Rochester is the seat of Monroe County. It is home to and home to some of America's most iconic companies, making the region a global center for science, technology, and research and development.Rochester is also known for its music culture, having anchored a thriving music industry here, ranked among the top 10 music scenes in the United States. You mean like Kodak, Xerox, Bausch & Lomb, Hickey Freeman, French's Mustard and Ragu'? Seems you've been away awhile. They're gone. Like me, and a dozen of my friends who high-tailed it to Frisco in the late 70's and 80's never to return. Global center for science, technology, and research and development? No more. More accurately, it's a regional center for overcast skies (first in the nation), precipitation (first in the nation), the color gray and the Dull Men's Society of America (unless they've left too). Near as I can tell the thriving music industry is limited to Duke Jupiter reunion concerts.

Rochester, NY, gets an average snowfall of 94 inches per year, with a property crime rate of 1 in 32 and a violent crime rate of 1 in 149 any given year. Rochester is not the safest of places, but there are definitely other cities with much worse crime.

Due to drastic changes in its economy, Rochester and its suburbs are all facing a very uncertain future. Eastman Kodak is a shadow of its former self and the only big company headquartered in Rochester. Xerox is now based in central Connecticut and Bausch & Lomb was bought out by a Montreal based multinational. Many other companies that were once based here are now gone. Sadly, Rochester is one of the roughest and most troubled cities in the country now and it has the highest urban poverty rate in the state. Horribly sad what has happened to this once successful high tech city and its surrounding suburbs but the global economy rapid changes and numerous acquisitions of companies once based here has undermined this area’s economic vitality and has hurt the quality of life. What direction this city and metropolitan area takes in the future remains to be seen but right now things are not all that robust in Rochester.

My late Father-in-Law could have been in at the ground level at Xerox. At the time he shrugged off the opportunity, saying that they would never sell 500 copiers!

I thrived in Rochester in the 70's (my 20's), perhaps its zenith. So sad to see the ugly, featureless refrigerator box midrises which have blighted its cityscape for all eternity since then. Midtown had style, as did Xerox and Lincoln Tower. They didn't build on this fine start though. They blighted it.

Yeah, it's not a huge place. I'd consider it in between being a small and mid-sized city. The city limits have a population of around 211,556, and the metro has a population of around just under 1.1 million.

This video clearly violates the AMA drone regulations. (Academy of Model Aeronautics) This is what the FAA uses for recreational pilot rules.

Buy me a round trip ticket to Greater Rochester International, all included in the summer, and I will make that video and post it specifically for you 👍 Do you realize Rochester, NY is one of the top 5 cloudiest major cities in the lower 48? Rochester and Upstate NY as a whole are known for their harsh winters and are gloomy almost year round. Don't you'd think it'd make sense to display that?

Like what? I film these for my own fun, not for approval of strangers. Which consists of different downtowns and occasionally other specific things in the area, and in this video, that would be Lake Ontario. Coincidentally (not really), most people watch city drone videos to see the skylines and downtowns.

@@infinite.destinations The video is titled "Rochester, NY", not "Downtown Buildings of Rochester". Even if you were supposed to feature the downtown buildings, how could you miss the Strong Museum of Play or the Baseball stadium (which barely made an appearance) or the Blue Cross Arena, the Powers Building, the old Gannett headquarters building or the Rundel Library? Rochester is so much more than downtown. It has great Universities, annual festivals and a lively Public Market. Also, where did you find that awful soundtrack? I no longer live in Rochester so I was hoping to see more. I wish you well. Maybe you could re-do this.

I'm not redoing anything. This is for my own personal fun, and I'm more than happy with all aspects of my video. If you don't like it, go make a better one and tag me when you're finished. You couldn't even if you tried. I go all over the country and film cities, do you really think I'm gonna know every little building or place that someone is from there will know? Nor would I want to spend my time going around doing that either.
