Today I meet up with dairy farmer, Peter Sargent , from near Biddenden in Kent. He shows me his wonderful herd of beautiful Jersey cows and shares his enthusiasm for robotic milking.
If you like cows - this is for you!

That was hugely informative. We all depend on farmers somewhere putting the food on the shelves, but few of us know much about the process. The workings of this hi-tech farm was fascinating to watch. And I'm lactose intolerant!

I am thrilled you enjoyed it - so much of the food process is not in the public eye any more so it is good to see.

Hi Richard, this is a great video! I’m currently on a lambing placement at this farm, just a point to add is that the jersey cows are out on the fields for a large part of the year. They were put out to graze today. People seem to be misunderstanding:)
@RichardVobes

Thanks so much for making that point. It didn't really come out in the film, so I am very grateful to you.

Jersey milk is my favourite drink in the world! It’s so delicious, creamy and nutritious and it’s a regular on my shopping list! I hope more and more people try it, as it really is fantastic - especially on breakfast cereal and in tea, and the cream is delicious with just about everything!? lol 😂❤

Reminded me of all the dairies we went on field trips to in gtade school. Dont' think I ever saw a cow being milked as it layed down though - either by hand or by machine.🤔 This is the 2nd vid of yours where I heard you say you were scared of cows. Sorry that made me laugh as cows are normally quite gentle. Now a bull - I wouldn't want to go into a coral w/ a bull I wasn't familiar w/!😬🐮

They do go out in the summer they are only housed in the winter because ground conditions are too wet plus grass does not grow much in the winter so get your facts straight.

Interesting to see the high tech way the farm is run. I guess its the way to go to meet demand. I still think its a shame they don't get to see grass having seen the way cattle act when they are let out to pasture from over - wintering in sheds. Probably cows in the field will be a thing of the past, sadly.
@RichardVobes
@RichardVobes 5 жыл бұрын
Actually they do get out into the fields for the better part of the year. I have just been informed they have now been let out into the fields - they have to wait for the grass to be a sufficient length I believe.

The pens should not be wet and dirty. It's bad for their hooves and health. Grew up on a Dairy and we never let the pens/barns stay wet or dirty.

How happy are these Jersey Cows when they are forced to birth every year and then have their babies taken from them immediately. It's really a cruel practice. Also these cows will be spent by the time they are 4 to 5 years old and their reward will be that they be shipped off to slaughter. #Sad.

Jo, Thanks for your concern. Absolutely Richard. They are now out grazing. They go out to grass 24hrs a day from April until about September. We have a system where they have the best quality grass we can give them and they quickly learn to to come in, get milked themselves and then go out to grass again. Please Jo, if you have any other concerns please message me. Thanks.

@@petersargent4138 I do not wish to get into an argument about the way you treat your animals, but I think the fact that I am a long term vegan says it all - both for health reasons and for the sake of farmed animals. Whether its cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, etc. - I believe a plant based diet is healthier for humans. I will not bore you or your followers any further - you are what you consume and each to his own beliefs.
