Here's the thing, I actually think it hits harder when Robocop says "I can feel them, but I can't remember them". Because the audience knows about as much about Murphy's family as he does. They (OCP) really DID take everything from Murphy to turn him into Robo. His flesh, his mind, his family, even his memories, and almost even took what was left of his humanity too. I mean imagine KNOWING that you had something incredibly dear to you, taken away so thoroughly that you don't even have any traces of it left, not even a memory of it, just the knowledge that you lost it.

@@technofilejr3401 Spot on. I don't think we hear Robo speak after this point until the scene where he removes his helmet. From this point he sounded less like a robot and more human. If you listen to his voice in the OCP tower scene when he's attempting to arrest Dick, before the close up of his eye (''You'd better take me in officer''......''I will''...) you can hear he still sounds robot like. Very different to the way he sounds when he says, ''Aim for me'' or ''No thank you. I'm not hungry''.

I would argue that RoboCop should have remained a stand alone film, without any sequels. For starters, RoboCop 2 has him acting like a machine again, dismissing the whole point of this movies ending - getting his humanity back. The third movie doesn't even have the original actor, and was essentially a 90's TV network movie.
@domainmojo2162

All the games were the best things that has happened to the franchise since "2" (which I argue is still a great sequel- possibly one of the coolest designed villains - a cyborg... with a meth addiction! /Shudder!/) The original 1987 arcade, Robocop vs Terminator on the Genesis, and Rogue City are my favorites- and that says a lot since Robocop 2 was a blast, and a gorgeous game for the NES.
@OnionsMakeYouCry9
@OnionsMakeYouCry9 23 күн бұрын
I actually liked 2 however I felt that aspect of it completely undermined the events of the first where he'd reclaimed his humanity eventually and it's like that never happened. Without that factor, the 2nd film would've been nearly perfect like the original and yeah, 3 is best avoided as tonally it's way off the other 2 and they'd wanted to merchandise to children with action figures so they toned down the violence and removed the satirical elements which made the first 2 strong films. It always did bother me that he'd acted robotic again in 2 and likewise how Directive 4 is fried in the sequel when they load him up with insane directives and he shocks himself, effectively wiping it out clean and then in the third, that whole directive comes back despite being cooked out of his programming by the midpoint of 2, that's the plot part of 2 and 3 that bothered me and it's a wonder how no one caught this when writing the scripts for the sequels.

I just don’t agree with putting modern day effects into an older film whether it’s remastered or not. When I watch films from the 70s or 80s I want to see effects from the 70s or 80s. look what George Lucas did with Star Wars throwing in random CGI creatures or characters that don’t fit at all with the other effects used in the film.

Robocop's Auto-9 pistol is a Berretta 93-R which was modified with a large flash hider and grips. The director wanted him to use a Desert Eagle, but it looked too small being carried by someone with large armor. The gun itself would appear again in Far Cry Blood Dragon, a DLC made as a love letter to 80s movies such as this. This is also one of the first appearances of the Barret M82 .50 Cal in media, as the Cobra Cannon

It was stop motion, not claymation. To be honest , I think a lot of movies today look terrible with CGI . It looks fake to me with the CGI like watching a video game and as far as Star wars when they added the extra stuff later on, that looked terrible too with jabba the Hut an episode 4, they should have just left that scene out.

Actually, brothers, I think many (not all, of course) younger generations will appreciate the older effects (it's actually stop motion effects), as long as the story is genuinely good. And it's a way for future generations to look at it and appreciate how these old effects like in this movie paved the way for future effects. Example: Ray Harryhausen's films, like the 7th Voyage of Sinbad and the original Clash of the Titans, are still effective, and fondly looked upon today. Many People appreciate the wizardry of those old Claymation effects in those films. Some filmmakers make Claymation models to inform CGI renderings, imagine that. CGI is cool, but even it will date as well. The original Star Wars trilogy reissues have CGI effects that are looking rather wonky now, in my opinion. And the original theatrical prints of those Star Wars movies are rare now, because George Lucas wants people to just recognize the new editions, unfortunately. Also, I watched a very recent Marvel film, and the green screen renderings took me out of the movie because they looked so animated. One more thing: IMHO, even a modern effect like CGI blood doesn't psychologically hit as well as good ol' fashioned squibs, even for many modern audiences. If they were to, say, go in and replace this film's stop motion, who knows if they might get carried away and want to clean up other effects, like the bloody scenes. Trust me, you wouldn't want CGI blood to be inserted into a classic film like this.

The idea of Robocop defines what kind of hero is needed in places like Old Detroit. The human spirit cannot be broken, torn away and defeated by the corruption that stands before it. A summer blockbuster, social satire and crime action thriller that indeed blew away the masses. Also an Academy Award winner for Best Sound Design. One of the first-ever Rated-R properties to transition into multiple mediums. From film to live action & animated television, toys, video games, comics and more. Speaking of video games, putting him in Mortal Kombat 11 expansion:'Aftermath' (2020) and bringing him back to glory in Robocop:Rogue City (2023) harkens back to what makes the character so iconic. "The Future of Law Enforcement" was the tagline. This film surely was ahead of it's time.

The crazy part is that they'd had to tone down the violence several times to escape an NC-17 rating and we're left with what we got. The director once argued that they'd ironically made the film far more brutal in censoring it because prior to the changes, the violence was almost cartoonish and over the top and they effectively made it feel more real and gritty by "toning in down," you can see the original cut now and honestly, I'm glad that censors toned it down because it really improved the film imho. I too watched this film as a child and I can't recall a more visceral death scene of the main character myself. A firing squad of shotguns depicted in one of the most visually realistic ways of what a firearm will do to the human body I'd seen until the 2008 "Rambo," I'd say which I still think has the most realistic violence I'd seen in film. Practical effects definitely make that feel all the more real and that's what's missing in a lot of films these days.

@ultimatesunrise yep, this film is one of my all time favorites so I'd watched A LOT about the making of it, which gave me even deeper appreciation and context behind the film. Loved how Verhoven looked at the title and rejected it upon that alone and then allegedly, his wife took it out the trash and read it and then convinced him that he should do it because there's more to it than meets the eye and I doubt it would've been anything close to what it was if any other director tried to tackle this one.

Re: 20:04 "How did he recognize him from the lips / from one encounter". Answer: Because, as you would have heard had you all been paying attention / listening instead of speaking over the dialog just before then, Robocop said "Dead or alive you are coming with me", and then the same "doo doo doo" mystery music began playing that also played when Robocop twirled his gun in front of Lewis earlier. That's the "I remember something" music in this movie, and it was because "Dead or alive you are coming with me" was the same line Murphy said to them before.

When they started using other materials like metal or plastic figures or whatever they just blanket, call it Stop-Motion. A lot of KZfaqrs are doing it now with action figures. what people often dont realize, after directive 4 was activated, all of murphy's software shut down, look how he moves before and after he wanted to arrest dick jones, after directive 4, murphy's brain took over the movements of his given body, that's why the stairs were the only option, where he covered his face, while the cops shot him, not knowing what he has become. and at the bottom of the parking lot, he met lewis, and he just reached out hoping to find a place of silence to think

Robocop was one of the baddest movies that came out in the 80s...I was right there in the Theater on opening day.

It wasn't exactly Claymation -- but Stop Motion using a model made out of different materials. Claymation is stop-motion filmmaking that uses clay. Same concept though. CGI is definitely smoother (usually!)

If you guys enjoyed Cyberpunk Edgerunners, this movie (like few more classic of this period like Bladerunner, Johnny Mnemonic, Ghost in the Shell - the anime etc.. etc..) defined what today we call the Cyberpunk genre.

I have noticed that in about 90% of Robocop reaction videos, most people miss the "Dead or Alive..." line. Most keep asking how Emil recognized him. I am not a fan of flashbacks, in movies, for things like that, but clearly it seems the audience is not retaining certain information anymore. 🤔

Ahh my 80’s childhood one of the first hardcore action movies I seen I think I was 7 or 8 the first time I seen Robocop and it blew my little feeble mind and it’s crazy that in 2024 it still holds up . Would love to see I guys react to more 80’s and 90’s classics one I think u guys would love is “The Crow”

It was stop motion Not claymation. I'm sure if you look try just a little more and look closer. You'll find more faults & imperfections, then share with the subscribers that follow, that a reactors experiences, would be more sufficient with ideal ways to revise & improve, Recreating a better quality of inventiveness, sharp intelligence & skillful references. Friends and I watching in a theater when released, noticed the Claymat-- Stop motion scenes just as the many reacto-- Critics pointed out. We simply wanted to enjoy, be entertained & escape the days concerns. . . Do reactors purposely examine the films too make notice of errors & what should have been done? If so, then I apologize for not knowing the intentions & objective.

effing amazing film, if there's a special effect in existence, this film likely used it, even the elevator shots are done with effects to make them look more futuristic..a synthesizer was even used to make the opening doors sound, there's a 3 part mini-series doc that goes deep in detail how the film was made called ROBODOC and it's really neat, Robocop's gun is actually a full auto Beretta one of the crew kept in his car in Dallas..slightly modified, the squibs that explode the mimic gun shots hurt like hell and one nearly blew a guys balls off, haha, the final scene with the fall looks bad because they had to rush it, I think the room was too small for the lens to fully zoom out and so it made the arms look elongated, haha I kinda wish they'd go back and fix it because even when the film came it that effect looked bad yeah the only problem I think this film has is not showing up more of Murphy and his partner prior to being robocop, I think that just one 5 minute scene of the two talking to each other about their day or whatever after work woulda really helped the film, you see a lot of scenes like that in Lethal Weapon and it really took those films to the next level, but of course 1 movie can't have it all..

Murphy was considered a "prime candidate" evidently. They basically set him up to be killed. Total lack of regard for humanity in this film.

Somehow you're leaving out the best lines Can you fly Bobby? Mind if I..zip this up? Murphy.. it's YOU! (Lewis to Robocop in the police tunnel) How Does Emil recognize Robo? "Dead or alive, you're coming with me" That's what Murphy told him months ago. And his voice is only a little more metallic now. So yeah, Emil remembers him. Dick Jones.. played by Ronnie Cox. Also starred in Beverly Hills Cop. Great guy!! Also.. try leaning back from the mic before screaming. like with your reaction to the crotch shot. j/s -but yeah, enjoy the original Robocop. We all still love it.
