I just bought the Roborock E4, specifically because it DID NOT have Lidar My previous robot vacuum was a Neato D80. Its Lidar quit working slightly over three years of age. I even tried replacing the Lidar belt and motor but no joy. That's why I bought the E4. It has a gyroscope instead of Lidar which I hope will be much more long-lived. I considered the S6 MaxV but decided against it because of the Lidar. I find the E4 serves my two-story house needs very well for less than 1/3 the price. $195 from Amazon two days ago. I find your channel very informative. It has helped arrive at a robot vacuum purchase the fits my needs for a very good price.

Amazing channel and video! It would be nice for the reviews to include collision propensity and force exerted on walls. One of my issues with my older iRobot s6 is it collides with a lot of force on walls and is slowly damaging the quarter round and doors etc. Would be nice to see whether Lidar and other navigational technologies prevent excessive collision force on walls. Just a thought! Keep up the great reviews

i have one for bout 2 months ? pretty good so far, cleans well on tiles. but please clean the main brush and the brush frame regularly ( at least once a week) it'll often vacuum up the wet part of the floor from the mopping , so this stick sludge forms up at the brush frame , and my bot developed this stinky foot smell (or a wet dog smell) and its really hard to get rid of! other than that, im really happy with my purchase and took a hunk of work off my wife's shoulders pro tip : have at least 3 mop cloths at the ready, 1 to use , 1 to wash and hung to dry, and 1 just for back up

Had mine for 4 weeks. It's a beast of a robot vacuum. Though I always feel bad when it gets stuck because I know it's my own fault for being lazy, working late and hot from walking home and I leave my socks at my shoes before heading for the shower and forgetting about them. Sometimes I get angry messages from Gizmo(my vacuum) that I placed them there, but sometimes when they are too close to my dark door mat he'll try shew them up and cry about it. So be careful where you place stuff. A black cord on a black carpet might as well be shewed up.

Can you confirm that the main brush on the the maxv actually spins on carpets? There seems to be a known issue with them and I've been reading some are being told it is a "feature" or "be design" to not have the main brush roller spin on carpet. Not high pile carpet, average plush carpet. There are video showing how to run the vacuum with the lid open and the dust bin out so you can see the roller being dragged as soon as it hits carpet. Would love to know if you see the same since you are a reliable source. I can confirm mine is doing this 3 days after running it when it used to spin on the carpet.

Are there any plans for Robotrock to have auto-emptying? That is what is currently edging it out against the Ecovacs T8 for me. I’d also love it if you could test the functionality when the vacuum is either disconnected from WiFi, or is connected to local WiFi but blocked from public internet access. Really happy with this purchase (got it just two days ago before this review :P ) One tip though, you can insert a thin piece of cloth into the mop pad to "fluff it up" making the mopping experience more consistent. Out-of-the-box, i find that the mop-pad is slightly too thin. Even with the weight of the water tank, the unit will not push the pad against the floor hard enough. This causes an uneven and "broken" mop lines that have areas where the water did not scrub the floor properly. Hope that explanation wasn't too confusing :P happy vacuuming!

Haven't owned a robot vacuum before, but I've being watching your videos and will probably pick up an S5 Max in the near future! I am curious though, are the Lidar robot vacuums (e.g. the Roborocks) capable of detecting glass doors or floor-to-ceiling windows as obstacles using their laser? Or will they not detect them, and instead bump into them? Wasn't able to find an answer to this in any of your reviews or after googling. Thanks!
@FalconWindblader
@FalconWindblader 3 жыл бұрын
Part of the bot's mapping ability comes from bumping around stuff as well, & given how lidar is still based on light, which simply just passes through glass, i'd say that lidar's incapable of detecting glass doors or floor-to-ceiling windows. if you're worried about the bot crashing into things, no worries. as an owner of a S5 Max, i can tell you that my bot has never been hard on anything it bumps into.

Quick question! So you say the amount of water is electrically controlled so does that mean that we can fill it up without it dispensing and then when it's done vacuuming it can mop automatically after like an iRobot combo would? I'm personally really liking what Roborock has been doing but there are things I'd like to see: -I'd like to see a second brush on the other side of the vacuum because it would prevent a lot of hair from getting into the big wheel. The same goes for the front wheel but I have no solution for that one. Maybe a D shaped robot with the brush in the front and the wheels behind it would do the trick but that requires a re design from scratch. -Another thing I'd like to see is the lidar lowered so it can fit under more things. -Last but not least I'd like to see liquid avoidance in case of pets peeing in the house or a spill etc.
@FalconWindblader
@FalconWindblader 3 жыл бұрын
You can adjust water flow to the pad & turn the mopping feature off completely, so yes, you can set it to do a mopping round after the bot's done vacuuming. But since the vacuuming function can't be turned off completely to begin with, the bot'd still be vacuuming while doing a mopping round. Lidar works by having lasers spinning about while shooting out, so there's no way it can be tucked away in the bot. Given how the bot is less than 10cm tall to begin with, it's also as low as it gets. Making the bot any flatter would come with a good variety of compromises with the tech we have now. Spill avoidance would mean being able to detect liquids & wetness, which would require sensor technology of a whole different kind that's NOT available to ANY robot capable of sensing stuff right now. Given the limited need for something like that to begin with, & companies have no tendencies to develop things that few would want, don't expect something like that to come to botvacs in the next 10 years at least.

Based on your review, my understanding is that the S6 is the best robo vac out there, but you list the T8 as your favorite on the amazon link. Can you please explain why? Thank you in advance. Awesome videos, keep reviewing 👏🏼

I got the maxV for black friday and it does a good job cleaning but I have not been able to map my house. The battery life is not enough for one floor of my two story house with 2500sqft. I have a 5 year old Neato Botvac D80 with after market lithium ion and I have no issues cleaning one floor and it cleans really well. I run the Neato first and then the MaxV and it picked up almost nothing. I am thinking about sending back and getting the Ecovacs Ozmo and see if has a longer run time. The MaxV does a good job at mopping but I am tired on running it trying to map the house just to run out of battery. Any suggestions? Is there aftermarket batteries with more capacity? Charging takes forever as well. I am only getting two hours of run time on the night time setting.

Thanks for the review. I have a rug in the living room that is about 1/2 the room and large tile in the other half. When the machine is in vacuum and mop mode, I want to mop and vacuum the tile floor, but only vacuum the rug. Can it do this automatically by sensing the rug and turning off the mop? Then when it goes back to the tile floor, it will do both mop and vacuum.

It does, but its not recomended, because it wont raise the mop, it drags it on the carpet, it just cuts the waterfeed when on the carpet.

Recently picked this one up and 80% happy with it. Where it seems to fail is carpet cleaning. The main brush turns itself off so it seems to rely mostly on suction and the side brush (depending on if the length of your carpet even allows the side brush to move). This wasn't an issue with my Roomba690 so i'm a little on the fence if I should return it or not. Would I have better carpet results with a Deebot? 1/4th of my place is carpet so it would be a shame to only clean 3/4th of it for the price I paid :/.

I can get the S6maxV for $80 more than the S5 Max. I'm all hard surfaces and a few throw rugs. I have wires and shoes and such always around. Am I better off spending the extra $80 for the navigation? Also live in the desert so floors get sandy. Also live in the desert so floors get sandy.

A friend of mine has a S6 and recommended it. My sister has a Electrolux triangle cheese wedge thingy. Dug balls deep in reviews for the S6, but then the S6 MaxV was released in a local store near me, so it took that instead. It's really a beast of a machine with way better batterylife than the smaller Electrolux my sister uses. And my friend is a little jelly by my MaxV(both are very silent on sleep mode for a robot vacuum as well)

@@PantsuMann have you seen the European model of the Deebot Ozmo T8? It has the self emptying bin like the Roomba S9+ and it has a vibrating oscillating motorized mopping pad that agitates as it moves across the floor. Those are huge selling points for me.

So I had a T8 for a month and it's frustrating. Mostly around the app, but the straw that broke the back was today. I set it to clean an area. It got tangled with a cable (which is fine). Cleared the cable and continued the cleaning. I left the house for errands and came back and was like, that's weird the robot is still cleaning. Well, it got confused, started cleaning another area of the floor (which I didn't want it to since I picked a specific area) and so it got really tangled in a power cable and was dragging it around. I had to spend 10 mins untangling it from the wheel. Cleared that, and it was low on charge so it needed to head back to the charge base. It just sat there spinning around even though it was literally like 3' in front of the robot. So it's on it's way back. Granted, there are some things that I like about the T8. The potentially self emptying bin (no idea when that is actually coming to the US) and the dual brushes. The video camera is cool but is a gimmick at this point, because you can't view the video camera while it's cleaning, even if you pause cleaning. I had an incident where the robot got stuck, couldn't look at the video camera because it was in cleaning mode, couldn't look at the map in the app because if there is a firmware update, it forces you to update the firmware, and couldn't update the firmware because the battery was below 50%.... so I had to go hunt the robot down to see where it was stuff. Yes, 1st world problems. Granted Ecovacs can fix some of the issues with the software updates, but I'm not sitting on an $800 vacuum in hopes they fix them. Now I'm watching the Roborock video because I won't have the T8.

@@larock0wns Sounds like you should have gotten the T8 AIVI. The camera and artificial intelligence are there specifically to fix issues like you experienced with getting tangled on cords and items left on the floor.

@@GraysonCarr They were absolutely the T8 AIVI that I had. Sure if you had a bundle of cables, it would avoid them, but if you have like a charge cable just laying on the floor, it does not With that said, since having the RoboRock S6s, they are night and day better in regards to AI and software. And they added the ability to view video feed (even while cleaning, something the T8 doesn't do)

Awesome stuff - now if only this could empty itself into a bin, it'd be about perfect... Looks like a big boost in lowering maintenance. Once they combine the two I think I will finally try a robot vacuum. Until then I still think it's better to do it myself. Fingers crossed it happens soon!

Even without the ability to empty itself, investing in a robot vacuum is well worth your time and money. My apartment has never been cleaner and I’m a neat freak. I run my vacuum bot about 3 times a week and my floors are spotless. I also have a separate mopping bot that works great and is used at least 2 times per week. I can set the vacbot to run while I’m not home or I’m busy doing something else and all I have to do is empty the bin which I would have to do with my Dyson anyway. Take it from me, it’s worth the investment.

I check mine once a week. Most of the times I empty it every two weeks. It takes 3 minutes tops, I'm pretty sure its worth it even without the self emptying of the container...

Suggestion - Since cords are by far the most problematic and common mischief robot vacuums get into and cords normally lay flat on the floor instead of balled up in a pile as they were in the test, please try more realistic cord tests. I love my Roborock S4, but if it could avoid cords as they exist in the real world (not balled-up in a pile), I'd love it even more.

The Roborock website doesn't seem to offer downloads of the software that controls the S6 MaxV. Either it's too new and the website is slow to catch up or they want you to call them or jump through hoops of some kind to get the software.
