A cool fact, my dad was a ⚾ baseball player and dreamed of playing in the major leagues. In 1955 he lived his dream, he pitched for the Detroit Tigers. He told me later in life his goal when he got up to bat was to hit the ball “right out of the park”. Well, he did!! In one game in 1955 playing for the Detroit Tigers, he hit a grand slam and a three-run homer. He put himself on the map. After that, he was nick named “Babe”, after the legend home run hitter, Babe Ruth. My dad’s name is “Babe Birrer”.
And, my dad always said, Sherry… all it takes is “A Dream and A Swing”

LMAO I love Pittsford real-estate people they are mighty uptight. I remember seeing a real-estate listing in Pittsford that read 'it you have to ask you can't afford it'. PLEASE a house in Pittsford is comes in on average at 400k which is 33% less than an average house in the Bronx, The Bronx. My realtor is from Rochester, too , he can't afford to take that pay cut to move back and live there

After 25 years living in NC there are still many things that I miss about Rochester where I grew up. I miss Highland Park and the lilacs, and there are amazing educational opportunities. There are mental health sources not found in many places. The proximity of the Finger Lakes is another plus, but I admit that I find the climate too severe for my old bones.

You didn't mentioned the harsh winters, which are long, dark, and depressing. The cost of winters such as tires, batteries, salt on your car (do they still use salt?) I am a native Edison Tech graduate. After the blizzard of 76 I joined the Coast Guard. I was hoping to go to Florida, Hawaii, California, they put me on an ice breaker, and sent me to the Arctic. 😃 I have lived nearly 40 years in Las Vegas, I love my hometown but wouldn't want to live there.

Hi Grady - Check out my latest video. The #1 reason why most people say they leave Rochester NY is because of the winters. And, my next video does state that the winters are freezing, snowy, dark, and very long. However, this year it has mostly rained. Not much snow. Maybe global warming? When I was a kid and lived in Buffalo NY.. I remember the blizzard of 1977!! Man... that was a lot of snow. Ya know though, the summers here are beautiful here, when it's not raining... LOL. It's my home and my children are here so I live here. I hope you have enjoyed being in the Coast Guard, It sounds like you have traveled to many places. HOME is where we hang hat and the people we love are hopefully near. Have an awesome day.

@@sherrybirrerhomes The truth is I have lived so many places, I don't really have a home. When people ask I say Rochester NY because that is where I went to High School. I have many warm memories from Rochester, so many great friends. My goal when I left Rochester was to serve my country honorably, which I did then go back home find me a nice girl, and start a family, on Sundays go to church, go to the World Wide News magazine store, and home to watch the Bills. Little did I know I wasn't going to marry until I was 30 (a French woman 8 years my junior) and did not become a father until I was almost 40, oh but what a ride it has been.

Texas was like a lunar landscape compared to what we have here in New York State. I made the best of my time while living there, but I could never see myself staying there any longer than I had to. Extreme weather conditions and most of the state is so freaking barren and bleak, and boring! I vowed to never return there, or to Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, S. Carolina ever again, and I've kept my vow to this day. Each of these states aside from a few coastal cities/towns had nothing much to see or to enjoy as far as I am concerned. Once you are spoiled by what we have in our region of New York across to the Adirondacks, and down through the FingerLakes to our Southern tier, over to Long Island and our coastal region, as well as along Lake Ontario up to the St. Lawrence, you find fault with nearly every other state you visit. No place offered up so much diversity and pure enjoyment as New York has for me. Our winters in the Rochester area are so mild compared to other areas of the state, and there are so many activities to enjoy through our winter season that most everyone can find something fun or delicious to experience. Winters can be what ever you choose to make of them, in or out of your own home, while visiting or entertaining family and good friends, or sampling incredible restaurants around our area, attending winter festivals, ski resorts, wineries, the shores and parks around Lake Ontario and the FingerLakes, museums and historical sites, concerts, sports, and numerous classes are offered around our area where you can learn just about anything your heart desires...the activities are endless! No one should ever utter the words, I am bored, there is nothing to do here, while living in our great state. We truly are spoiled, and I always tell people who complain about how expensive it is to live here, that at least you get what you pay for. So many states I've lived in are lacking in basic amenities and services, have regions that are devoid of just about everything you may need or desire, including diversity and culture, that I couldn't wait to move away from them, and eventually realized that there is no place like home that can satisfy and fulfill me like New York has and does🥰😍

I know this is the point of the video but I'm not going to lie. Sounds more like five reasons to move to Rochester. Especially the small city commuting. In 2017 and 2018 I was inspecting restaurant service repairs in Houston and averaged 120,000 miles driven per year without leaving the city. Now my work is 3.9 miles from my home which is just a bike ride through three neighborhoods in one of the ninety-one suburbs of Houston. But that is across town in Rochester. Sounds nice.

One thing I always miss about Rochester when I visit other cities around the country, is the available food here. So many import shops run by immigrants and people with a strong cultural heritage.. German, Greek, Polish, and especially Italian food, along with many others.. most of them are top quality, and extremely affordable.. last time I was in Miami, I had lunch at a sub shop. It was inedible being that I'm so used to my local delis.. and pizza?? FORGET IT! There's fairly good pizza all over the greater Rochester area, and people visiting from other cities(excluding NYC) would probably consider it exceptional

Some states I've lived in didn't even offer consistency and quality across national restaurant chains...like WTH! I'm surprised you didn't mention, unless I missed it, the number one reason for me of why I hated living in Rochester and that was the winters. They are beyond atrocious and I went through many of them. I left my hometown of Rochester 35 years ago for South Florida where I've been ever since. I do miss certain things about Rochester but most of things I miss are gone, like their thriving downtown of the 196os, 70s and early 80s. I worked at many of the restaurants and clubs downtown and it really was our little Manhattan with our Sibley's department store and all the fabulous restaurants and shops. Of course that died in the mid to late '80s and is no more unfortunately. My sisters and their families all live in the pittsford area and it is indeed lovely and I used to spend a lot of time on schoen place myself. Ultimately, I would like to spend summers in Rochester and get away from South Florida a bit and hopefully we'll be able to do that in the not too distant future. Oh I have to say, I still have good friends in Rochester also and the number one complaint I hear from people is about how run down much of the city is and how dangerous it is.

H🐸I CookingArtGuy - Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and reasons you enjoy Rochester. I'm a divorced mom of 4 children and I fortunately live in Village of Pittsford. My son needed to stay in the district and I found a home to rent so he could finish out his high school years in Pittsford. Walking along the canal trail with my two dogs is wonderful. I'm grateful everyday to be here. It's funny you mentioned the long and very cold winters because I feel the same way. If you watch my KZfaq Video - Moving to Rochester - Things to do and consider, I talk about the winters here. I grew up in Buffalo NY and moved to Rochester NY for career in pharmaceutical sales, the winters have always been tough for me too. However, for about 15 years I skied with my children at Bristol Mountain and I looked forward to the snow to get in a good skiing time. I had my hip replaced in 2019 and since then have chosen not to ski and believe me... the winters have become very long, dark and cold... so I'm right there with you. Downtown Rochester has changed a bit since you left and trying to make a come back. There are a few nice restaurants that help make a difference downtown. The Cub Room, Good Luck, and Tornados are just a few of the nice restaurants to make a difference and have increased and interest to go downtown. Please let me know if you come to Rochester NY to visit your sister, I'd love to show you around. Florida is indeed a nice state to live in, however, for me I couldn't take the heat. It's very hard on me and I find it difficult to breathe especially in the summer. Two of my sisters fortunately have a winter home in Florida, one on the gulf side and one on the ocean coast side. There are pros and cons living in Florida from what my sisters say. Thankfully, my sister's home in Cape Coral did not get touched by the recent Hurricane. One thing I'm thankful for living in Rochester NY is that we don't experience any natural disasters. Mother nature is very unpredictable. I hope your home in Florida has not been impacted and if so I hope not too bad. Here's to wishing you the very best... life is precious and I'm thankful everyday.

@@sherrybirrerhomes thank you so much for taking the time to answer and we'll definitely check out more of your videos. Believe it or not, if I hadn't mentioned it already, thinking about moving back to Rochester after 35 years in South florida. I would say the main reason is that I just need a change. Also, the last hurricane had effects that were a little too close for comfort. A tornado ripped through a development about a mile west of us and did substantial damage. I can't say that I haven't enjoyed living here because I've loved it and had some great experiences. But there's two of us and we're both pushing 70 and I have family and friends in Rochester and some things are just more important than palm trees and nice weather. I would love to live around the park avenue area as I have always preferred that area and the rents, compared to South florida, are very affordable. We wouldn't be buying this time just renting. We've owned four homes and now a condo here in South florida. Anyway, should we decide to move back up there, if I can get past the winter thing lol, I'll drop you a note and thanks again for being so kind as to respond. Frank

The famous Rochester White Hot Dogs made of pork are excellent and quite unique in the USA. Zweigle's is the best brand. The white hot dogs are really a take off on the famous German bratwurst sausage. Heavy German immigration to Rochester in the late 1800's brought this tradition to the Rochester area.

HI Walter, check out my newest video... "Here's the skinny on Rochester NY - 7 reason why I find it hard to live in Rochester NY. #1 REASON IS THE WINTERS!! I find it the most difficult here in the winters. I think the key is to either ski or be a snow bird. Being in here all winter long is tough. I know because I am here all winter. One of my sisters is a snowbird and loves it. When she comes back here in the summer... she loves it here too. I used to ski before I had a hip replacement... now I'm kinda nervous to ski and I think my body doesn't like the cold anymore. Check out my newest video and please leave comment - I would love to hear your feeback.

I have to say that I have to agree with your "narrow-minded" part. I moved away from Rochester 35 years ago as I always found it too conformist. Everybody seemed content to get a job at Kodak or Delco or someplace like that and just work your entire life there so that you can retire and hopefully live past 65 lol. Believe it or not, I'm actually thinking about moving back to Rochester after 35 years in South florida. I'm almost 70 and I have sisters and family and a couple very close friends up there and those are things you start thinking about when the Grim Reaper is starting to dance around you lol. I love the Park Avenue area and would want to be around there. But if I were younger and wealthier, I would definitely move to Los Angeles, which I love, and which is a heck of a lot more exciting than Rochester. But I've had a lot of excitement here in South Florida so I'm good.

Family moved from NYC/Westchester to Rochester when I was young so my brother and I didn't need to face the wild 70s and 80s NYC schools. However, after college I went back to the Hudson Valley. I have a lot of friends there still an visit often. That said these are my takes on Rochester first, there is only one place and time to get a garbage plate Nicky Ts downtown at 3AM after the bars let out or you are done bouncing drunks at Heaven. If you know you know everything else is just not the same. Second, the people are very courteous in a mid western sort of way its odd at first but you get used to it. As for sports Rochester is great in fact scores in the top 50 in the country for murders, oh wait murder isn't a sport sorry my bad. Frankly I feel safer at the time Time Square subway stop at 2 in the morning. In Rochester there are three season; Donner Party Snowing, Pot Hole blooming, and road construction and you can experience all three any day anytime of the year. Finally, what is comfortable is its always the same. I left 30+ years ago and there are a lot of the same people doing the same things at the same places, It never seems to change much.

Hi Ralph, People come and go. They leave mostly due to the winters. My latest video... has the winters as being the main reason I find it hard to live here. Sports fans are pretty crazy here. As far as the crime rate goes and feeling safe. I live in the suburbs an leave my car unlocked and in the driveway. I love to walk my dogs in the summer and feel safe. There is more crime in the intercity neighborhoods and small amount of areas not so good. Rochester has been building in the city and it's really nice in the city. Every city has certain neighborhoods that aren't the best. I hope you enjoy living in the Hudson Valley. I've never been and sometime I'll try to get there.

I maintain a lower calorie count daily and alcohol is too many calories. I enjoy staying healthy, alcohol doesn't help to keep my body healthy. Although it is fun to have a glass of wine or two once in while. I'm a mom divorced mom of 4 children and 3 or them live with me. Also, I have a part-time job and I'm a realtor. Doing my best to keep everything going. I also have 9 pets. 7 cats and 2 dogs. I live a busy life and enjoy my pets and children very much. @@amysheffield9583 I emigrated from the USA to the UK back in ’98 and became a naturalised UK citizen in 2004. I only visit the USA every few years now. Each time I do, I see more businesses and houses boarded up and American looking shabbier and, of course, fatter. Americans like to think that they live in the best country in the world when in fact they live in one of the worst countries in the world: lousy healthcare system, low pay, virtually no employee benefits, etc.. America, love it or leave it! I left it! BTW, there isn't any God and when you die you're dead. And Heaven is a fairytale to put you to bed.

Horrible city schools, the third poorest middle sized city in the whole country, Homicide rate as bad per capita as Chicago, extreme winters that last for ever. Rochester city politically leans hard left, (beware Republicans), a broken bus system, (and you can't get "RTS on demand" if you live in Rochester city). That list is just off the top of my head.
