Although I don't think Gallagher is an upgrade from TAA, but playing a players out of their natural position always carries a risk of being exploited, they might play well overall but they also have one or two misjudgement that players in the right position would always aware of, it's just too much of a risk especially for defenders, no. 6 and 8, unless someone like Pep making the decision. Just play Mainoo, he's more than ready to play on the big stage...

i would play the exact same team, in the exact same formation, we used against serbia. except this time i would play in the opponents half and have shots. a bit like the players are all used to at thier clubs. rather than just passing around in defence and wait for the oppopsition to get back into possition, i would attack them properly like good teams do. the formation and players are not the problem.

@@NeilLewis77 I would argue it was the formation that put Trippier in that position which meant we couldn't progress up the pitch properly, the left was completely lacking in any meaningful attacks. I don't think he made a forward pass. A change of formation and personnel (Gordon is quite good defensively for a winger) might just fix that and mean we can keep the pressure on.

Kane was told to not drop back into midfield, it didn't work though because the other players couldn't manage to get a good ball to him. In the last World Cup quite a few goals came from Kane assists where he dropped deeper. His touches in the second half were just from balls hoofed up to him, with two defenders on his back and no other players in support. I agree though Foden and maybe Kane should have been subbed, Southgate doesn't really do subs though.

​@@user-nn6fh7mm7q yes I agree that some of our players are definitely overrated! Rice is a good player but doesn't know how to control MF. Bellingham's a fantastic athlete and is very good at carrying the ball but also doesn't know how to control a MF. Our most talented player(Foden) couldn't get a look in cause the MFs only look to play balls out to the right. A world class MF sees the whole pitch and creates passing angles all round the pitch (Gundagun). Unfortunately we dont have that currently. I hope Wharton and Kobbie continue their progression and maybe they'll both turn into top class MFs. Both of them are showing class in glimpses at such a young age
