I think that your final torque values are high if they are 44 ft lbs. Also, you did not mention putting thread seal on the bolts.

so no thread sealer on intake bolts i give it 5k before its pissing oil on top of intake

What gasket do i use for my edelbrock performer on iron eagle heads? there is a gap at the runners. Seems heads were milled before i got them.1970 350cu

Wondering why you left the exhaust ports open to the manifold. You don't have a choke you are running off of the manifold..... cold climate perhaps? Wouldnt you worry about vapor lock? Also, wondering why Endlebrock even left that provision on the manifold!?

It helps to warm up an electric choke if your running one since they are designed to operate at 72*. If you have an electric Avs 2 carb or any of their carbs and run them without that exhaust crossover it will take longer to heat up and stay closed for longer. This is an intake for a daily driver not much for racing. Down low torque up to 5k rpm. If you run an air gap intake you’ll quickly find out why that exhaust crossover is there since your electric choke won’t work right if you drive outside with anything below 60*. The air gap will keep the intake manifold so cold that your choke will close itself AFTER your engine has been warmed up. (Considering you have a good cooling system). People compensate this by running a hotter thermostat 180* but that defeats the whole purpose of the intake since the air gap is made for mid -high rpm

You are NOT torquing the intake bolts properly. You should begin in the center of the manifold and rotate in a circle. Also you use entirely too much silicone sealer which will squeeze out into the lifter valley possibly breaking off and falling into your oiling system. The torque value on aluminum manifold to cast iron heads should not exceed 30 ft lbs. 25 ft lbs is best. On Aluminum to aluminum 10-15 ft lbs is best. I have been putting engines together for 60 years and I would not do it as shown. I am not intending to piss you off but that is not the way to torque a aluminum maifold you are rolling the dice and are close to cracking the casting or pulling the threads in the cast iron with 44 pounds of torque.

@@plutocrank wont lie i wish i did put as much as he did lol. i got this exact same gasket set and finished installing it not long ago. did a first start up and immediately leaking on one of the water ports. Didn't use enough or something but i cleaned the surface well before applying it. i have a feeling if i used more i would have been good

@@CarsnStuff wow thats interesting to hear. I used far less than he did and have no issues at all. Water ports are great. Did you use thread sealant for the bolts as well?

@@plutocrank yep, didn't have any issues with leaks from the bolts. Just one corner where the water port had a pretty bad leak. I got my manifold back off and going to replace it tomorrow. Hopefully better luck this time lol

You said to torque half way at 22 foot pounds. Do you go back and tighten again at 44-45 foot pounds?

No I wouldnt do 40 foot pounds. Weiand says following the gm pattern do 10ft/lbs then 15 and a final of 25. But i would not do 40 ft/lbs
