Stone Temple Pilots were lumped in with grunge, but they came from San Diego and weren't influenced by any of the same stuff - they just broke through at the same time as Seattle. Their lyrics tend to be more abstract or cryptic, so don't worry so much about trying to decipher the literal meaning so much as taking in the impression. RIP Scott Weiland, an amazing performer.

I was told they were grunge but personally I always thought they were way better sounding than the other grunge bands. They sounded more Rock to my ears and I loved it. I had no clue they were from San Diego! That explains so much. Thank you.

From song facts: The lyrics were inspired, in part, by an unfortunate news story in Stone Temple Pilots' hometown of San Diego, California about a missing young woman who was later discovered dead by local law enforcement ("And I feel, when the dogs begin to smell her..."). At a concert in Columbus, Ohio on May 17, 2008, lead singer Scott Weiland said that he and STP drummer Eric Kretz wrote the lyrics in a hot tub after hearing the story. Weiland has described the song as "a metaphor for a lost obsessive relationship." Bassist Robert DeLeo came up with the riff for this song in the back of a U-Haul truck the band was using for a local tour. The song's instantly recognizable chord structure was inspired by DeLeo's love of ragtime music.

Always loved the sound of this yet slightly creeped out because it seemed like it might be written from the perspective of a serial killer.
@tinagilbert8902
@tinagilbert8902 3 жыл бұрын
@@BrettLesPaul I don't think he wrote it from a killers perspective.... more wrote it about an obsessive love (unrequited) and the power (and dangers) it has to overtake a person.... not real sure but, I definitely don't think he meant to glorify killers and/or a serial killer. Just my thoughts for whatever it's worth... 😐

STP - “Interstate Love Song” & “Vaseline” also good tunes. But TBH you guys are sleeping on Chris Cornell singing for Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, and Audioslave. You haven’t really broken into 90’s grunge until you’ve heard Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog, originators of the genre. Chris Cornell is one of the GOATS for rock vocalists. He’s inextricably linked to my own rock journey, Soundgarden being the first band I ever saw live, after hopping the beer garden fence with my buddies in 11th grade. RIP Chris Cornell

I loved "Purple", and there are a ton of tracks including Vaseline that are terrific, and Interstate is a good one too, but they played that song to DEATH in the 90's. I think i couldnt listen to an "alternative" radio station for more than an hour without hearing that song.

Collective Soul is a band from roughly the same time period as being in the spotlight as STP (early 90s). They have a couple of great songs like Gel, December, Where the River Flows, The World I Know, and Shine. Check out the still Grunge, but more bluesy and at least to me, a masterful (and my favorite) singer Chris Cornell......Check out anything with him singing from Soundgarden (Songs: Spoonman, Blackhole sun, Pretty Noose, Day I tried to live) to Audioslave (Songs: Cochise, Like a Stone) to his solo stuff (Songs: You know my name, Flutter Girl, Pillow of your bones).....Another good suggestion would be "Temple of the Dog" (Songs: Hunger Strike, Say Hello 2 Heaven, Times of Trouble) which had Chris Cornell, members of Pearl Jam, and also Mother Love Bone in a one time, one album release.

For maybe the heaviest riff of that era you gotta hear Soundgarden do “Outshined”. Plus they have Chris Cornell, who has one of the most powerful rock voices you’ll ever hear.

They did that and tried to upload it the other day, but it didn't work. Don't know if it was blocked or something else was wrong with the vid.

Whoever requested this kisses literally. I’ve seen STP twice and Velvet Revolver once. STP was my first concert. When Scott died I took it hard. They were a big part of my teen years. 💜

Is crazy to think that has been almost 10 years since Scott passed. I remember the day when that happened I was at received the news notification on my phone which I rarely pay attention to but that time I saw STP lead singer on it that immediately had my attention and when I read it it said that he passed away due to OD and I was in disbelief. I played STP at work that week to honor his memory ...

Really love these guys. Glad you finally got around to them. As others have said Interstate love song is one of their hits you should definitely check out. Scott weiland was such a talented singer. It was an incredible loss when he died Dec 3rd 2015. I attended school with him at Edison high school in Huntington beach CA. And sang with him in several of the choirs. His raw talent was evident even back then. Every time I watch an STP video his voice takes me back to those days. Thanks so much for checking them out.

My favorite song from STP. This was part of my soundtrack of life in the early 90s. Watching this on MTV in the afternoons while doing chores at home. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
