This is an animated 3D CAD rendering of the new powered front caster design for my R2-D2 replica. The main components include an Amplow E-150 motor with a 3" diameter built into a 5" pneumatic wheel assembly. The wheel is supported on one end by a 3" I.D. by 3.5" O.D. aircraft bearing, and on the other by a 8mm scooter bearing mounted outboard of a 4:1 planetary gear reduction. The caster is steered by a servomotor mounted in the ankle.
