What a privilege to chat to Bill Bennett, the Writer, Director and Producer of a new Camino Movie called "The Way My Way". I was lucky enough to attend the World Premiere of the Movie last week and thought it was without doubt, the best Camino Movie I have seen. So authentic!

Based on Bill Bennett´s best selling Camino memoir of the same title, The Way, My Way is a movie about a man walking the 800km Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route in Spain, searching for meaning - not realizing it was right in front of him, one step at a time.
#thewaymyway #caminomovie #billbennett
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The Way, My Way" is a film directed by Bill Bennett based on his best-selling memoir about walking the Camino de Santiago. The film captures the journey of a stubborn, self-centered Australian man who embarks on the 800-kilometer pilgrimage through Spain without a clear understanding of why he's doing it. As the journey progresses, it profoundly changes his outlook on life (Event Cinemas).
The production of the film emphasized authenticity and a minimalistic approach. Bill Bennett, alongside a small crew and some of the actual pilgrims he walked with years ago, aimed to capture the true essence of the Camino experience. The cast includes Chris Haywood, who plays Bill, and Jennifer Cluff, who portrays Bill’s wife (The Way, My Way - A film by Bill Bennett).
The film is not just a recounting of Bennett's physical journey, but also an introspective and transformative experience, portrayed through the interactions with fellow pilgrims and the challenges faced along the way. It blends drama and comedy, providing a narrative that is both engaging and thought-provoking (HOYTS Cinemas).
For more details on viewing options and showtimes, you can check the official film websites or local cinema listings as the film is set to release on May 16, 2024.

Saw the film just recently in a cinema in Brisbane's Western Suburbs. Only about a dozen people, all my generation, in the cinema. I laughed and teared-up on several occasions- something no movie has ever done in the one movie. That in itself speaks for the power of the message of the Camino. I hope to do it soon. I'm 73 and still walking OK so there's a chance for me yet. I want to do it on my own so I can share the experience with strangers. Buen Camino.

Been hearing of Bill's movie for a while now,. Every interview with him reveals more about himself. This has blown me away, the journey he plans to take and how humble he is about it all is a testament to the true Camino spirit and mindset. If I could watch the movie on the 16th I would take everyone I know but on the 16th of May (God Willing) I will be making my way over the Pyrenees to Roncesvalles on my first Camino. Been trying to do this for 20 years. Any fears and concerns I have are trivialised by listening to Bill. Thanks Rob, great interview, so much appreciated.

I have just seen this movie, & absolutely loved it! It seemed to be an authentic experience of The Camino, & the part that stuck with me was when Bill says to the young woman, "Forgive yourself & ask for a miracle" - I need both at the moment! Well done, Bill Bennett!
@robscamino

So glad you enjoyed it Mary. Have you walked a Camino? I think what sets this movie apart is the authenticity. Largely due to using Pilgrims for many of the key roles. And mostly the Pilgrims Bill walked with 10 years earlier! It was the interaction of the Pilgrims that nailed it for me. How the relationships developed and deepened, the emotional stories they shared. The support and understanding they gave each other. That was so authentic and is part of the Camino that makes the journey so unique and transformative. For me at least. I recall setting out on my first Camino looking for answers. And realising after a week I didn't even know what the question was! The questions came after about 2 weeks......and the answers started to emerge after that. The movie captures that send of 'quest' so well.

Just finished my first camino and loved everything about it, even the pain and frustration when it presented itself. Hoping that the movie will still be showing when we get back to Adelaide as we will both be seeing it. My wife did her first (by herself) in 2018 and her take on it was that it was life affirming but not life changing. I think that's how I feel about it as well. My other quote on the camino is that it is like the United Nations but one that actually achieves something positive. People from a vast range of different countries, race and religions (not all pilgrims are Christians) walking together, helping each other out, talking about life and enjoying themselves with the common purpose of finishing. Sounds like world harmony to me 🙏👍

Good point. I think many have a rather romantic notion of what a Camino is, and perhaps approach it rather like going on vacation? But it's very hard for many of us. Physically, Emotionally and Spiritually. And sticking with it, giving ourselves up to it......maybe that is where the transformation starts to happen? Who knows? I just know that I feel an energy, freedom and sense of peace on Camino, that is quite unique. I think that comes out in the movie? I'd better go see it again LOL
