Ah Huey! When “Sports” came out, we all bought it. This period (1981-1986) was such a fantastic time for music! So many huge groups! The big 60’s and 70’s groups were still doing new stuff and all these new groups were trying new sounds with every album. The 80’s was the decade of the sax! I know the other guys were impressed, but what I remember most was this specific song (“I Want A New Drug”) coming on her radio 3 times in a row when she picked me up. I have a lot of respect for Huey. I don’t know him of course but I saw a documentary about him & the band. Him mostly. When he was 17 or 18 his dad encouraged him to travel before college. So he went backpacking across Europe for a while. Later when he formed the band things didn’t exactly pan out and the manager kinda forced him to fire the original bass player because the manager felt he was dragging down the band. Against his better judgment he fired the guy & felt horrible. The band still didn’t rise like the manager or the band wanted and the manager felt someone else was dragging them down and wanted Huey to fire someone else. Huey said he wouldn’t fire anyone else because they were a team and they would either make it or fail together because one band member isn’t better than the other. So the band stayed as is and if I remember correctly the manager quit and Huey took over things and they began to pick up to what we now know as HL& the news. Each of the band members admitted that individually they weren’t that good of musicians but together they were decent. Lol Huey has a lot of life experiences from a young age all w the encouragement from his father. If you’d like to know more the documentary is really good. It’s been so long I don’t exactly remember the name but it’ll be easy to find.

Like it was the first time we ever heard it! They tore up RED ROCKS with this song. WOW! That’s when I realized what it means to be a real musician that you can get up there and knock it out of the park even though you played it hundreds of times and it’s gonna sound fresh like you never heard it before that’s what a real musician is and that’s what Huey Lewis and the News is all about! Seen them live at least a dozen times, one of my favs. Avid concert goer since 10th grade. 250 plus live shows. Wouldn't trade growing up in the 70's for anything. GREAT MUSIC!

I was a huge Huey Lewis fan back in the mid 80s when this came out. I remember being 15 years old and hanging out with my friends at the beach and you heard this everywhere. His style was a great mix of the older 50s rock N roll with the newer energy of early 80s rock.

Another tune from the same album that contained "Do You Believe In Love" is "Hope You Love Me Like You Say You Do" -- which was a top 40 hit, but only just. However, it's one of my favorites from Huey & The News, and is a great slower tune from their catalog of awesome music.

Huey Lewis always makes me smile. What a great, fun song, with great musicians. They have so many hits! And, oh, you guys make me smile.

This may be their funnest song of all. Gotta love it! A brief anecdote - Huey and the band got in a little trouble with parents and other uptight types with the title of this song. I remember the backlash in the news that the band was "promoting drugs" to young people. Totally misinterpreted - what a laugh! I suggest trying "Jacob's Ladder," "Walking on a Thin Line," and "I Know What I Like" next - all fantastic songs.

In the movie "Duets" Huey played Gweneth Paltrow's estranged father and they sang "Cruising Together". It's my favorite song by him.

I recently heard that Huey Lewis was having trouble on stage at concerts. We are starting to lose great singers like Lewis. It’s looking like Phil Collins may have to call it a career for some of the difficulties he’s been challenged with. But if Lewis is able to champion through his challenges and get back on stage then if you’re able - do go check them out. Otherwise, you might be stuck finding live performances on KZfaq or wherever they can be found.

There was actually a huge lawsuit back in the day about this song. Huey Lewis sued Ray Parker Jr. because Ghostbusters is basically this song note for note. It's even the same key and around the same tempo.

The only group I’ve seen 3 times. They are that good! If I’d had the opportunity to see them more I would have. Just a really fun group, and Huey was always in complete command of the stage.

One of the most overlooked yet massively influential to the culture & to rock n roll. He blended so much sound from rock n roll, jazz, blues, & pop that we hadnt heard before. Plus his voice is iconic & one of a kind. You know who it is without even seeing him.

Check out the Retrowave movement in music if you really do want a modern take on this fun 80's music! The Midnight is the perfect gateway into this music, check out songs like "Jason", "Sunset" and their newest song released about 15 days ago called "Heartbeat" It's a very good modern take on the old 80's synths and guitars. I think you both would find things you like in this new Genre. ALSO... Fun Fact: Huey Lewis was approached by the makers of "Ghostbusters" to create a theme for the movie. He turned them down as he was working on a song for Back to the Future (The Power of Love). the Ghostbusters crew then hired someone else to create the theme and they wanted it in the style of Huey Lewis & The News. We got the famous "If there's something strange in your neighborhood, who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!" Sing it to the intro of this song and you'll quickly find out why Huey Lewis won a lawsuit against the film's production company LOL.

Such an underrated band. 'Power of Love' is the one song of theirs that everyone knows but they have so many great songs. 'It's hip to he square' is a great song for you to check out. Please check out a band called Thunder - Dirty Love, you'll love it 👍

So glad you're back on Huey! I'd say the next ones to be on the reaction channel should include "Heart And Soul," "Hip To Be Square" and "If This Is It" Their music videos are always a must, so much fun. Personal favorite (hard to choose, but I'm going for it) is "Hip To Be Square"s music video, just because it's a total vibe of goofiness and seriously feels like the camera crew was out to lunch and Huey & the guys were just like, "I know what we should do while they're gone!" And just recorded it themselves lol (obviously not, but that's just how wacky & fun these videos are) Can't wait for more!

Loved Huey Lewis and the News. I was lucky to see the band live. They were so good. Guitar in this song is so in your face and understated at the same time. Great stuff. I'd love to see you guys revisit INXS- What You Need, live at Wembley in 91 and Duran Duran- Save a Prayer for mellow or Wild Boys for ...not. 😬

Never experienced this myself, but not only is Huey Lewis a great artist, he is supposedly one if the nicest ones. I heard once that one of his favorite things to do after a show is go to a local bar in whatever city they are in and just find people to meet and chat with over a few drinks. He just loves to meet new people.

Saw Huey in early 80s at Springfest in Syracuse NY ... great performer and at one point jumped off the drum riser and split his red pants completely up the middle. He was unfazed, finished the song and ran back stage to quickly change during a guitar solo and returned to finish his set..
