Flying Rancid M00n Fish yeah, Not every monologue has to be treated like it's a speech from some wise sage. That's why I'm mixed on Nolan when he writes dialogue; nearly every line has to be this big speech that no one in really life would say.

@@mediakira6621 Too true. The Moments between the two characters in this film feel so realistic. Feelings of pent up frustration and anger would provoke long scoldings we get from each of the characters when they boil over, the other would either respond by being taken aback and be like "lol calm down your having a moment" or get angry back and then they would rant over each other, like they do in other parts of the film.

Only when, he, crowned in cockle shells, with slithering tentacled tail, and steaming beard, takes up his fell, be-finnèd arm, his coral-tined trident screeches banshee-like in the tempest, and plunges right through your gullet, bursting ye, a bulging bladder no more, but a blasted bloody film now, a nothing for the Harpies, and the souls of dead sailors to peck and claw and feed upon, only to be lapped up and swallowed by the infinite waters of the dread emperor himself. Real talk. I still don't know if he'll be a good fit for Batman, but only because he'll be too good for the role. The DC films are scripted like ass and it would be so tragic to see Pattenson's talent wasted on a garbage script for a disposable super hero role that will get rebooted in 3 to 5 years.

@Agent P Phenomenal? The Apes trilogy was average at best. It was good, sure, but not exactly Lighthouse class. I think his Batman films will be solid 3/5s. But imagine if he cast Dafoe as Joker? If anyone's gonna try that role after Phoenix, it HAS to be Dafoe, and to see those two go one on one again would be fucking brilliant.

The moment when you realize that Pattinson's changing, shifting accent isn't poor acting, but a very clever choice by the actor. You can tell he (the character, Winslow) is trying to disguise his original accent (the more new yorker sounding one) with the more Welsh sounding one he has for most of the film. Whenever he gets angry with dafoe you can tell his fake accent slips. He's trying to disguise his true identity.

It would be a nice story to use an actual old 1930s cameras but even that wouldn't be fitting to the time frame of the 1890s, so it's just isn't necessary. How this hell is no one talking about his accent changing here out of no where. That's a pretty big turning point in this movie. He's such an unreliable POV character that you can't even trust how he speaks. You have no idea whats real or not in this movie. I think after he killed the seagull is when everything really changes.

Notice the change in Winslow’s accent, I believe over the course of the movie it changes intentionally to show how much he’s mirroring Tom, and even at the end quotes him. I believe Winslow doesn’t even know who he is and adapts his personality to those he interacts with as well as the people he kills.
@stilllife321

I think so too! Some notice and criticize how Pattinson did different accents in some parts yet with how the story unfold it make sense (since he was pretended as Winslow), with how good and consistent Pattinson with different accents in his other movie (like Good Time) i believe it was intentional.

This movie feels like it’s straight out of an Edgar Allen Poe story. Strangely enough, this movie takes inspiration from an unfinished poem written by him under the same name. A popular theme in Poe’s stories is gaslighting, making the reader question which perspective is more reliable. In this scene we ask ourselves, is Wake really trying to set up Howard, or is Howard crazy?
