Shame JYves had to stop, but right decision if he couldnt move properly. Pretty close fight to me, but I thought JYves could more or less answer anything Kaman threw. Personally I prefer the no leg kick rule, I think the matches are more interesting- my taste thats all. I think Kamans style of kicking is a product of the muay thai leg kick, which are devastating on the legs of course, but dont transfer well to targets above the thigh. In that respect Kaman had a disadvantage. JYves defended or 'rode' all the kicks on him well. Both had good boxing skills but JYves I think had more accuracy and a tighter boxing defense. Both great fighters, much respect.

couldnt agree more with your taste, too bad apparently Iceman had cycling incident prior to the fight

Sadly, JIT was too old and had too much baggage from past battles to be his best against the much-younger, bigger and physically stronger Kaman. His stand-up and trading-blows style of fighting was not effective against Kaman, who would later fall to Alexio and other more powerful fighters.

Theriault was untouchable for years (80-86) as the World middle weight champ, then he moved up.
@Sifu628 Жыл бұрын
It was not so much that JIT was untouchable as no one could hurt him or more precisely to win by trading blows with him. He didn’t back away from the most ferocious fighters of his time but stood his ground to go toe to toe with the best of them. He was revered as a fighter’s fighter!

I love Theriault and I've trained with him a few times, but I really dislike this style of kickboxing. No low kicks, rarely throws round kicks, mostly ineffective front kicks to set up his punches. He could have done way better if he used the Dutch style of kickboxing. Than again this was also when he was maybe 38-39 considering he was fighting in the 70's.
@kaguth8 жыл бұрын
+jukkasc2 I started out in this style of kickboxing but I have to admit, Muay Thai or K1 style is much more exciting to watch. I disagree that the front kicks are ineffective . If you really know how to use the ball of the foot (Karate, Tae Kwon Do Style) you can definitely hurt people with it. See Anderson Silva vs Vitor Belfor in MMA.This style emphasizes boxing much more than Muay Thai which is also interesting. It's basically boxing with some kicking.
@SchockBlocked8 жыл бұрын
kaguth front kicks are effective, I'm just saying the one's that he throws are ineffective, or at least could be more effective.
@DoubleRR446 жыл бұрын
I disagree the reason we watch Kickboxing is to see kicks. The problem with Muy Thai is kicking the opponents legs weakens their ability to throw kicks so you end up with less kicks thrown. And nothing is more dynamic to watch then kicks Landed above the opponents waste. In a real fight a leg kick is useless

@@DoubleRR44 in a real fight leg kicks are useless? Let me kick you in your thigh right on that nerve bundle two or three times with my full power kick and your leg will be numb bruh. LOL OH, that is if I don't take you down and destroy you in grappling.

@stephane76075 жыл бұрын

I like J-Y T and know him personally, but when I compare the skills and stamina of these top world kickboxers and top world boxers, like Oscar de la Hoya so it is not even comparable. These guys would be knocked out in the first round. That is why it is hundred times harder to reach the top in boxing than in kick-boxing. Not too much competition in KB. Can you imagine what Tyson would do to these two guys in the ring? And they could fight him both at the same time.

Low kicks in Kickboxing is boring and useless to watch as it prevents the opponent from kicking which is what we want to see maximum kicks above the waste not a kick to a leg that is boring to watch.

@@johnburns2940 That's what happens to all great fighters in this most-brutal of sports. I have trained rigorously with reigning champions from Jeff Smith, Rodney Baptise, Mike Coles, Jerry Rhome, Gordon Franks and others. Without a single exception, they all had seen their physical skills and ability to recover from blows and injuries decline with age. Great fighters know this truth and work like hell to maximize their gains and achievements within the very-limited time of their absolute peak. Once gone, no one can get it back!
