One of my favorite Disney movies ever and definitely my favorite version of Robin hood. It's fun to spot all the instances of recycled animation, and Peter Ustinov as Prince John is one of the most underrated Disney performances ever!

Phil Harris was a HUGE comic actor in the 40-50 on radio shows. He also did lots of singing. In the old radio show Jack Benny, he was also mocked as a man that was "large" and a drinker. He was a great actor no matter what he was in. In some way he was like Robin Williams, as he would always go off script. The hilarious part of all that being, it's was all LIVE radio shows.

Another great Disney movie from this era is The Sword in the Stone. I always loved that one. Before home video was a thing, Disney used to re-release their older movies to theatres every 10 years or so in order for a new generation to get a chance to enjoy them. My poor parents took me to see 101 Dalmatians probably 6 times when it was in theatres because I was like 4 at the time and once it was gone, it was gone.

Yes: Little John, Baloo and Thomas O'Malley were all voiced by singer/entertainer Phil Harris, a very popular performer in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. His music catalog has some quite amusing songs, well worth a listen.

Eric: Robin Hood and Little John work together to rob the rich and give to the poor and man are we in need of that kind of action nowadays. Me: I strongly, strongly agree with that statement.

One of my favs! The only copy we had when I was growing up was at a vacation house. And every time we were there, I'd always would watch it. And it was tradition to have a double feature withe 1938 version with Errol Flynn. Snakes don't walk, they slither. So there.

I've watched this movie countless times since I was a little kid at my great grandma's house. Amazing and Nastalgiac all at the same time. Also, Phil Harris, Little John 's voice actor, is a Disney voice acting legend. He also played Baloo in Jungle Book. Thanks for this reaction to a movie i love so much 😢

I honestly enjoy this movie, it one of the classic disney with jungle book and mary poppins that i watched as a child you are correct about robin hood legend eg him steal from the rich to give the poor and using a bow but there is also some historical fact too like king richard and king john being real people the real king richard I sadly never got to reclaim his throne as he die during his crusade when he was struck.in the shoulder with a crossbow bolt fun fact: there is a statue dedicated to the folk hero outside nottingham castle

Taxes were collected in a number of different ways back then, but critically what happened in the time period presented here was that, in order to finance the 3rd Crusade, Richard had sold the right to collect taxes from his subjects. This left one with little to no legal recourse and forced John to get creative in finding ways to finance the government. Then Richard got captured by the King of Hungary and it cost literally a King's ransom to get him free... Oh and with regard to the species used for the characters, apparently Disney wound up re-using character designs originally intended to be used in an adaptation of the 'Reynard Cycle' that wound up being cancelled.

Eric you have a talent for picking movies to react to that mean a lot to me! I remember watching this on my seventh birthday with my dad and getting super excited because obviously skippy the rabbit had the same birthday as me! And we were the same age! I remember him bursting into laughter not knowing why. He still teased me years later with the little bunnies birthday, asking me if it still was my seventh birthday (I'm 26 now😂) Thank you for sharing your reaction!
