When I road tripped Iceland (in the winter) we put a colourblind person in charge of directions, now, the problem comes as in Iceland there's a website that you need to look at to see which roads are fine, and which are completely covered in snow, with the ones that are fine being green and those that are not being red, we just so happened to go (last year) when there had been a really big snowfall, so naturally checking the website was very important. But the person we put in charge could not tell the difference between the red and green roads and took us down a road marked as 'impossiblento pass' on the map, we got very stuck, but long story short about 3 hours later with two other families, who had been snowed in on the road we were on, we had ploughed an entire road of snow, (making tracks for the cars to go on in the deepest parts) having got stuck numerous times, and the other two families got to enjoy there holidays as they could get out! So not all bad!

Driving a campervan or rental car in Iceland is just foolish. Car rental companies who rent out vehicles in winter only care about profits and not about your safety. Only drive during summer!
