The piano player wasn’t bored, that is Igor Krutoy, very famous Russian composer who came out of retirement when he heard Dimash just so he could work with him. Anytime you see him at the piano it is a song he wrote. This one he wrote specifically to accommodate everything Dimash can do. The “violin” player is Dimash’s friend from Kazakhstan and he is playing the Kobyz. He is not bored either, more like “in the zone” You need to go back to the beginning of the Dimash journey to the 2017 Chinese Singer competition where Dimash got rocketed to overnight fame after singing SOS. In the different episodes in sings in French, English, Russian, Italian and Kazakh. He only knew Kazakh and some Russian. The others he had to learn phonetically in a week. He sings Show Must Go On awesomely though some criticize his English pronunciation. Dimash is now a world class artist, still just turned 27 on the 24th of May but touring the world to sell out arenas with his solo concerts, (on hold until next year due to covid-19) he also performs in concerts with the famous Russian pianist & composer Igor Krutoy, is constantly collecting awards, attends many prestigious red carpet events, film festivals and even models for lots of high end fashion houses. You should check out his more recent live performance of this same song, Stranger, that he just performed a few days ago in China for the Shine! Super Brothers TV show. What he does with his voice is even more insane than this one. It’s a competition so he upped his game. The craziest thing is that he was sick and still gave an unbelievable performance. I’d also recommend the two other songs in addition to Stranger that he premiered at this New Wave event in August -Ave Maria (a new composition with no words, not the Schubert version) and Fly Away (pop/EDM)-to get a small taste of how versatile he is.

The Singer is a program for established Chinese singers to face off against each other invites only in a competition where votes were cast by an audience of 500. Dimash Qudaibergen was a last-minute inclusion (a 'dark horse'). But his performance of 'SOS D'un Terrien En Detresse' electrified the audience, his fellow competitors and the viewers who numbered in the billions (this program was one of the most-watched in China and outside). They also got him the nickname "Imported little brother" the day after the show. They also had to get bodyguard for Dimash do to the famous over night both in China and also the world. I’ve been listening to him for over four years and he just keeps getting better. He is also a very humble and compassionate young man. His love for his homeland Kazakhstan, is sung in many of his songs. He had his first solo concert in New York back in 2019, it was spectacular. Great reaction. Very enjoyable. You have not even begun to scratch the surface of this man's talent and ability. Dimash premiered his newest song "Stranger" on August 19, 2021, during his performance at the annual New Wave music competition in Sochi, Russia. He once again performed with Igor Krotoy on the piano and introduced Olzhas Qurmanbeck on the kobyz. Igor Krutoy composed the music, American poetess Sharon Vaughn wrote the lyrics, and Dimitris Kontopoulos (Greece) and Yerlan Bekchurin (Kazakhstan) did the arrangement. It is an amazing performance, one of, if not the best to date, in my humble opinion. Dimash traverses almost 5 octaves (C2-F6) in this performance. That stunning last note is an almost 20-second full mixed voice belt in F#5. Igor Krutoy is quoted as saying that “it was Dimash’s talent that inspired me to write this song, his immense vocal abilities and his desire to sing for a large international audience. Franky, I don’t see anyone else who could perform this piece in such a way.” When Dimash first listened to the melody of "Stranger" he felt that the addition of a kobyz to the musical arrangement would give the song a unique, yet very fitting sound. Thus, the kobyz made its debut at the New Wave Hall at the Sochi Olympic Park, and what a great choice indeed. It is a beautiful sounding instrument that seems to underscore the song’s deep meaning. This wasn’t the first time that Dimash has featured Olzhas Qurmanbeck playing the kobyz. You can also enjoy him in a few of Dimash’s other performances such as Qairan Elim (official music video) and Samaltau (2020 Tokyo Jazz Festival). The kobyz is a very old, traditional, and sacred instrument in Kazakhstan. The kobyz or kyl kobyz is the most ancient bowed instrument on earth, widespread among the Turks, Kazakhs, Karakalpaks, Bashkirs, and Tatars. It became the basis for most of today’s bowed instruments around the world, including European instruments such as violin, viola, cello, and contrabass. The Kyrgyz variant is called kyl kayak. The instrument is carved from a single piece of wood (typically apricot) or juniper (arsha), maple, pine tree, or birch. The instrument consists of three parts: head (bas), middle (base is keude), and lower part (ayak) and usually measures 60-70 cm. It has two strings made from horsetail hair; one to provide melody and the other resonance. The bow is shaped like an archer’s bow, and its string is tied to both ends of the bent branch and affixed with strong threads of camel wool. The New Wave Music competition started in 2002, and for nearly two decades now has been one of the most iconic music events in Russia and other parts of the world. It is an international contest for young performers of popular music. It was founded by Russian composer, performer, and music producer Igor Krutoy (seen here playing the piano) and Latvian pianist and composer Raimonds Pauls. Russian superstar Alla Pugacheva eventually joined as one of the show’s organizers. The contest usually lasts for six days: 3 contest days, 2 special event days, and the final day when the contest's results are announced and a final concert is performed. The television audience of the New Wave music competition numbers more than 200 million people. In 2018, Dimash debuted as a guest performer, performing his now legendary rendition of “Sinful Passion”. This year (2021) Dimash took part as a guest performer, as well as a judge.
