Mr. Wendland knows every aspect of a fuel car. He can build and or service every component on these cars from the very front to the very back. He is fun to watch and very informative. These are the best fuel videos I've ever watched. I've learned a ton. Thanks Rob Wendland !!

After 40 years on the job, Rob retires. The machine Rob maintained made $100K/day for the company. One day, the machine stopped working. None of the staff could figure out the problem, so after a week of this, they called Rob and asked if he could take a look and they'd be happy to pay him. Rob stops in the next day to look the machine over. After a few hours, Rob pulls out a piece of chalk and places an X on a part. He says, "Replace this part and it'll be up and running." Sure enough, they replaced it and the machine worked. The owner was giddy and told Rob to send him the invoice. Rob wrote up the invoice for $10,001.00. The owner was shocked and asked for an explanation. Rob said, "$1 for the chalk. $10,000 to know where to put the X."

I remember back in the 90's up here in the northeast there was a group of fuel altereds called the "hotrods from hell." Man I used to love going to watch them. Those things are a handful. Really cool you were able to help them out. Sometimes when you get stuck on something, it's hard to see it from a different angle.

😆 Yep. I can recall using a belt sander, in a pinch, to make something work. I can't recall every instance I've done it, but "machining" shims down while installing rear-end carriers comes to mind a time or two. Ya gotta do, what you gotta do sometimes to get 'er done.

@@robwendland Being strapped into a car like that can make you claustrophobic when taking short breaths because of CO2 buildup, especially when it's hot out. I have experienced that in a Sprint cars years ago while sitting in the pits. Made me think they should use one of those oxygen enrichment machines to pump oxygen into the helmet. Have it shut off when the car launches is so nobody can say it was a dumb idea because of a fire hazard.
