Quick NOTE: I know that for some of you it can be tempting to skip straight to the AB comparison with the same cab but I would highly recommend to also listen to the amps in context of the music with selected cabs. Keep in mind that in the end you will all use different cabs anyway. I also think that the selected cabs give a better idea overall of the character of each individual amp. Don't forget to let me know your favorite and why! Cheers guys!

“Keep in mind that in the end you will all use different cabs anyway.” Which is exactly why some listeners arbitrary insistence on using the same cab, and even the same settings on each amp, is so ridiculous. It completely misses the point of your demonstration, which I very much enjoyed, by the way. Thank you!

The same settings on this amp would be completely pointless. Amps have knobs so you can use them :)

I don’t know if I can pick this time around! I love these types of tones if they all have something awesome and unique. When picking between them all with the same IR I might have to go with the Friedman maybe. But the Wangs is such a cool sound too! Excellent video!! Also, I totally commented on the last pickup test asking for mid-gain and then this pops up! Hahaha!! Love it!

My overall favorite was the JJ Jr. which is essentially a hot rodded Marshall. The 800 was everything you look for in a Marshall. Orange surprised me as it was right up there. Wangs reminded me of early Aerosmith Marshall sound. The EVH and H&K sounded more modern, but certainly close enough for classic rock in a live setting.

I listened to the A/B part with the same cab, and while they all sound very similar, there are slight differences. I really like the Orange for its fat mids while retaining clarity, and the Wangs for its bright, cutting high end and uncompressed character. The rest are more similar to each other, with the EVH being my least favorite by a slight margin for being slightly fizzy and too compressed.
@HiHello-ku1fl
@HiHello-ku1fl 2 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed going between timestamps so I could really hear the different flavors back to back. Very interesting. The Marshall and Wang's both have that classic Marshall crunch that I favor. Liking the Marshall just a tad more as its voicing just has a cool midrange also a nice texture that only Marshalls seem to have. Wang's was right there with it though. The Orange is very cool and would be handy if you want more mids and your guitar track to stand out or punch through and roar. I love Orange amps. A must have right along side Marshall, Fender, and Vox. Orange amps have a sound all their own. Friedman seems modern and refined and voiced in a way that its not sticking out or getting in the way .....for more of a modern well produced sound on the heavy side. The Hughes and Kettner is also a really cool sounding amp and sounds quality . I didn't like the EVH but can see how it could still be used for a different flavor. It sounded the cheapest for some reason. Best bang for the buck would be the Orange by far in my opinion. It does not sound like a cheap Chinese made amp at all. I don't know how they do it. Smart and simple design.

Wow some of the amps change the feel entirely in comparison. With these mid focused tones you're really at the mercy of the amp. The SC20 and the Hughes and Kettmer for the track. Imo. @@lpdog I use mine with a 2x12 Laney which used to have 2 Celestions 70th anniversary. The low end was a little loose and it sounded quite vintagey. I swapped one of them for a V30 and now I have the best of both worlds. Not too metal, good rocknroll vibe, tight enough. However, I would not call this amp a bright amp. Without boost, it's more on the dark side, even with PAFs on a Mahogany body/Maple neck guitar (which is veryyy bright). However, I boost it with a bright OD (MXR 78's) and it gets a lot brighter.

EVH is the clear winner here imo.

Why not use the 6L6 stealth evh, pretty sure it was eddies choice for gigs.

there's something very nice in that h&k amp. very in your face, and unforgiving if you're a little sloppy player, like me. but i recon it would help you become a better player. wangs is killer and orange. the rest are good, but not standing out like my favorite 3

got to the end with same cab sim example. goes to show how you can change your tone so much with cab changes. found wangs a little brittle and preferred the orange, marshall, friedman and again my favourite was the H&K. but the wangs still sits in a mix with the H&K best

I think for this particular sound I prefer the Marshall.

They all sound amazing, the marshall sounds the most open and uncompressed however. Orange gives that sex pistols vibe though :D

I have had a JCM800 since 1986, that is home to me. It sounded best here, followed by the H&K for a similar tone and the Wang for a lower gain tone that you could easily push with a low gain boost pedal. The JJ sounded like a modern modded Marshall, a little shrill. The Orange was VERY honky with it's IR, not usable IMO, but more in the ballpark with the Marshall IR at the end. The EVH was just not in the right competition, it was the metal amp in the rock amp fight. For me, the problem with the H&K is the same as with a Rectifier, the knobs make it a nightmare to use live because you cannot read the dials in the heat of a gig, old fashion chickheads like the EVH are best.

Marshall wins all the way!! Do you have a similar comparison for even less gain for stuff like pop / country / folk rock?

Strange comparison in amps... Or recordings, or my Marantz set. But all amps sound the same, but... The H&K won this battle/comparison in my believes

I wish the TubeMeister looked like an amp and not a failed christmas tree. Sounds great. but could not live with the design. For me it was Marshall and EVH at top.
