Many people don't know this, but Robin Williams took a major pay cut to do this role. He thought it was that important and valuable to do. Not only was he an amazing actor and comedian... he was a true humanitarian who cared about helping people through movies like Good Will Hunting (life-changing movie). RIP Robin.. you are so loved and appreciated and very much missed...

I always liked Robin Williams much more as an actor than as a comedian. I thought his true talents were in acting. His style of comedy was far too manic, for my taste. Sure, he was talented, but that kind of comedy never appealed to me much. But that says more about me than him. Obviously, many people loved his comedy.

Not disputing this. He got about 3 million up front. Once it did well though he got about another 20 million in royalties. But it's still a big risk to take as you never know when a movie will bomb or not. Good on him.

Of course Mrs. Doubtfire. The Fisher King. Good Morning Vietnam. My husband and I had the privilege of seeing him perform live. It was with David Steinburg. It was about a year before he died. It was an upfront and personal account of their experiences together, etc. We were so lucky to have had that experience. RIP Robin... ❤ We all miss you... The beautiful irony of Robin williams is he was both one of the greatest iconic comedians and he was also one of the greatest dramatic actors of all time. His versatlity was extraordinary, and his ability to literally become the role he was playing was done effortlessly and he was able to tap into the emotional energy of each role he played. His off the cuff creativity enabled him to perform roles without simply reciting lines on a script, but he performed each role from the depths of his soul. 'The smartest thing any producer or director could do was briefly paint the overview of the scen and then get the hell out of the way and let Robin Williams paint a masterpiece on the canvass of cinema. Finally, why do I get the feeling Robin Williams would have acted and create comedy even if he made only minimum wage, he did it for the love the art, it was literally who he was, and perhaps aspects of his depression was he was able to ecape the realities of this cruel world in the performance of his craft and he also took all of us fans with him on his epic odyssey.

Robin was outrageously funny as he was tickling all of our hearts, but it was his acting at serious moments which really touched our souls. From Patch Adams, to Sean Maguire in Goodwill Hunting, to John Keating in Dead Poets Society, to his HBO Specials, Robin was just spectacular. RIP Sir.

To this day I can't visualize anyone else delivering the speech on the bench at the duck pond the way Robin did in the movie. I still recall the first time I saw the movie and thinking during the scene, "That's an Oscar-winning performance right there." We lost a brilliant, talented man when Robin left us. He was a rare breed that could bring us to tears with both his frenetic comedy and his dramatic acting.

Beauty comes in many forms, and Robin Williams is one such form. I feel lucky to have been alive at the same time he was. From Mork&Mindy all the way through to Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society... oh the list is too long but the memories are cherished. He was a beautiful, wonderful actor and I hope he is at peace now.

the man wasn’t only a dream to audiences, directors, fellow actors, inspired young filmmakers and people all over the world… he also delivered an acceptance speech that was short and tight and probably made the producers of the Oscars very happy because he came in under time… he was swift, charming, and loveable in maybe the fewest words ever said on that stage. What an immeasurable legend!
