The AMD version ROG CROSSHAIR X670E EXTREME does support PCIe 5.0 for 3 of the onboard NVME slots, a pity that the intel to level board does not support PCIe 5.0 as well for onboard NVME drives.

Thanks for the video! Really enjoyed it! I’m curious what is your recommendation when it comes to the best slot for SSD M.2? I have purchased an ASUS ROG Strix SQ7 Gen4 SSD 1TB and not really sure if I should put it to M.2_1 or use the Hyper M card in Pcie 4.0 for better ventilation? 🤔

I have this board and processor. I put a Corsair 2tb gen 5 hard drive in the expansion card, and my test showed 12;000 read and write speed. Damn good but not 16,000

If you put that expansion card in with other m.2s on it, in slot #2, it will block the airflow for your gpu..

yeah, and i have a 4080 so you cant even install the hyper card in slot 2 which makes the gen 5 option completely useless. They should have just included gen 5 nvme support on the board! I'm taking it back. Screw Asus, that's a deal breaker for me.

It will work great, i have the same cpu and ram as yours execpt i got 4080 and its overkill in most of the games.

Hey bro, thanks for explaining, roughly, what is going 9n with that motherboard. Now I know, that the expansion card can be used, to add 2 additional M.2 hard drives, or 1 m.2 gen 5 hard drive. And, I found out, that the motherboard handle up to 3 m.2 drives, which is pretty nice, imo. Yeah, now I gotta build the thing, and figure-out all the wiring, lol.

Yeah, see, that was unclear to me too, but the 3 board connected drives, PLUS 2 on a PCIE port. I'm liking it, but I can't figure out exactly what to do with those stupid rubber plugs you're supposed to "remove the thermal pad" for .... remove thermal pad... rubber plug? I have never heard of something like this for an M.2 drive - certainly not my old X99 Pro motherboard ... I don't understand what it's supposed to be DOING, so I won't even know if I'm putting it in the right placement - because the pad it tells you remove also has no label in the manual or on the actual pad. It's not clear at all - I can ASSUME, but that's not a great thing to be doing when you're building a new PC from scratch, is it.. It seems stupid to include it, and include vague instruction to it's use, but no actual reason one might, nor is it clear EXACTLY where it is to go. They make all this so frustrating, I assume it's due to "translation issues" ...

I ended up buying the dark hero z790. I can't figure out which setting in the BIOS to make my slot one PCI 5.0 and boot from it. Settings are very convoluted. If I change to PCI 5.0 and allow the NVMe I boot and it says non-bootable drive.

About to maybe buy this MB. But a bit unsure if TPM are on the MB in order to support Windows 11. Heard it something to turn on in bios under another name than TMP. But other than that I'm just a bit confused. Also if all supported CPU that MB take has build in TMP...?!?

Suggest, checking-out the motherboard's QVL, Qualified Vendor's List, for the motherboard, 5hat you want to check. It will list, known, compatible memory, that the motherboard manufacturer, in this case ASIS, has tested. Good question 🔥 I would give you a direct link, but I am on a tiny phone, and my eyes are not as nice, as they used to be. QVL may help🔥

Puget Systems use the Pro Art version on their high end workstations, which is a huge plus, but my concern is that it only has four M.2 slots and eight SATA ports, and if you use all four M.2 slots you lose half of the SATA ports. That's four ports for whatever SSD and mechanical drives you might want to bring from your previous system. I went from the Pro Art to ROG Strix Z790-E, and I am now wondering if I should go large and use the Maximus Hero. The latter has Thunderbolt built in, so you have a ready means of connecting to external storage. I have not yet committed but will have to do so by Monday, so I'd be interested which way you have gone? Not much difference from the Asus 790E Rog Strix mobo($499 USD). Price is a bit too high on the Hero($629 USD) ... but it does have the Animate RGB for those that care ❤

So to confirm it can run M.2 PCIE Gen 5 16 pin on a 4090 graphics card as well as Gen 5 M.2 on an SSD simultaneously? I thought only the AMD boards could do this. But that expansion slot allows this correct? It will be able to read the memory with m.2 gen 5 just as efficiently as an AMD could?

No. The Intel Z790 chipset will halve the PCIe Gen 5 lanes when used with an M.2 SSD. Asus states: When ROG Hyper M.2 card is installed on PCIEX16(G5)_1, PCIEX16(G5)_2 will run x8 only and if ROG Hyper M.2 card is installed on PCIEX16(G5)_2, PCIEX16(G5)_1 will run x8 only.

From my understanding, you can only run 1 m.2 gen 5 hard drive, with the expansion card, or 2 gen 4 m.2 hard drives.
