Those films I feel expend a lot of effort visualizing and representing the act of recording, which muddies what can be learned from an actual practical context. Have you seen "where is the friend's house?" I feel like that film uses sound in a really wonderful and evocative way. There was a point where a distant sound in the ambience became the inciting moment of an important plot beat, and I don't think I've felt such dramatic irony and restless anxiety from sound alone in a film
