Hi Gavin, love your reactions. Rocío is a great singer. Her style moves between the copla, a tradicional spanish style, close to flamenco and also melodic music. You can react to: un clavel ( more copla genre) or to: como yo te amo, si amanece, se nos rompió el amor ( more melodic). It's a pleasure to hear your comments and how you experience each performance. Thanks and greetings from Spain. 🇪🇸❤❤

Her style is basically Spanish folk music or "copla" (or a variation of it known as "canción española" which was popular in the 70's). Popular songs from this genre and era are usually this type of strong, powerful, heart-felt ballads, often sung by strong powerful women like Rocio herself ;) (but also men like Nino Bravo, Camilo Sesto and Raphael who appears in the video).

English translation: Like a tide I engraved your name in my boat I made myself sailor for you to cross the seas plowing through desire. I was so happy in your arms I was so happy in your harbor that my heart became prisioner of your body and your flesh. Like a tide, your love came to my life like a tide of fire and caresses of white foam and seashell rumors, like a tide. And I was left fastened to your storm, I lost the rudded without realizing, like a tide your love grew like a tide. I took down a star from the sky in the gap of my hands and I fastened it to your neck when I said "I love you" But when I looked at your eyes I saw a dissapointment light, I felt ashamed of my star and I slept crying. Like a tide, your love came to my life like a tide of unmeasuerd strength, I felt in my lips your poppy lips, like a tide. And I scaped with you out at sea without listening to the voices in the wind, like a tide your love was gone like a tide.

She started singing copla which a typical popular kind of music from South of Spain, very pasionated and dramatic song, but she mixed it with modern (at that time rithims as pop music). She was a total diva and I would say that, when she died, she was the most beloved and respected female singer in Spain. I love her performance of "El amor brujo" (From Manuel de Falla, classical music). Her name could sound something like Ro"Theo" "Who"Rado (j in spanish sound like a really strong h) 😉

I´m very glad that you like the music of Rocio Jurado, is one of the most important Spanish singers, she had huge success in the 70s and 80s and that song is very important in her discography. I recommend all their romantic ballads, as they have a lot of interpretive and vocal power. however I recommend you a few songs in specific such as: Lo siento mi amor (her first big hit in Latin America ballad) Señora (her best-selling album ), Ese hombre , Se nos rompió el amor o Déjala correr ,among others :) regarding the musical genre of rocio, she sang mostly Spanish copla, romantic ballad and flamenco , that of that last genre I recommend you ¨que no daria yo¨ ,She and Monica sang different musical genres ;)

Se nos rompió el amor. Vibro. Lo siento mi amor. Como las alas al viento. Ese hombre. Señora. Como yo te amo. Sevilla. and so.many other hits. Try to see all of them and when she was even younger. Hugs Gavin. She sang flamenco (Que no daria yo) copla and pop with andalusian influences.Easy listening ballads songs too. She was pure passion and trasnsgression with her provocative dresses in the 70s.

Hello, She has been the best voice of women in Spain, she was a transgressor and defender of women, far ahead of her time. In Spain with the dictator Franco, her dresses were almost always censored and sometimes she had to change right there, on one of the occasions she used a white sheet as her dress. When she sang with Monica Naranjo, she was very sick, she knew she was going to die in a short time and wanted to dedicate one last performance to her audience. She was 61 years old and had terminal cancer, so Monica covered her with her voice at some point. The moment in the song when Rocio Jurado couldn't or couldn't get her voice was December 25, 2005. At that concert, she fainted behind the curtain and was vomiting. Rocio Jurado, died 5 months later, on June 1, 2006. She, according to the time in which she was born, should have sung Copla (a Spanish style of music), but she was very modern in those years and although she sang Copla when she wanted, she chose her own style. Never in my entire life have I seen a woman sing pure Flamenco in Spain like she did, personally that was when I liked it the most, but she was faithful to what she wanted to do. I recommend this performance to you,( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rq2DdtWUmMW5pJem.htmlo ) you can see an authentic performance and if you want, I can find you a performance of her singing Flamenco. I hope you like it!!! Maria

This kind of music is “copla”. Is a traditional poetic music from spain. “Torres de arena”, Pena, penita pena, Maria de la o, ojos verdes, soy minero are one of the most famous. This was a gender very popular in the 20s, 40s,”. The man pronunciation of Rocio is more rosio the way they speak in the south. He said “that she is singing in live not playback”

Hi Gavin, here's a couple of suggestions for you, Rocío singing flamenco live (plus you can hear how her name is pronounced in Spanish at the beginning): ROCÍO JURADO (Como una Ola - Como las Alas al Viento) Actuación Especial TVE 1993. After som chit chat you can hear her singing flamenco a capella (the song is Saeta, not included in the vid title though), starting at the 2.52 mark. No longer a young girl then but certainly in her prime, some 20 years before she got ill. And as you like Rosalía you'll recognise the flamenco way of using the voice (as in Aunque es de noche), Rocío's being incredibly powerful, as you have seen. She also performs two other songs, the last one starting at 11:10 , Como las alas al viento, as recommended by others (probably lipsync though), where she uses her flamenco voice. More flamenco? Please be sure to check kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qa2UqJd9zJ_cpoE.html Rocío Jurado - Qué no daría yo.. You'll get goosebumps. There was a reason her nickname was "The greatest". You might or might not enjoy her repertoire but her voice was one of a kind . Personally I enjoy the most her fierce flamenco singing. Hope you'll have the time to check this vids and enjoy them!
