In the movie they autotuned some of the unaturally high parts, but to hear someone naturally get close af is simply amazing!
@connyfere13842 жыл бұрын
The difficulty of this song is not in the high parts, every well educated sopera singer (sopranists) can do this, but in the speed notes are switching. But you´re right, this is amazing! In 1997, where this film was made, people thought, this song would not be singingable of a human. But an alien could. As we know now, a human singer is able to sing this (as we can hear here as well, and I´m sure Inva Mulah-Tschako, the original singer, also could), even if there are no technique issue used, assumed to a well-trained voice.

@@arin7981 Dimash's interpretation is nice, as well, but mostly because he excels at the high notes. He transposed the low key parts to fit his voice. What is amazing in both Interpretations is, how much of the studio effect tricks they manage to replicate with a normal human voice. As someone stated before, Eric Serra intentionally used tuning and pitch shifting effects to make it "in-human". To get this close to the fast and wide pitch shifts created with studio effects in post processing is an incredible achievement from both singers.

It took vocal cords trained for pop music, Opera, and traditional Chinese songs blended together for Jane Zhang to perform a song that when created was labelled as impossible for humans to perform without electronic help. She may be a pop singer but few people know that she trained in both Chinese and western opera styles and in Chinese minority traditional styles before becoming a Chinese pop Idol. All those diverse singing styles forged her vocal cords to a level that she could perform the aria from The Fifth Element perfectly. Many singers have destroyed their vocal cords and singing careers trying to sing this aria. Even the original singer damaged her vocal cords performing in the movie.

@ksliang60722 жыл бұрын
Where did you read that the great Inva Mula damaged her vocal cords performing the aria? By all accounts Inva told the composer 'it was impossible to hit some of the notes in the song because a human voice couldn’t change so quickly between them.' That is why they spliced and edited the final part of the performance in the movie, and to also make it sound like an alien was singing. Jane is extremely gifted but she doesn't quite sound like the original . IMO Inva is in a class of her own. Just youtube the original.
@michaelvandecoevering66352 жыл бұрын

@MrMcCuinn6 ай бұрын
It was one take. They didn't use multiple tracks. They actually cut up her original performance for the film. Close to half of it is missing. Even if it had been multiple takes/tracks, there isn't one song in popular music today that doesn't use compiling. Which is sometimes dozens of takes trimmed into one song. Sometimes one word will be several compiled sound files. That doesn't take away from the talent of a singer that can do it the way Meiwenna (sorry if that's misspelled) did it outside of a studio.
@justinvachon3839Ай бұрын
It was all done by one singer but the notes had to be sung separately and then cut together because the notes change at such a speed it would be impossible for a human to do it any other way

Absolutely incredible vocals.. at the risk of being attacked, i have to say the finale to this piece is probably the most under-capitalised music opportunity i have ever seen. There was a conductor and extremely talented orchestra sitting by idly during the final movement whilst an underwhelming modern funk band played in support of those incredible vocals.. If the orchestra, and in particular the orchestral strings were applied in the final movement to support those amazing vocals, the overall musical piece could have been so dynamic and powerful as to stun the audience into realising what i think the composer of this piece was trying to achieve.. a fusion of classical and modern music to take the listener into a future reality. Seriously, go and listen to great funk and disco music, the synth or strings are so often pivotal in creating the dynamics, not just some slap bass with the occasional strum of a Les Paul guitar.. .. perhaps though it is best (and perhaps intentional) that the modern support band was underwhelming as it definitely highlighted the almost 'non-human' talent of the vocalist.. she is incredible...perhaps that is why it was arranged in that way!! :)
