I used to think the prices on your saws were a bit on the high side but now I See they are not. The amount of work, craftsmanship and detail you put into your saws and Marking gages and everything else you produce is of very high-quality. On a sidenote what you’re doing with PHP is very admirable and I thank you for that.

I have the pleasure of owning one of your dovetail saws with the black speckled resin tote (and also the matching marking gauge) . Both tools are as beautiful to look at as they are to use (even with the resin), they truly are super high quality made tools. On a side note, watching this video answered a question that I often wondered about. On my saw, the brass pins that go through the back and blade have a light pink hue to them, I could never figure out why until now... the loctite! It doesn't bother me in the slightest, just one of those "unexplainable" things that barely caught my eye. I can finally sleep now.

@joemedeiros8433
@joemedeiros8433 9 ай бұрын
@@Thewoolywoodshop I tried using denatured alcohol once but it didn't work. It's possible that the brass pins absorbed/wicked the Loctite and caused permanent staining. As I said in my previous post, it doesn't bother me personally. I can see how it might annoy others though, considering the price of the saw. I paid $350 CAD +tax.

A master craftsman and artist. I can't think of a better endorsement for the saws than you making them personally. You should sign them as well. Just a thought. I'm a recent subscriber so I've done some binge-watching to catch up. There aren't a lot of guys who come across as comfortable as you do in your videos. Your running commentary is very conversational which makes it easy to listen to. There are other tubers out there who have had their channels for years but still come across like they're reading a script and with your videos, there's none of that. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with us.

Well, that explains the cost of hand crafted saws. I guess I didn’t realize how much work went into them. As always, excellent attention to detail, and great teaching skills, Rob. Suggestion for your next “tool review”: Saws. Put yours up against a vintage disston fresh from eBay (no modification, just see what you get), a veritas, and a LN. Always enjoy the objectivity you bring to us even though you have your own personal biases. It would be a good way to explain why your saws have your own preferred qualities (folded/cut back, tooth geometry, handle grip, finish, etc.) Also, it might bring in a bit of sales (this video certainly will sell a few on its own).

Hey Rob, John Akers here from Kennewick Wa. Could you please do a video, or add to a upcoming video, on how to use the Shawn Shim Dovetail Offset Tool. I am sure it is fairly self explanatory but it would be nice to see you show how it is intended to be used. Love your videos and your teaching methods are excellent. I have purchased several of your custom made tools and my skills have improved dramatically from their use and your ability to give good instruction on their proper use. I struggled for some time with proper sharpening of chisels and hand plane blades until I started watching your videos. I also always wanted to do hand cut dovetails but avoided them or used a jig (leigh dovetail jig) until I watched and followed your instruction. Now I look for opportunities to use hand cut dovetails. Thank you.

I'd love to know that strain so I can try and source some of that myself. Beautiful wood and beautiful work with the saw in general.

Beautiful Saw. I hate my hand being so close to the router bit also. I use a twin screw wood clamp to keep my hands away and if it hits a wood clamp, no problem.

Just got my saw a couple days ago! It's a fantastic saw haven't been able to cut a joint with it yet, but did some test cuts and was quite impressed. Is it possible to purchase a wood handle for it? Otherwise I'll have to make my own. I like the composite handle but I love pretty wood much more.

This is a great video! I would like to try my luck at making a saw and I was wondering what kind of of slot cutter do you use to cut the brass back, and also what type of tolerance is okay? My saw plate thickness will depend on the best condition material I can source from an old handsaw. I already have the brass stock, but no slot. Thanks very much for you time.

Same excellent quality. I bought my Cosman saw (dove tail) back in 2016, I think. To all who complain about the price, as did I, then I KNOW you actually haven't used one. I tried 3 other premium saws prior. Sold 2 gave one away after getting Rob's saw. I have since bought 3 more. Let me tell you the joinery cross cut saw is something magic. Never have I seen such a finish on a saw cut, hand, machine or other wise. Speaking of crying, think of the money I could have saved buying Cosman saws first and not the others. Cry once if you must.

I met you at the Woodstock wood show in Ontario a few years ago and tried one of your dovetail saws. Truly beautiful and I can’t wait to get one when they are available again. How long does it actually take you to make one though Rob?

Beautiful saw and an excellent video. You're easily the best teacher of woodworking on KZfaq. I was unaware that cocobolo dust was toxic. Do you think it is safe to make spoons from that species? I have a small piece that I wanted to try to carve. I appreciate your advice.

Well the dust is toxic once made and sealed I think the wood would be OK...still to be safe I would try another species

Where do you get your blade to cut the slot for the blade in the handle? I’m looking to refresh a few of my old saws and maybe make one or two and this would help quite a bit.

I'd love to have one encased in glass and mounted on the wall given its beauty, but that would defeat the purpose of owning one. These saws are a masterpiece of craftsmanship.

That’s it, I want one! Any possibility of seeing how the blade is manufactured? I searched your site, I don’t see saws with wood handles, only those with composites. Where are the wood handle saws?

Really lovely work, Rob. Love the Lusty & Musty II Jigs…LOL. This makes me all the more appreciative of the 3 Cosman saws I recently purchased. Although with the rosin handles. I wonder if you would ever consider selling a layout plan of your plexi templates for those of us tempted to make our own handles? Regardless, cheers on the great video.
