5 reasons to change your knee flex:
1. To turn the hips (to turn)
2. To turn the hips on a tilted angle
3. To facilitate inward hand path
4. To reduce sway
5. To relieve stress on the body
When it come to the golf swing, most discussion involves TURNING the body back and through to create your ideal swing, however, this description is inaccurate and incomplete.
The tilting motion that happens in the backswing, downswing, and follow-through is far less talked about, but far more important if you want to build a consistent swing. To complete a functional golf swing, golfers must turn on a TILTED angle, and to TILT correctly involves multiple body parts - especially the KNEES!

Another great video Rob. Remember your vid on uphill lies? Well this summer I ended up on a steep uphill lie about 3 ft past a sand trap. My partner laughs & tells me good luck with that lie. So I set up like you said for that lie & think to just swing with a nice tempo. I hit the ball flush & then my club comes to a sudden stop in the side of the mound. The ball flies stright & way up & lands softly on the green. My partner who was looking for his ball comes over & says where is your ball & I point at the green. He looks at me like c'mon guy! To top it all off I go up & sink the 25 ft putt for a par5. Best seven iron I ever hit in my life(I'm 78)! Thanks Rob, you rock!

I'm on this video because i've realised how important this is after years of focusing on the takeaway and trying not to sway and then being static and lifting out of my posture to be able to make a full turn. This should be taught to all beginners. A lot other stuff falls in to place if you allow yourself to make a correct body turn.

So informative Rob. Thank you! When I first started S&T I was watching another you tube instructor and following his advice I started putting my left shoulder down so far that my head had to follow. In your video I can see why things didn’t work for me. My shaft was pointing completely at the ball if not even a bit inside with the across the shoulder drill. Had all sorts of problems with the downswing. I’m going to start again from the beginning. You certainly know your stuff and you explain everything beautifully. 😊

Peter here, Rob. Firstly, your instruction on S&T is so thorough, and always makes complete sense. Haven’t heard you fluff a line yet (LOL). Since adopting it, I have had real, measurable success with all clubs, but I want to touch on the mental side for me. Weight forward, at setup, just feels so comfortable, natural and balanced. I never feel as though I will sway off the ball on the backswing. Additionally, I can keep my lead arm gun-barrel straight going back and in, without that feeling of my weight shifting to where it shouldn’t be. Couldn’t really do that with the old standard setup. It’s so much easier with weight forward. This is the single-most important factor for me and has instilled confidence in my ball striking. Greetings from Down-Under.

Thanks Rob, after going through a couple of knee replacements I found that I was becoming motionless from the waist down for really no reason at all ! Highlighting the importance of the knee flex really helped me to refocus its importance. One question I have, I have dropped my right foot back and as long a I keep my weight on my left side, I am able to get a better turn and hit the ball more solidly. However, I was wondering if there are any drawbacks to dropping the right foot back or any adjustments I should be sure and make if i want to make this stance change permanent? Thanks for all your great instruction.

Hi Rob, thank you in advance for all the videos on stack and tilt that I’ve watched. Must admit that my iron ball striking is phenomenal after adapting the stack and tilt swing. Almost every shots were solid and crispy and followed by ‘clean professional’ divots, which I’ve never experienced before on conventional technique. I am now 73 years old and now using R-flex 60gm graphite shaft iron that I feel forgiving and friendly. I’ve tried R-flex steel shaft, the result was surprisingly amazing and perhaps gaining further distant. What are your views perhaps experience or feedback from other golfers using stiff steel shaft similar to my current circumstance.

Good Morning Rob, this video its very inlightning. I have one question about the kneeflex of the left knee. When I flex my left knee it gets to the inside or to the right. My golfmate always reminds me that I am doing the Shaking Steven's. Do you see a failure here when the knee gets to the inside. You can see this a little bit at 8:13 in your move. To bring my knee to the inside helps me turning more. Appreciate your answer. Good job! Greetings from Germany, Andreas

@williamreichert4798
@williamreichert4798 Жыл бұрын
When I do this, it feels that I do not feel an increase. in pressure in the trail foot( as often taught) but rather feel a slight increase in pressure in the forward foot,with slight increase in pressure toward the ball of the lead foot. So there is no "weight shift" in the backswing. Also, since the pressure is already in the forward foot at the end of the backswing, there is no need to make an hip slide forward in the transition. The transition in the downswing is propelled by the left knee straightening rather than the right foot pressing . Does that make sense?

Rob, can you comment some on your (left) lead leg in regards to opening your left hip in the downswing. I've been following your past instruction for over a year and have seen a very nice improvement (I'm a senior golfer). I've had issues with opening of my left hip (actively trying to rotate it) in the downswing leading to mishits and/or pulling the ball left. It appears in watching your video, the rotation mirrors your back swing in regards to flexion/extension of your knee rather than actively opening of the hip. Your left knee flexes towards the ball then then it the downswing you extend your left knee and with your weight shift and right knee flexing and driving forward you rotate around a "locked" left hip. Is that what I am seeing? Thank you.

I would love to hear an answer from you on this question; I am a right handed golfer and I also have a total knee replacement in my right leg. Good video but a bit misleading in your wording. You stated several times to straighten the right (back) knee. While you certainly straighten it, you never mentioned that you shouldn't fully straighten the back leg because doing so brings a whole host of issues. This is a very important part that should have been addressed in this issue.
