Back story: These women, back in the day, were all models in Europe. The core group would club together and that dance move was something the did at the clubs. That is also how they met Robert Palmer. Anyways when it came time to do a vid for this song he asked them if they wanted in; they did. Don't know which is which but two of the girls helped put all the girl's moves together and rope in few more friends in to fill out the ranks. Also, the guitar solo was a paid gig done by some professional female guitar player. However we never saw her. She did not fit the model mold and refused to be made over for it. Hence the close up.

And to dispel the idea that maybe the guitarist was just a dude in a dress playing, at the very end she droops down a bit and you can see her boobs to remove any doubt :)

The record company at the time wanted Palmer to have "hot chicks" in his videos. He wasn't thrilled with the idea and took it ridiculously (and ironically) further instead--featuring many women, all with essentially the same clothes and makeup--looking like "hot girl" clones as a running joke across 3 videos, released in this order: Addicted To Love, Simply Irresistible, and I Didn't Mean To Turn You On. The happily-married Palmer was once asked in an interview if it was difficult keeping focused around all those sexy young ladies....he immediately said "Nope. I prefer a woman who is more Rubenesque". BLESS THAT MAN. Want more? Go earlier--Looking For Clues, Every Kind Of People, Bad Case Of Loving You. Great stuff!

Robert Palmer was the original renaissance man! From his early rock/blues stuff with Vinegar Joe, he moved seamlessly & successfully through every musical genre. I loved his mellow, soul stuff from the 70's. Double Fun is one of my all time fav albums!

The song of his THAT YOU TWO should React to is CALLED, "ADDICTED TO LOVE! Robert's background Dancers were basically like Shania's, Man, I Feel Like A Woman! "Addicted To Love" and "I Didn't Mean Turn You On" also used the "look-a-like" models. The theme started in the "Addicted" video as the models were miming as the band playing behind Mr. Palmer. Then in the "Didn't Mean" video the models were not only the band but the production crew and dancers. "Didn't Mean" is my definite favorite song of the three although it was not as commercially successful as the other two.

I can't believe it's been over 17 years since Robert left us. RIP Robert. Among his best songs are "Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)", "Addicted to Love" (which hit #1!), and "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On". He also released an album as the frontman for a group called The Power Station, and they did a killer cover of T-Rex's "Bang a Gong (Get It On)". Check it out!

"Every Kind of People", " Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley" both from the 70s. His 80s solo stuff is great in a different way. "Looking for Clues", "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On" , "Addicted to Love". Y'all did T Rex's "Get it on (Bang a Gong)". Palmer got with other greats to form The Power Station and covered it. Another great is "Some Like It Hot".

This & Addicted to Love is Robert Palmer in his prime during the 80s. My favorite music from him came back in the mid 70s when he collaborated with the legendary New Orleans band, The Meters, on the trilogy masterpiece, Put On Your Sailing Shoes - Hey Hey Julia - Sneaking Sally Through the Alley. These songs have to be played together to enjoy how the funky vibe builds to a crescendo!
