G'day Legends! This week I'm back on the rocks hunting a big Autumn longtail tuna. There's plenty of bonito about and I hook a tuna that might just be unstoppable....

Rob, what a great fight and a top fish! Catching the small fish at the beginning looked like fun too. Great to see you showing how to navigate such a strong fish away from the rocks and in through the surges. I really thought he was going to spool you at the start - we could see the spindle through what was left of your line!

Thanks John. I use Platypus Pretest off the rocks mate. It’s got good abrasion resistance for the stones.

Hey mate how do you get your livebait out into the strike zone of Longtails and how far out r they usually? nice video and fish as usual!

Thanks for watching mate. Getting good drifts is the hardest part of chasing longies I reckon. If you’ve got wind behind you then big balloons is the go as they’ll get blown out. If wind is to the side or in your face then real small balloons with A bit of water in them does the trick. Also need to use the backwash when waves hit the rocks. Lob your bait out as the hits and the backwash helps get it clear. You need to get your bait out last the white water for tuna as they rarely feed in the bubbles. I like a bait T least 50m out.

@@robtaylorshotwater huge thanks for the information mate, do you just drop flick it in the wave after it hit the rocks, letting it go out with the wave?

@@jzfishing103 Yes mate. More of a lob as it’s hard to cast far with a balloon so just lob it out right as the wave hits the rocks. Too early and the wave will push your bait onto the rocks and snag, too late and the next wave will hit it and snag. A bit of practice and you’ll get the timing worked out. Good luck

Mate - burley with bread and use any kind of fish flesh for bait. I like Bonito or tuna. Bread is also a good bait for them

Never get sick of hearing that! Weighed one recently that was 17kg dno if its the camera angle but looks way bigger then thrle ones ive weighed at 15kg.

Great sound hey. I might have underestimated it a bit as it was definitely a long fish and in good condition. Either way it went like the clappers lol
