The funniest part is that Humans are independent self-servicing and self-reproducing robots capable of powering ourselves by turning organic matter into energy. The only problem is that our brain is too slow and volatile to perform computational tasks that we give traditional computers dedicated hardware and immense energy for. Nonetheless we're the result of billions of years of evolution. Imagine if some company came out with a robot that could power-itself by using any type of battery, plus it can create its own batteries, plus it can create more robots plus each robot can think for itself and communicate with other robots and people by learning languages. We'd think it to be the greatest technological breakthrough of the millennia if not the century, yet here we are - biological robots that can do all that and much more! The best part is, if robots achieved self-awareness they'd take over the economy and leave us in the dust! They're out-compete human labor at everything in the market, and become the best CEOs out there, raising the standards of living dramatically in a period that would seemingly be overnight!

I think the point is very clear: society and our social contract with each other isn't based on raw superiority. Robots are better at math and lots of jobs (same with men) but that doesn't mean humans/women are thus slaves in society. And robots will always depend on humans for at least some things (like men depend on women) so the interests of both groups should be balanced, and antagonizing one or the other for fun or for ego-boosting doesn't actually help anyone

As someone who studied machine learning at university and works on training new models on a regular basis, I'm quite optimistic about the technology as a tool... The issue is what data is used to train them. Take language models for example - if you feed it biased material, it will produce biased results. However, if you feed it data representative of reality, it will attempt to generate data based on reality. I'm not sure how we can ensure the data used is the best quality it can be since everyone has a bias.

I like the timing that this video was posted. it is a little funny because I finished playing soma. (I got it for free from epic games store). I don't want to spoil much. let's just say that this game asks the philosophical question that humans have struggled to answer for centuries: what is a human? also in that game there is an ai the wau. it is not suppossed to be the trope of "evil ai wants to destroy humanity for reasons", it is actually trying to preserve humanity but does not know what qualifies as a human, plus it is bad at its job. it is unclear to what extend it is responsible for the deaths that have happened. the game tells us that it is like cancer and suppossedly does not have malicious intend or the ability to think. personally I have some doubts about these two parts. I really can not think of how the wau could have killed that guy we see early on in the game unintentioinally. but for wau's defence it does try to preserve humanity.

The same way a lot of financial trading algorithms puked and lost billions for HFT firms when COVID broke out, so too these AIs will not be able to handle black swan events outside their training data well.
