Arnold is 188 cm, which would be precisely 6 feet and 2 inches. I think Arnold was pretty correct in comparing himself to Wilt and Andre, being 216 and 224 cm tall respectively, with the proportions between himself and Danny DeVito, who's 144 cm tall. Basically it's 40 cm, give or take, between Wilt/Andre, and down to Arnold, and then another 40 cm down to Danny DeVito. Those photos of Arnold together with Wilt and Andre are just amazing.

Same here. It was the only movie of his where I NEVER felt he was acting and all the lines, action and plot were right up his alley. Great effects for the time and awesome soundtrack by Alan Silvestri.

He was awesome. Also, all too often, people told him "I wish I was like you. I'd be so tough and strong, no one could hurt me". But André insisted that they had it all backwards. 😕 And for a great many reasons.

In an interview Andre said that was why loved working on The Princess Bride. Yes, he was still larger than anyone round him but, being actors, they simply accepted him for who he was and went about doing their job. There was likely an initial reaction from everyone, how could there not be, but he wasn't faced with all the bru-hah-hah that must come with being his size all day, every day. To have been treated like everyone else for that time makes it easy to understand why he would have enjoyed it so very much.

I listened to a lex luger story about him traveling through the airport and he had a similar experience with Andre. Andre just picked him up and sat him in the cart next to him like he was nothing. Lex said he weighed like 285 or something like that.

Gorilla Monsoon said Andre could lift 250 lb guys like a normal man picking up a trench coat. It’s believable…his size and weight, he’s going to have strength, plus continuous natural HGH. His hands and wrists were the size of gorilla.

Yes, giant strength, but then sadly, his condition later on meant that same strength was taken away as his joint pain became too much.

Peter Mayhew suffered the joint pain issue as well. 😕 It goes to show that although the idea of "being a gigantic man" (or dragon!) sounds wonderful, there are disadvantages which remain obscured and partially invisible until or unless you actually experience what being gigantic truly entails.

Jingle All The Way?

I read the remake of The Running Man won't really be a remake. The intent is to make a film which actually follows the book. I absolutely love both the Arnold film and the Stephen King / Richard Bachman book, but they are almost nothing alike.

Most of the stories, dare I say all, I hear him tell about himself, is how he is being worked over or put into place by someone else. Both him and Sly are giant action stars but in most of their stories, someone is getting the best of them.

He has a bunch of animals at his home. He loves feeding them these special animal type cookies in the morning. It is hilarious how he world famous mega-star, former governor of the state of California gets mobbed by animals and he hands out a dozen cookies.

He definitely seems like he's stayed down-to-earth. Every time somebody mentions his success on camera, he points out how he wouldn't have gotten anywhere without the support of all kinds of people in his life. I also like how the fitness advice he gives is not about getting huge muscles but about keeping going and doing what you can, regardless of how much that is.

@@Motorsheep He is actually one of the realest people you will ever see. There is no reason he should have been the governor of California, like Bill Burr said, he can't even pronounce the name of the state right, but he is the most charismatic, engaging, personable people out there and I don't know how he does it but he can turn on the charm like Niagra falls. He just seems to be a good human being, and despite his faults and indiscretions, he will step right up to the plate and own everything, and I just think that type of honesty and transparency is attractive in the era of 'scorched earth lying' we have become so accustomed to.

Heck yeah guys! And thank you for the backup! And how is it that no one in the video itself mentioned it!? Sure The Running Man is a fun, weird atypical action/sci-fi movie, but what does it really have on Total Recall? That movie finessed every inch of its celluloid existence! And Paul Verhoven as much as I also really love Robocop never made an action film better than Total Recall. I'm sure for some that's a hot button topic, but think about how much more consistently paced Total Recall is and how much more firepower and velocity it gains and throws at your every sense. The thunderous rarely still music score from Jerry Goldsmith certainly gave an already massive weighted film an even bigger boost into cinema history. So yeah for Robocop to take second place to Total Recall is hardly an insult in my book. It's still also a great and timeless film! Partly what holds it back competing with Total Recall is that it's got a lot of dramatic weight holding it back and slowing it down due to the tragedy of the main character and his family being stripped away from. I hardly hold that against the movie. It was definitely the right choice for the film, but that means that much more of the time that could be spent on action is taken up by that. Honestly one more fun action scene (even if it was short one) showing off his abilities would've been nice. But then again it could've worked against it. It's hard to say for sure without seeing such a scene and within the context of the film itself as far as pacing and other things are concerned. Anyway I should go and watch them both again. I've been on an 80s kick lately.

I was in my early teens, saw Total Recall in the theater for back to back showings! It was great!

It's been said by a quite a few people in the wrestling business that Andre was only scared of 2 people, Harley Race and Haku (Meng, King Tonga), who are both considered to be two of the toughest legit wrestlers in the business. The 3 of them were also very good friends.

@@Ifoughtpiranhas Randy Savage was afraid of Andre because he was one of the few people Andre did not like and Andre beat the crap out of him in the ring, when they faced each other. Savage was small by wrestling standards so there was really nothing he could do about it.

Apparently, he messed with Hulk Hogan's head leading into Wrestlemania III. Hulk was concerned whether Andre would "do the job," because even with as bad a shape as Andre was in, there was no way Hulk could beat him legitimately.

No one could slam Andre without his blessing and ‘help’.

Exact opposite of Dwayne Johnson, he was in so many awful movies. But Arnold has so many classics.

One of Arnold's best stories was when James Cameron chewed the SHEET out of him on the set of "True Lies". Tom Arnold asked him how he put up with it; "why didn't you yell back?" "Because, Tom... he's 100% right. I was late. I messed up. I disrespected more than just him by being late, I put the entire cast & crew behind schedule. It's my fault." Must give us pause.

It's definitely the Arnold film I re-watch the most ... well, that and the first Conan. Loved how Jesse Ventura inserted a bit of his WWF persona. 😄 Since Mick Fleetwood mentions his music being banned, I cannot help but wonder if he's playing himself. And Paula Abdul was twenty-four or twenty-five when she choreographed those dance scenes. Heck, Dweezil Zappa was only seventeen. "Don't touch that dial!"

Yeah. I watched it last week. It felt really rough. I loved every moment. Sub zero! Now plain zero!

The MF is unique, his film list is phenomenal, probably once in every 50+ years. He shouldn't work as a movie star, but hot damn, he does!

I think total recall has similar feels.

i waited on arnold's table in 2010 when he was the guvernator. i stood next to him and i don't think he was any taller than 5' 10, but he had a big, barrel chest and his arm bones ( radius and ulna ) were bigger than i had ever seen on anyone. having that big bone structure is what enabled him to build the massive musculature. his chief of staff was a bltch and no one was allowed to talk to him, so if i was going to have any fun with him, i had to get sneaky. when he asked me for something, i responded in german that i'd be back. i know -- very corny, but what're ya gonna do ?

I saw him at the Arnold Classic in 2000, which would have made him fifty-three, and I would have pegged him at around 5'10", maybe 5'11" (I'm 5'8", and he didn't exactly tower over me). Sure, we do lose some with age, though I wonder if he really was 6'2" when they filmed Pumping Iron in 1975. Seeing him side-by-side with Lou Ferrigno, I find it hard to believe Arnold was only three inches shorter, as Lou was billed as 6'5".

I wouldn't put Commando over nearly flawless Total Recall, but it is a lot of fun. They've both got a lot rewatch ability to them. Ironically those are about the only two top shelf Arnie films that none of them mentioned in the video. I think that Red Heat is kinda an underrated gem. Too bad it never pops up on streaming services, I may have to just buy a copy of it.

Heck yeah on Total Recall! Thanks for the backup : ) Yeah I was a bit bummed he or none of the others mentioned it. I think it was only top shelf film of his they didn't mention. For me it all comes together so perfectly in that film (writing, directing, editing, acting and music) and that it rolls at least elements of nearly every movie genre into one so flawlessly. I mean on that merit alone you could rank it as one of his best. But throw in that it's still an invigorating blast to rewatch all these years later just as it was when I saw it in theaters--That's a gift of a film! So few do that for me.

I agree with your first sentence for sure, but not so sure about the rest. It's hard to say without having such an alternative version to watch. I gotta say if given the chance and only one version could exist, it'd be pretty damn hard to consider sacrificing the version we have. What if it had ended up like the way weaker sequel? I mean it's ok to watch once in a while, but it's got nothing on the original. They really needed John Milius again and better script of course. Grace Jones was probably the best thing about that sequel. Malick was a pretty great sidekick though too.

Hmm, I was thinking about this one, but can't say much as it's been too long since I've seen it. Another fairly obscure and underrated one I think I like better is Red Heat (1988). But perhaps both are due for rediscovery : ) My top pick of his is easily Total Recall, though there are several that are trailing behind by seemingly fractions of a second to be his best film. My other top picks: Conan The Barbarian Predator ''was ok'' (haha, some guy in another comment said that. That's the first I've ever heard it anyone rate it as ''ok''. Wilt maybe had an inch or so over Andre but look at them - Andre for sure 7 foot at that point, and definitively much more massive. Tall as a giant, built like a buff dwarf. Probably one of the strongest people ever, despite being known to never hit the gym.

They billed him as 7’4. he was more like 7’2 in boots in his prime. There’s an old black and white vid when he’s younger and said he’s 7’1.

He worked on a Farm growing up. That's a great way to build natural strength.
