Seems really versatile defo a good survival knife, loved your earlier review of the Boker plus mini tracker so much that I bought one.

Another great review, really like the thumb ramp..... Just shows that you need to carry a strop when out in the woods for a long time...n Good idea to add the extras to the sheath rather than in a tube handle which compromises the blade integrity 👍👍

Hi Rob, you probably know this already, being such a sharp guy - just heat the rod loop Kydex with a bit of hot air (carefully), insert proper sized ferrorod, and let it cool. Wil fit perfectly after that. Thanks for all your videos, I enjoy them always.

Thankyou as always Rob, yep whole different ball game with damp wood. I still reckon most of us would die if faced with pouring rain,low temps and high winds and only had a knife and ferro rod. Skill and knowledge still outclass pricey equipment. Must tell you, that F1 X in elmax of mine which has had no use and only been stropped chipped near the start of the belly just batoning 6 or 7 splits of not particularly hard wood not one but 2 nicks in the blade. I smashed the shit out of my Mora stainless and robust with no damage, so as far as I am concerned I wasted 230 quid , and yes hate the handle even more now I used it a bit. You are an honest guy and when you show us something we know we get the real deal warts and all. Keep doing your thing, I always learn a little something from you cheers

For my ferro rod striker I took a hacksaw blade and cut it down to about 3 inches long then attached it to my apocalypse sheath by running one of the screws that holds the kydex ferro rod holder through the hole in the hacksaw blade. You can turn it to strike your ferro rod without taking it off the sheath. If you lose your striker then that would mean you lost your ferro rod as well.

I really like the fact that you differentiated bushcraft vs survival and went survival with a survival/do it all knife. Can I make a bow drill, no, my skills are not there yet. Do I carry a ferro rod and tinder, sure but, I also have a bic and ranger bands (bike tire inter tube cut in bands) for starting fires when emergencies happen. A lot of words to say I appreciated how you took a look at this knife.

Your last little bit of wisdom there was spot on! But then I am a firm believer that a knife is a knife and there is actually no such thing as a "survival" knife in reality.

I have the same knife. I've found that a shallower angle against the spine throws decent sparks. Not as good as a 90* flat spine, but more than acceptable.

Just back from the four day march in Nijmegen and a week of Covid and now found your new video with my favorite knife (mine in apocalyptic finish as I need a non reflective tool). Agree on scraping fatwood. In fact, I would not use any portion of the cutting edge for doing that as the belly point is needed for skinning animals or fine cutting of material (e.g. fabric, leather). A truly well made knife. Great vid as usual Rob - nothing wrong with using rubber when needs must.....show me anywhere in the developed world that doesn't have old car tyres lying around! It probably counts as natural tinder now 😅 I was thinking, would the finger notch choil scrape? I'm with you 100%, sharp spines should be ubiquitous - so many bushcraft uses, I just dont understand why they are left off......round the spine from the handle for an inch for carving comfort, the rest of the spine sharp sharp sharp. Chalk and cheese to the Selvans wasn't it!

The blade (except for the choil) is almost identical in style to the Fallkniven S1, which is not a complaint because it's one my favorite designs.

I must have got my Rambo knife from the same shop as you. Mine snapped were the blade meets the handle, awful.

Drawing that knife up in the triangle of death not safe you were feathering wood up between your legs you’ve got major arteries in that part of your legs a slip of a wet knife out of the hand could be fatal given the rural location, probably best to find an alternative way of doing that with a larger piece of wood. Otherwise a good solid video with spot on advice.

The TRC Apocalypse is my favourite knife, but mine is even worse at fire lighting. It has the brown Apocalypse finish. If I was to light a fire I would bring something else to spark.

Loosen the ferrod holer on the screws, there should be rubber spacer washers.

Usual wisdom Rob, got other financial priorities at present else I’d be all over TRC knives, the smaller ones like the This is Freedom etc are pretty good value for what they are too imho..

Hi mate, nice video again. Well this knife seems to be good. It costs here 490 €. I always ready for paying a lot of money gor a good knife. The value between knife material and price is not consistent. I stay by my fallkniven A1 X. It was one of my best investments. Only my opinion 😊

Didn’t really appreciate the size of the knife till you started chopping, that looks to be a not too big not too small kind of size. Not heard of the maker before. Could you flatten the spine for scraping? How was the handle was it comfortable. I like the look of it.

Been waiting for a Mille Cuori since last year, think TRC are too busy making DBK knives to produce their own models.

Can anybody say they notice a big difference in real world use with "super steels?" Just curious. I think I'm over it, I've been using a sog stout flk and have been blown away. Other than the frame lock being a tad tough to get to on the close it's one of my too 5 knives and it cryo treated d2. Not sure if they use cpm d2 and don't specify but I'm pretty sure it's just ingot form d2.

It seems to be well made, except for the choil which only removes useful edge and adds nothing to the utility of the knife. Thanks for bringing me along again. :)

I think Rambo or something like that should carry in movies more knife like this. Seems very functional, tactical, and the bowie vibe is strong. Although personally these more tactical/military style knives are not my thing really

take the Choil for the Fire Steel

I've been trying to get one of these for a while now, but no joy so far.

These knives make absolutely no sense to me. Beyond the outrageous price. The choice of steel makes no sense for a knife that size. Who goes to the woods with a knife that costs that much. I could buy a whole outdoor setup for the price of that knife. Plus still have money to spend. I personally prefer toughness over edge retention. Don't want a knife that takes hours to put a edge on. For some reason seems everyone pushes these high dollar knives that really don't do anything a good budget knife won't do.

The worst conditions make the best tutorials; but they sure do drain your funny bone, don't they? Impressive sheath, impressive edge; it's a shame to fall short on other, equally important abilities. I noticed right off, that the handle would probably not work well in my hand. You didn't mention it, so I assume it worked well with yours. I too was thinking Falkniven all through the vid, and in the end, I guess we were all thinking the same thing. Who knows, maybe someone from TRC R&D sees this and makes some changes; stranger things have happened. Thanks Rob; a fine way to wind down the weekend. :D 🪓🗡🪚
