I decided to do a sober November. I am surprised that it's not as hard as a I thought - so far. However where I used to smoke cigarettes only when I drank, I am now smoking more than before. Next step is quitting the butts.

It's almost like you are on a natural high when you are sober and you beat an addiction.

Two things I did that felt like helped: before you quit try going to bars and just not drinking. Have a coke and chill. Sure, have a drink when you get home, and you dont have to do that every time.... But try it out. Once you realize that the barflys are more uncomfortable with you not drinking than you are it makes it easier to go into difficult places later on. Secondly, gingerale helped get me over the hump of having something in a glass or a bottle in social situations. And often other people dont notice that it isnt alcohol.

methadone, alcohol, marijuana and cigarettes. when i quit i thought i was gonna die, massive migraines eye aches stomach pains., suicidal thoughts. anger depression and the list keeps going on., that lasted 3 months of agony. i never in my life had migraines so to have it for literally 2 months straight i thought i had a brain tumor. i stuck it through, sleeping 2 hrs. if I was lucky a day ,some days no sleep and constant pains. now my mind is back my memory is back and my kindness and compassion is back. i wish you all goodluck in your endeavors. and whatever the doc tells you ,do not take methadone.

smoked pack a day of cigs, 1 ounce in 2 days and 120mgs of methadone for 3 years. before that heroin without the methadone. for 6 months i dropped 10mgs every week and slowed down on the cigarettes.10mg i stropped the methadone and gave into the withdrawals of a nightmare. hope this helps someone out there. even if its one person im happy to share my honesty

Never as hard as you think it will be. If you’re a heavy drinker, its best to involve a doctor. The feeling of not HAVING to drink every day, is amazing.

ZOOM meetings have opened a new world of recovery. One can find secular, traditional and other types of AA meetings world-wide, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The first step is the core to continuous sobriety combined with the polar opposite of addiction --- connection with another addict.

@@msg2743 We just started f2f meetings here in two of our venues (we have three LOL) about a month (?) ago. We are keeping our secular ZOOM meetings open though since we can serve so many alikes stranded in the midst of states that only have regular AA. We have members on each continent now. SO enlightening.

No thanks. I rather stay sober most of my time and indulge on occasions in appropriate social events. It doesn't need to be a yes or no, always about balance.
@Nothing_Israel
@Nothing_Israel 2 жыл бұрын
For some people it absolutely needs to be a yes or no. Alcohol has a different impact on different people and some people only half two switches - either they cut alcohol out for themselves entirely or they drink until they are blacked out. Alcoholism is a disease and it is good to be mindful of that when comparing your own ability to moderate with that of someone who has more difficulty doing so.
@TheMidnightNarwhal
@TheMidnightNarwhal 2 жыл бұрын
@@Nothing_Israel I understand but if alchool is always taken in moderation you can't get to that point. That's why I'm saying it's a balance of all things.
@sechay9328
@sechay9328 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheMidnightNarwhal Sadly that just isn't the way it works for everybody. Addicts can understand moderation, even seek it, but that doesn't mean it is within their grasp. Hence, for some, it does have to become a yes or no.
@patreekotime4578
@patreekotime4578 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheMidnightNarwhal it works great until it doesnt. And the problem with addiction is that an addict can no longer judge what moderation even is. I thought I was only having "two beers" after work but they were two 22oz high gravity beers so thats actually a six pack. And to many, a 6 pack a day would sound like moderation. And even if someone does really manage with moderation, there are always going to be events in life that act as triggers and become excuses to binge.

if you die today will you go to heaven? Have you ever lied, stolen, hated, used God's name as a curse word (O-M-G)? According to God's law, you're guilty, your headed for hell, ignorance will not be an excuse... But wait, God loves you, he made a way out for you, God's son Jesus died paying for your sin. God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him will not die but have everlasting life. John 3:16 Love Y'all
