrading the RB, and even the VG. The open deck design of the VQ is what kills it under boost. You can run 15PSI on both the RB and VG all day. If someone built a good drop in closed deck design for the block, then i feel it would be right up there and possibly better, but to this date, i have yet to see one. :(

These cars are trash. I drove a few looking for a stagea even drove one with only 80'000kms on it. They are "ok" but they are bigger you sit way to high and feel detached from the road. I ended up getting a 1999 rs four manual stagea. Much much better 2x the car ;)
