Dr Robert Lustig has fostered a global discussion of metabolic health and nutrition. He speaks with us abut why you should "speak to the ventriloquist and not the dummy", how "pleasure is not happiness", how "90% of the work is done in 10% of the time" and more. Hosted by Duff Watkins.
00:00 - Intro
09:47 - Lesson 1: Self-soothing is required, since no one else will
11:37 - Lesson 2: Pleasure is not happiness - the more pleasure you seek, the more unhappy you get
17:59 - Lesson 3: Anxiety is excitement about the future; but the future never comes .
23:45 - Lesson 4: You know more than everybody else, so be humbler than everybody else .
32:03 - Lesson 5: Institutions don’t love you back
34:03 - Lesson 6: First-class people hire first-class people; second-class people hire third-class people
35:02 - Lesson 7: Speak to the ventriloquist, not the dummy
36:31 - Lesson 8: 90% of the work gets done in 10% of the time .
37:50 - Lesson 9: Marketing uses information to espouse your point of view; propaganda uses disinformation to espouse your point of view
41:08 - Lesson 10: There is only one dogma, and that is, there is no dogma .

I’m on a slippery slope of “Dr Lustig” addiction! I just found and started with his first video and have his watched over 10 in a few days. I listen while I walk in the morning.. can’t get enough of his dynamic messages. His knowledge is incredible.. My wish is people who hear him will change and start a ground swell of “I’m mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore”. Please, Dr Lustig-KEEP TALKING!!! You are a massive gift to this country. Thank you so much for this humorous and wonderful video. So grateful -changed my life for sure.

I appreciate Dr. Lustig, because not only is he a doctor but he is a teacher and I think that's why his KZfaq video has gotten 13 million hits. He details how the body works and I think the public is eager to learn and hungry for information. Dr. Lustig please keep on teaching.

I'm _so_ fortunate! I do bird photography and at age 65 walking around over rough uneven ground was getting a bit much for me. I weighed 83kg. I started looking for videos that would improve my health and help me lose weight. This morning I weighed in at 76.5kg - the lowest I've been for about ten years. I'm aiming, at 5'3", for 63kg. I've checked sugar, processed food and bread and I've upped my salads and veggies. I make and drink my own Kefir. I take Cod Liver Oil. I make my own skin care cream and, when I _do_ eat bread I make ny own Sourdough. My sleep patterns have improved. My skin looks better. I feel less nervous and calmer, happier. And, the original goal - I am enjoying my Bird Photography more than ever. In short, my quality of life has _vastly_ improved.

English Translation: In fact, this man, Robert Lustig, has a deep understanding, Allow me to mention that we Muslims say (happiness is the expulsion of worry). I'm surprised because it agrees with serotonin. Of course, I heard another explanation from this man, and I even listened for many hours, despite my poor English. Thanks to him, and to the owner of the channel. Reply: مرحبًا بك للغاية، ويسعدنا جدًا أننا تمكنا من تقديم بعض الأفكار لك. أشكركم على تعليقاتكم. Let's not forget that most people can listen to an argument and make up their own minds based on the evidence they see, the persuasiveness of the expert and lived experience. Quite often you get to lived experience which often is negative and realise you ignored the evidence or the expert or both, then try to rectify the problem. The sooner you arrive at the right answer the better for your health. Dr Lustig has great advice, wish I had known about this message 20 years ago, but even 2 years of not poisoning myself anymore is beneficial

What a simple yet brilliant explanation as to why it takes 30 years for major changes in society. It's the new generations of kids who change the societies thinking, because basically people don't change.... they just die or become irrelevant. Can be applied to most major things that have happened... good and bad

I hope Dr. Lustig a humble genius as genius's usually are, reads my thanks to him. Even my sugar head teenage son understands the logic of this long standing problem and as Dr. Lustig said, that's the beginning of change. Our journey has just begun. A little late for me with a fatty liver but let's raise a glass (just one a day!) to my offsprings (and hopefully everyone else's) long health! Fingers crossed and thankyou Robert Lustig 🤞

Hi Superfreak- hope you have reversed the fatty liver and diabetes. Type 2 diabetes can be reversed also, if it is long standing you may not get complete reversal but you can get MUCH better if you cut added sugars and refined carbs. Basically you should eliminate all ultraprocessed food because a recent study showed with every 10% increase in ultraprocessed foods there is a 14,% increase in death

Please pass this question to Dr. Lustig I've asked this question to several experts but none has been able to answer satisfactorily. My grandma (died in 2018 at 100), my mother 75 at present, my three sisters in 50s, my half a dozen aunts in their 70's and 80's.. all of them consume literally tonnes of sugar as if sugar is the only food on earth, yet they are all generally healthy. Besides sugar they also consume processed and ultra processed foods as a daily routine without any hesitation. None of them have any signs of metabolic syndrome or any other major health issues. Why?

@@kevinc9194 I think your reply makes a lot of sense to me. The science of genetics is not very clear to the scientific community and much more has to be known yet. The Golden rule I've understood about diet is that eat what God has made in it's original format, do not eat if something is altered by humans or machines.
