1987 was a fantastic year for movies. I saw this when I was 12. Which is a bit young for this movie, but it was the 80's I loved it. This is the first movie I ever saw actor Kurtwood Smith in who played the ruthless gangster Clarence Boddicker So I found it very strange years later seeing him as the Dad Red Forman on "That 70's Show" They are such different characters. He's a good actor Another movie I saw too young that same year was Predator. Thanks! Dad

Another great 1987 feature was The Untouchables. Mad Magazine did a satire titled The Unwatchables. I happen to disagree.

Shotguns can take off hands or limbs. They have shells with lots of pellets. They're especially deadly in close up encounters. As an American, I forget that people from other countries often aren't familiar with firearms...unless they were in the military.

Seriously, I think Verhoeven is possibly the most misunderstood director in the history of cinema. It's a little depressing too, because his commentary is absolutely amazing, and a lot of people would benefit from being able to recognize it.

13:36 Those were actually real ER trauma doctors who had been hired for the movie to act out a realistic ER scene. The reason they're so flat and emotionless (in english a term for that is 'being clinical', with good reason) is because they really did deal with stuff like Murphy's death, daily. Being low on emotion is actually what helps doctors stay calm and save people in emergency rooms. My entire family are doctors, so I would know. 😊

As you continue to watch the other movies in the franchise, keep in mind that RoboCop only exists because of OCP. OCP contracted out with the city of Detroit to run the city and the police, with their goal of building Delta City. OCP plays a major role in upcoming movies.

The 80s were great times for movies. You had the blockbuster and cutting edge films - Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Terminator, Aliens - then you had movies like this. Entertainment with a wink to let you in on the joke, just corny enough. I saw this in the theater when it came out, then on cable once maybe 10 years ago. I think it actually stands the test of time pretty well.
