Thanks for taking the time to go through the sharpening process for all of the main tools used the most. I really do enjoy your video's. It's a nice and easy laid back approach to turning that comes through from your video's. Please don"t stop making the video's you take the time to share what you have learned and it is greatly appreciated. When i seen your share of piece's that got messed up ,I stop hiding mine. There are still a few pieces up in the rafters stuck there they remind me about safety. I have read also on here that your older video's were great. It would have been nice to have seen them. This is the very first time i have commented on any video on youtube, So you helped me there to. And again please keep the video's coming there enjoyable and you always come away with helpful information from them. Thanks.

Super video Robbie. I think it was brilliant that you showed that you don't need to spend a fortune on jigs and tools to solve all the sharpening problems when you begin turning. You've convinced me to get a grinder with wheels because I'm still having problems getting swept-back grinds on gouges using the Sorby Pro Edge. I'll be copying your set-up. Best Wishes, Brendan.

Such a humble man and excellent instruction Robbiethewoodturner Like many here I'm new to the wood Turning, and this has been very helpful indeed. Will be making up a Jig today as I wait for my tools and grinder to arrive. Very hard living in the boonies in Western Australia, as I have to either drive 700+kms or pay huge $$ for postage. Collected my Woodfast Midi Lathe last week, but because the shop had a wood show the week before, I couln't pick up the tools I wanted so its a waiting game for me. Love all your videos mate :)

Hey Robbie, im looking for a little advice, im about to buy my first lathe and set of tools and i'm looking at which tools to get. I have done a little turning before, however im still very much a beginner. Are carbide tools worth the money? What are the main advantages/disadvantages with them? Do they still need to be fully sharpened occasionally or do i have to get new tips? Can i get away with just using a diamond sharpening card (as featured on your channel)? Or am I better off starting with a more traditional set and trying carbide tools once i have some more experience? Thanks Lee

Very helpful video. I've not done any wood turning since secondary school many years ago. I got a lathe at Christmas and have been tipping away since. Im guessing by the accent you are in Dublin, I was just wondering where you got the grinding wheels? I got a cheap 6" bench grinder but the wheels with it are very rough and I dont want to damage my chisels. Planning on making the home made Jig for the fingernail grind as they are too expensive to buy when they can be made quite easily. Also enjoying your other videos too. Planning on trying the multi axis cup when I get time.
