Making an old 4wd extremely capable with some Harrop E Lockers! Installing these onto our old GQ Patrol with a TD42 motor to make this thing a bloody weapon off road. It is definitely one of my most recommended mods to anybody looking to get into 4wding as it just transforms the whole car and takes it to a new level!

If you’re talking value for capability… a front locker and the largest lsd shin in the rear was the ACTUAL answer. But both is good🤷‍♂️😂

The LSD shim is crock! You cant fit 8mm of shims into a 7mm space! - unless the disc are completely flogged out. Not all carriers will take the shim. The TJM pro-locker is far stronger than the small e-locker.

I love shed stuff to but my shed is always trashed haha joys of owning 4 completely different cars and working on other peoples cars I have 3 sheds and never enough room for parts or tools haha

As far as I know they only make the front and rear drive 50/50, but yes they are good!!

How much bearing preload did you put into it? noticed you skip over that part and go straight to backlash - any reason for that? is it a bitch to do?

Haha wellll, I don’t exactly know how to do it the right way so I skipped it in the video, I can’t find much info on it! What I did do (not saying it’s right) I had the backlash set to the most I could, so basically have the crown wheel all the way to the side with heaaaps of backlash Then I just done up the pre load untill I felt the crown wheel sorta go square and rigid, then I just adjusted till I felt a little bit of drag on the bearings and left it at that! I’ve done this a few times and works fine but unsure if it’s correct way and don’t wanna bum steer anyone!

@@RoamLyfe Hey mate appreciate the reply regardless - we're all just trying to learn hey. Here's what i've heard... Local diff shop bloke told me to first get the backlash to spec - then turn in the side adjusters one notch at a time on both sides until the outer bearing rings spin with the bearing adjusters. Not sure if it's right but that's what I'm going with when I install my elocker next week! (unless someone recommends otherwise?)

@@aussieo684 I’ve done that before on a locker and it worked! You can see the bearing race start to move and then stop. I think as long as it’s not too tight you’ll be fine!! I did also check that the crown wheel wasn’t wobbling back and forth with the dial indicator!

First thing is make the car roadworrhy & reliable. First mods if I was going offroad is 1. Tyres 2. Suspension 3. Winch 4. Lockers Dude! Just because the grease looked good, does not mean the parts covered by the grease are good. I would have cleaned inspected & regreased. Plus I would have changed the diff ratio to recalibrate, to suit the larger tyres

Yeah I get that haha, I don’t have much money at the moment so I decided not to rebuild the hubs, I can tell they have been done not long ago and the previous owner told me they got done! I wasn’t concerned, I see a lot of similar parts at work and I can tell when new seals and parts are fitted 🙌
