"Made quite a few of them". Uh, no. 1815 for our market across 3 (not 2) model years. Values already rising on clean, low mileage cars. Many other strange observations and factual inaccuracies (8k RPM redline, not 7500 for instance).

You cannot tell after 12 years if the value will go up. Look at how much an Audi S2 Coupe in good condition costs now. It is fuckin expensive. And the S2 Coupe was never a match to an M (of course comparing it within the time are in which they were relevant), because it would be called "RS2 Coupe" then. A car which has been so rarely produced like the Z4M Coupe with such an iconic silhoutte and a bunch of unique features WILL go up in value. Otherwise: I will buy that Z4M Coupe in 10 years, 90.000 Kilometres run, top condition, for € 12,000.00 in ten years ;). So I win either way.

@@ScubaAlpineDriver the "rod bearing issue" isn't an issue at all, it's a maintenance item. Ultra tight clearances necessitate this, and it's not an outrageously expensive maintenance item at around 70,000mi. The car should NOT be warmed up by allowing to idle - drive straight off, keeping loads low and revs under 3000 until oil temp normal - that's why the car has an oil temp gauge and not a water temp gauge.

Long time Clownshoe owner here and always wanted to add a Z4M to the collection. The Z4M is actually rarer than the Clownshoe. In North America it was produced three model years, 2006,2007 and 2008. Most were produced in 2007. The total production was 1,815 which was much lower than the 3,000 Clownshoe’s produced, though Z3M Coupes like mine with the S54 engine were only 678 units....Z4M’s have been appreciating, approximately 10 percent a year for the last three years. My Z3M has gone up about 50 percent in the last 5 years but have been flat the last year or two.

Good perspective, and now in 2023 (excepting a recent softening for most classics) there's been a steady rise. The big rise is yet to come, but given the car's rarity and unique analogue spec, inevitable. They don't make 'em like this any more!

The only car I have driven on a track that was better than a Z4MC was a 911 GT3. The Z4MC is just not a car well suited to the street. What makes that car special has nothing to do with the engine and everything to do with the chassis. It’s the stiffest chassis BMW has produced. Sadly it’s also the last track focused M car BMW has produced. I own an 02 Z3MC and the Z4MC is, performance wise, in an entirely different league.

@Audidude
@Audidude Жыл бұрын
"nothing to do with the engine" - what?!! It's the crowning glory of the car, and one of the main reasons to own one! Yes the chassis is great too, but dismissing one of BMW's best engines like that is simply silly. Yes, I have one, and it's a better engine than Porsche's vulnerable M96/97 and Aston's NA 6L V12, and the equal of Honda's B18CR - I have all these too. Otherwie I agree with what you said - its "street car" cred is limited by the hard uncompromising suspension, which really only comes into its own at higher speeds when being pushed.

And if you love the e46 m and talk negatively (or dismissing) on the e86 m, then you r just nitpicking and/or not into the looks/form factor. The steering and brakes are csl. This is a 2seats csl. And for the form factor, the brz/frs/86, the new Supra (the old one too), the f-type, mx-5 rf, and Aston Martin Vantage, are all the same form factor as the e86. So, I don't how people r not noticing. Blinded by flares I guess. Solution to the rattling, get the RPI exhaust + CF plenum (aka 2seat csl)

As many here have already pointed out, not the best review of the car. Hint: to fully explore the S54's potential you need to rev it right to 8000 RPM. And on a high-strung N/A engine the final 500 RPM you've missed makes all the difference. The S54 in the Z4M is an interesting set since it is coupled with the E90 M3 ECU. It makes for stronger mid-range punch and more power at the peak.

Roads Untraveled, you are so misinformed about the E86 Z4M. In truth the collect-ability of this car has surged in the past couple of years. There are three at my local Enthusiasts Auto Group (EAG) and the least among them is an 07 which has 44k miles, and is for sale at $40,000.00 USD. There is also the Z4M Buyers Guide: www.z4mcoupebuyersguide.com/listings I wish I could afford the lesser M at EAG, but there are others out there (to lust after). A solid car inspection is required. Having said that, go out, find and and review the 2008 Z4 3.0si (manual). I'll keep my notification on. :) Hurry before the price of those goes through the roof (because the Z4M is soon to be too rich for most people's blood ) Nice driving, btw.

With a large rectangular convex blind spot mirror set at low inside corner of the side view door mirrors there is absolutely NO blind spot and the image is large enough that it immediately becomes the primary mirror.It is far better than "looking over your shoulder". You pick up the image in mirror much quicker by turning your head many tens of degrees less and your eyes come forward quicker. I get my mirrors at the local store,6 bucks a pair. Round blind spot mirrors reflect back at the car putting unnecessary info into the image,seeing away from side of vehicle is the only image you want. C'mon on man, it's driving 101 and I learned this at 17.

Clownshoes are going up but it's mostly the S54 variants of which there were 678 made in North America. While the Z4M coupe had production numbers of 1815. So yes there are more of them (2.67x more) but I wouldn't say that these won't go up in value, I just think they haven't gotten to the point where they're old enough to be considered a classic. (give it 3-4 more years?) I agree with you on 2 things: 1) I hate hate hate the nav system in my car, and wished I'd gone non-nav. 2) The front is plain indeed, but compared to the non-M z4's this frontend is a 100x better.

Wow, this review is terrible. Bad information... it was produced for 3 years, not 2. It readlines at 8000rpm not 7500rpm. I'm over 6' and take 6hr road trips every year and very comfortable. They didn't make "quite a few" of these... only 1815 in the US. The Z3 M Coupe is actually LESS rare as there were 2858 made. The values of the z4 M Coupe are rising and are $25k - $45k and the z3 M Coupe are about the same. He also talks about it feeling heavy when it's 3141 lbs and the z3 M Coupe which he compares it to is 3031 lbs... so... if he had a very small friend in that car with him or slightly different amount of gas in the tank... they weigh the same. This review is ridiculous.

Seeing as we're on the subject, I have a 997.1 C2 manual. The appeal of the Z4 is its raw edgy and sharp responsiveness of bothe the engine and the chassis. The 911 is more refined and comfortable. They are pretty much lineball in performance. If I could only keep one it'd be the Porsche. Because it's a 911, not a Boxster or Cayman - ;)

@FabioTWK
@FabioTWK 5 жыл бұрын
@@E_tiBEAMERBOY "way more fun to drive" is seriously exaggerated. The two cars are practically identical besides engine, gearbox and steering (talking about the "sport" spec of the 3.0si). The steering of the 3.0si isn't hydraulic but isn't bad at all. On this the M car is better but it's barely noticeable. Gearbox is a clear win for the 3.0si, much smoother and easier to operate. Finally engine.. the 3.0 engine is much more elastic and torquey, so much that in road driving scenarios the 3.0si figures sometimes beat the M car (and in general, there's not so much difference). The M is a track car, the 3.0si is the road car, and on the road is definitely "more fun to drive" than the M. (I have owned both cars, sold the M, decided keeping the 3.0si). Finally.. the 3.0si isn't really "more comfortable" (or yes, it is in SE spec) but definitely smoother and more pleasant to drive on the road. Even Evo magazine, an hardcore UK sports car magazine that is all about high performance, track-oriented versions of cars, when did review the 3.0si concluded they could not see a reason to spend 10k more to buy an M. Except you're a collector or buy the car only to drive it on track, I would add.
@virtualinfinity6280

I got my 3.0si 5 years ago as my daily driver. Before I got one, I drove both back to back (z4-m and 3.0si). And I went for the 3.0si. Yes, overall, the Z4-M is the "better car" - the engine, hydraulic steering, no run-flats and the LSD are the big pluses. However, there is one big point in favour of the 3.0si: It is CONSIDERABLY lighter (100kg) than the Z4 M. And you notice that. It does not make the 3.0si as fast as the M, but it corners like hell and has massive amounts of grip to go along. It is cheaper, uses less fuel and is MUCH cheaper in insurance (here in Germany). I got used to the electrically assisted steering - which after loads of true M cars annoyed me at first - and actually like now, as it makes the car very easy to turn in town. As i do not use the LSD regularily, I get along quite well with the "fake LSD" implemented in electronics using brakes. The powerband of the N52B30 is much more accessible and the reduced weight is very noticable. I clearly follow Colin Chapman (of Lotus cars), who once stated: "If you want to have a better sports car, add less weight". If you want a true NA M car, the Z4 M is probably the best you can get. No doubt about that. But if you want a very good BMW NA sports car, the 3.0si is IMHO the better choice.

Not a cult classic? This is way more desirable than a E46 M3 and has already gone up in value. One of the best drivers M cars ever. Much better steering than a E46 (this thing has a E46 M3 CSL steering rack), a lighter car (only weighs 3200lbs as compared to every other 3500lb+ M car out there...including the E46 M3), super rare (only like 1600 models made for 2 years), and much stiffer and more reactive than a E46 or E92. It is a proper dedicated sports car. I don't know how you can say it isn't. And the redline is 8000 rpm...not 7500.
