The Who’s performance of “See Me, Feel Me” live at Woodstock 1969 is seriously one of the greatest moments of rock history. It’s my favorite song by them and it’s a religious experience. It truly defines the generation. That would be my recommendation.

Thank god I discovered this song when I was a new, young drummer in the mid 70’s. It taught me I didn’t need to just keep a static 2/4 beat to be effective. Thank you for everything Keith Moon!
@TonyM1961

BUT, one thing you are leaving out is that once the music starts creeping into your soul, it's really difficult to keep up a static beat. Yes, rub a few accent riffs, but to keep the beat can be a challenge... and it's the most important job in the whole band. Keep the beat, keep the song on track... no matter what

The Who's "I Can See For Miles" peaked @ #9 in 1967 and strange as it may seem, it was the group's ONLY Billboard Hot 100 single to peak in the Top 10. Between 1965 ("I Can't Explain") to 1982/83 ("Eminence Front"), The Who charted 26 singles on the Hot 100. The runners up: 2) "See Me, Feel Me" (#12/1970), 3) "Who Are You" (#14, 1978), 4) "Won't Get Fooled Again" (#15/1971) & 5) "Squeeze Box" (#16/1975).

The entire album that this song is from "The Who Sell Out' was groundbreaking IMO, they used a lot of new recording and guitar techniques / ideas, including 'commercials' between some of the songs - worth a listen to the entire LP.

This takes on an even deeper meaning too, when you look at it through the modern, digital, age. "I can see for miles," indeed. With satellites and the proliferation of security cameras, traffic cameras, and the like, I can see pretty much anywhere on the globe from the comfort of my own home. Sure, it may not be real time, but I can go to street view of Times Square or the 109 Shibuya building in Tokyo and I'm still sitting here in my apartment hundreds or thousands of miles away. And certain parties-such as law enforcement-can actually see the camera feed in real time, or with only a tiny delay.

I see some comments about this being hailed by Townsend as their loudest & raunchiest song to date, then McCartney writing Helter Skeeter as a one-up. I think Helter Skeelter is indeed a heavier, more rocking song. But don't forget that The Who were once known as the loudest band out there, literally louder than a jet engine (hence Townsend's great hearing loss today), and they're the first band I'd ever heard of that smashed & destroyed their guitars after a performance. It was juvenile, but it got them noticed in the press.

The Who is best experienced. You can do that if you listen to whole albums at a time. They were groundbreakers. Soon after Tommy was released, they did a live performance of it at Fillmore East. Leonard Bernstein went backstage, grabbed Pete Townshend by the shoulders, and said, "Do you realize what you've done?" Listening to Quadrophenia is an even better experience. And topped with "Love Reign O'er Me", it leaves you drained.

Keith Moon was a Helluva drummer. Pete Townshend with his guitar also. With Roger Daltrey's vocals.

Yes, Jay, The Who is DEFINITELY in the category of "Greatest Rock Bands of All Time"! Along with The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Yes. Once you guys have listened to more of their songs, PLEASE watch their movie "Quadrophenia"!! Their studio album, Quadrophenia, is probably The Who's best. And the movie is about the battles between the "Mods" and the "Rockers" in England in the 1960's. It is a very moving film, and also stars STING (who was an unknown at the time) as the King of the Mods.

I actually heard this song because it was on Styx's album Big Bang Theory, a collection of covers of classic rock songs

There are two separate drum tracks on this recording. One is panned all the way to the left, and the other all the way to the right. Also...the one on the right is bathed pretty heavily with a long reverb

Old Who...60s and 70s Who. LOVE LOVE LOVE. My first favorite REAL band (not the Partridge Family) I remember loving this song when it was on the radio when I was 6 years old.

The Who were a FORCE back then. People forget just how important they were. Them and The Stones and Zeppelin were THE holy trinity. Btw...Pete Townshend is a freakin musical genius. Please dig into Tommy.

Bill Clarke I agree. John Entwistle is widely considered the best bassist of the Rock Era. Rob Squad family needs to see a video of him performing. His playing is unbelievable!

Such an inspirational band that taught me so much about songwriting, especially how to tell a story with music. Think I have watched my DVD copy of The Kids Are Alright a thousand times at this point 😂 definitely worth checking out for any fan of The Who
