A quick Review, overview of the Robens mountain Bivvy bag , a well designed bivi bag with left hand zip opening , a spacious bivi bag with robust ground sheet, peg out points and mesh covering to keep the bugs out.
I'm looking forward to trying it out on an upcoming wild camp, I'm impressed with it so far.
Thanks for watching!

Mine arrived this afternoon and as some of the comments all ready said, the seams of the upper part are not taped/sealed. The under part at the corners are sealed however. The upper is highly water resistant so they say, I have no reason to doubt them. 20D 380T, not bad stuff, breathable rain gear is also made of this material. Not waterproof. It may have a shower or so but that's it. I can live with that, my wing/tarp will do the trick when the weather gets rough. Question remains: should they have taped those seams, even if it means a higher price? I think they should at least tell on their website that those seams are not sealed. Mountain Laurel Design does this with the Trail Star so there is no excuse. Honesty is the best policy. How can the upper be 'highly water resistant' when the seams are not taped/sealed? Nevertheless, I decided to treat the seams with a seam sealer. It is drying as I type. I finished it of by waxing the seam for a tiny bit is exposed where the side side flap meets the head zipper flap. My usage is with a wing/tarp, (Robens btw) or the occasional wild/stealth and emergency situation where quick set up and break down is needed and there for it must be good enough to handle a shower. Can't wait to take it out.:-) I have notified Robens about this video and this comment and send them the link, the rest is up to them. I think this is only fair to them, for I do think this is a great product with a flaw. What I do like so far is the space inside, the big hood which you can pull over your head in case of rain, the bug net, the zippers (almost) being covered, sturdy ground sheet, the price. Zippers are okay, had worse, a lot. Be aware of morning dew when used in open field. Don't have to tell you why. The stuff sack is a bit to tight to my liking, I consider this as a minor inconvenience. Plenty of stuff sacks in the closet. Anyway, to conclude this lengthy comment, if you don't need a 100% waterproof bivy but like it roomy with a big bug net, don't mind doing a bit of work with the seams (or leave it like it is, it's up to you), easy access, without breaking the bank, this might be the one. Thank you for your time.

Hi mate , sorry for the late reply I seem to be missing a lot of comments lately, totally agree with what you have said in your comment , I'll be using this with a tarp only , I've yet to seal it but will get round to doing that, I agree about the stuff sack too, it is a bit of a squeeze to get it back in , thanks for the nice comment , take care , atb 👍

@@GazianoOutdoors Hi, thanks for your reply and pinning. I did a 130km autumn hike in Denmark with this bivy together with the Robens wing/tarp. A great combination! The bivy is big enough for taking off my clothes inside and put them in my sleeping bag in order to keep them warm. My constructive criticism still stands, however, I am very pleased with it so far. Can't wait to test it out next weekend with my new Carinthia Defence4 sleeping bag, replacing a worn out Snugpak Harrier. Greeings!

Very impressive to be fair, real small and lightweight, both bonuses and something you could fit in your bag even if you are not stopping out overnight but invaluable in an emergency situation. Bit on the pricy side for an OAP like me but you cannot have everything. Great to have the mesh as well, did not that came with it but looked a real decent product. I think it may have been the British Army bivvy bag, which was my first watch of your channel if I remember correctly, channel come a long way since then. Good review Gaz, cheers Alan

Good video mate and a nice first look at the bivvy. Just FYI, mine arrived today and I noticed that the seam that runs along the side of the zip is not sealed with tape on the inside like some of my other bags. Seems decent that Gaz, be Interested to see how you fit with a thick pad in there too... my miltec bivvy is great and has a 3/4 zip, double the weight though, but with a thick pad in there its proper tight so you have to put the bag on tip of a pad/mat. For this bivy, and the same type bivies (no poles, and a remaining hole where rain gets in), I recommend a small tarp. The only bivies I would use without a tarp are OR Advanced Bivy (discontinued) and the OR Alpine AscentShell (wears down too fast). The alternative of an actual bivy tent has past, the newer Ionosphere isn't as good as the old one. The smallest tent I can think of that is almost as stealthy as a bivy is the Jack Wolfskin Gossamer 1 which is based on the Ionosphere, but it's better, that tent I recommend. Using bivies can be dangerous, beware.

Would appreciate your feedback in regards to any issues such as condensation. I'm a bit of a bivvy addict (for the stealth, simplicity, and smaller footprint pitch options) but all of my bivvy's are military and so I don't own a civilian one as yet. An Outdoor Research bivvy looks good but is pricey. I'm a fan of Robens tents as I own a couple so I'll be interested to see how this performs.

Well my bivi arrived this week and I have discovered that the uppermost part of the bivi is not seam sealed. I can't recall if you disclosed this vital information or another but regardless I've set myself the task of seam sealing mine soonest. Maybe this is why Robens haven't committed to stating the topside of the bivi is waterproof. Disappointed by their failure.

Hi mate , I think it was mentioned by a few people in the comments on the video, you'd think all bivi bags would be seam sealed to a high order and if not they should make I very clear that it isn't, you wouldn't want to find out on a wet camp, I'll be looking at sealing mine the best I can before I use it soon hopefully.
