This is an interesting story from an interesting man. When Andre the Giant wrestled in the Welland Arena, he would have an apartment across the street rented for him so he didn't have to travel very far. I had a job painting that apartment, and everyone, from neighbours to arena employees, loved that man. He brought much more than just his giant self.

His life was one of discomfort. Jake the Snake Roberts said he got into the business as a referee and one of his responsibilities was to rent a van and drive Andre to the next venue. I'm 6'3", so I know how uncomfortable planes and buses can be for someone taller/bigger, but I can't imagine how it must have been for poor Andre. Btw, Jake said that before they drove to the next match, Andre made him stop at a liquor store and buy two cases of beer, which he drank over the course of an 80-mile trip. Jake said what impressed him so much was not how much Andre could drink, but that he didn't have to piss even once during the trip.

He also drank because bars were one of the few places that were comfortable for him. He couldn't go shopping (though he loved QVC, believe it or not). At one point, he told a buddy that he wanted to go see a Broadway play or musical, but refused to let the friend get them tickets because he said his presence would distract from the performances onstage.

Not exactly the nicest Andre story. As far as alcohol based ones go, I prefer the one where he couldn't make it back to his room at a rather nice hotel and passed out in the middle of the lobby. Unable to move him employees simply surrounded him with a velvet rope and just let him sleep it off.

Is a good enough director to have been trusted to direct 20 multimillion dollar films. Nice guy. Nice family. Is a grandfather. Has had a long and successful career acting, writing, directing, and producing. Could retire if he wanted to but enjoys the work. Made his way first as a character actor in television, writer, director, then producer. No scandals other than pissing off right wing snowflakes.

Why all the hate on for Rob Reiner?
@smcmary1757
@smcmary1757 5 жыл бұрын
My guess would be it's because of his politics. . He has been a critic of Trump since the beginning and some people don't like that. However, rather than coming out and just saying that, they attack him personally or belittle his achievements. I mean, he has even joked that if he ever won an Oscar the headline would read 'Meathead wins Academy Award" so obviously the partisan digs don't really have that much effect on him. Just like most of what these people say in general to people they don't agree with. Like it or not, the man has been a part of many zeitgeist moments in entertainment history, as an actor and a director, and they haven't. I suspect they probably even like some of his work (come on, who hates the Princess Bride?) but they're too petty to acknowledge it.

I don't think much about the alcohol content. how many people do you know who can drink 30 bottles of anything in one day? he must have been peeing for hours... mike and gloria = bill and hillary :-( Archie would be so proud....

If you search a story about Andre, from former wrestler,Jake The Snake Roberts here on youtube,Jake tells a story of Andre drinking 48 beers and not peeing once.

What a stupid story. It ended in some reality Rob doesn't know what he does for a living!

Why? Because it didn't end with the story-teller nearly waxing poetic by telling the audience some sappy. largely disingenuous, anecdote that pretends to illustrate just how incredibly wonderful a human being was good ol' Andre ?
