I saw Robert Jordan on this book tour and he was looking very sick by that time. It's good seeing him look healthy here, it's sad remembering him tired and getting sick. It's tragic that he died and didn't get to see this to the end and it's sad that we won't get to see what he had in mind after the Wheel of Time. That would have been glorious. Wheel of Time books are the best.

What strikes me most about him is how humble he is. Knowing he had written a fantasy epic that would last and having 600 people at a book store to see him. Today he would have 6000 at that book store. So soft spoken and deliberate with his words, just like his writing.

Such a great, great man. I cannot believe I haven't gotten in to reading the Wheel of Time before now. I've almost finished Eye of the World; such a terrific fantasy novel and I hope the Great Hunt is just as good. R.I.P Robert Jordan

One of the most beautiful, extraordinary minds in our lifetime indeed! I'm not surprised he's a hermit. To access such powerful, deep, and brilliant imagination I would think one's focus would have to be so singularly meditated on without the distraction of the outside world. He channeled his greatness and dared share it with us. Thank you for doing so RJ! xoxo

@Minipolce Actually, at first I thought maybe he was talking about a book he did with Teresa Patterson called "The World of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time" nick-named "The White Book" By many of his fans but I checked and my copy is dated 1997 so that can't be it since this interview was in 2003. I was deeply effected by his death. He will be greatly missed among his fans. It's sad to think of all the other stories he could have wrote that will never be written now. Very sad indeed. gener

No disrespect to the man but he seems sort of awkward, a bit stiff and nervous. Not something I'd expect from a charismatic writer. Just an interesting thing to me.

He toured Vietnam and spent most of his time writing as a hermit, if he was a social butterfly I'd find that far more surprising.

Two tours in Vietnam like my Dad. He also was a self-described introvert. He said that directly to my wife and I at his last ever book signing in his hometown of Charleston, SC... for KOD. He was super nice, funny, a bit shy but immensely intellectual. While he was awkward, he was dang funny and always greeted every single person!
