It’s funny how much RDJ and Marvel’s stories parallel each other. During the 90s and early 2000s, Marvel was in a real bad spot. That’s why X-Men, FF, and Spideys’ film rights are owned by other studios. They had to be sold off. Meanwhile, RDJ was a washed-up alcoholic (and I think drug-addict too, but I could be wrong). He, too, was in a real bad spot. But then Marvel consolidated its resources and used the money it got selling off film rights for its characters to get an Iron Man film off the ground, and they found RDJ and decided, “Yeah, this could work,” and what do you know? It did. Marvel and RDJ really did save each other. The fact that here we are just 10 years later, and the MCU that started with Iron Man is the biggest franchise of all time, and it all started with these two rescuing each other from near-unwinnable situations, I think that is kinda beautiful.

I think it’s more indicative to the fact, That Robert and Tony are virtually the same person. It’s one of the reasons why RDJ was intrigued by the character. Because he saw a lot of himself in Tony Stark when doing his research on the character.
@fokjohnpainkiller
@fokjohnpainkiller 5 жыл бұрын
Are they fused though? Have you read Iron man? Do you really think the character is a happy-go-lucky ball of happiness that RDJ is now irl and has been in the MCU since iron man 3? The post traumatic stress disorder they tried to sell after the events of The Avengers was poorly done to say the least. This more mellow RDJ is far closer to the real stress Stark goes through in the comics as someone with his incredible foresight.

It’s crazy to see how much his attitude towards this character and everything really has changed so much. You can see that he’s considering this to be just another job, hopefully a stepping stone to set him back on the right track and not something that would ruin his career further. It’s hard to believe now how controversial his casting was at the time- most people considered RDJ to be poison to any movie he touched. They had no idea that we would be here now, a massive cinematic universe built around this hero that hardly anyone had known about, creating this generation of moviegoers and putting out some of the most successful films in history. And RDJ is one of the most well loved and respected actors in Hollywood, as well as an inspiration to so many others who are going through the same difficulties he faced. They had no idea.

312vandal Consider more that: • no other actors real life has paralleled Tony Stark quite like RDJ’s • aside from signs of age, that RDJ is almost a spitting image of Tony Stark in all measurable ways • there aren’t many actors that have the insane acting ability and oozes as much natural charisma as Downey • much in the way that Kevin Conroy (voice) is still considered one of, if not the best Batman portrayal period, RDJ is the best Iron Man across any media; Animated or live action. There may be other phenomenal big screen portrayals of the character one day, but Mount Downey is a summit that is now nearly impossible to top • I feel the same about Hemsworth’s Thor and Evans’ Cap and Holland’s Spider-Man and Bosemans portrayal of Black Panther and so on (most of the MCU’s casting was nearly perfect) But I get what you’re saying overall; that with only 1 person to every play Tony Stark on the big screen that he’s tops by default pending another actor to compare him to, but Downey in the eyes of most is beyond compare in this role. Iron Man 3, Thor 2 and Age of Ultron are all evidence of why it’s hard to make quality sequels and that relative duds are inevitable, but for as many problems as the MCU has overall, and there are LOTS of them, nothing like it had even been done before and nothing will likely come close to it ever again in terms of sheer scope Robert Downey Jr led the way and stayed the course and nurtured the MCU from day 1 and he’s carried that role with humility and gratitude for more than a decade. I know I’m drinking the RDJ Kool-Aid pretty hard here, but it’s some damn good Kool-Aid

Everything that starts off grounded always throws that aside.... except for the Nolan Batman movies. Arrow tried hard in the first 2 seasons but that went away. Getting back to Marvel...With IM, Cap, and Hulk it was very science and technology. Then Thor came along and changed all of that. In 2008 if you had said Tony was going to spend time working with a trash panda you would have laughed and said yeah right. Followed by asking who Rocket was since before 2014 the Guardians had no recognition to the general public outside comic book readers.

I was four when Iron Man came out. What the heck. And RDJ sounds so different in this - now it seems like he embraces the Tony Stark persona and talks a lot like the character. And little did he know how much these “B-List” superheroes would do.

Seeing an actor for so long just playing as one character (Tony Stark of course) and then seeing them dress like their real selves, act like themselves, and all that is so F’n trippy! I’m not sure how far off Roberts real personality is from Tony’s but from what I’ve seen in this video, he’s different in some senses.

RDJ is exactly what was needed for Tony Stark come alive on screen. They had similar things happen in their past. Some good, some bad. Thing is, they both needed those dark days. It's their will to survive, their genius and their talents, that got them through it--and makes them shine so bright now. Thank you for allowing us to watch this awe-inspiring metamorphosis over the course of 11 years. We love you 3000, sir.

Marvel leveraged the rights to all of their major properties to get the financing for the Iron Man film. If it had tanked, Marvel would've been done as a studio. Robert & John knew that and worked their asses off to make IM a success.

Some people grew up with Toby as spider-man, Christian Bale as batman, or even Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. I grew up with this guy lol and I'm damn lucky to have been born when i was. I was 11 years old when the first Iron Man came out and he has been my favorite Avenger since. SPOILER ALERT! Don't scroll down then bitch at me for spoiling something for you. There's your warning. Tony actually holding his own against a 4 infinity stone-powered Thanos was my favorite part of the movie. Cap criticized Tony in the first Avengers for being just a guy in a suit. But against Thanos, that 'guy in a suit' put up a damn good fight against the mad titan. I have mad respect for Tony and I can't wait to see him kick more ass in Avengers 4. Dr. Strange decided to save him for a reason after stating earlier in the movie that he wouldn't make such a decision if it came to it. He must have seen that in order for that 1 out of 14 million+ scenarios to happen, Iron Man needed to live, with it even costing his own (Dr. Strange). Tony is going to play a huge role in the next movie I just know it! And I can't wait.

I can go back further than that. I have known of Robert since we were BOTH twinks. You have to check out Weird Science and some of his other earlier films. The man has over 3 dozen movies under his belt, some more memorable than others. I recall being frustrated with his problems, like "Robert1 WTF!? He was always talented and likeable but a real hot mess. I am so happy for him, I can't even describe it.
