Been waiting on some Bob Seger...why he isn't revered like Springsteen is beyond me...personally, I prefer Seger, as his songs always felt more personal, and "Fire Lake" (Live version from "Nine Tonight") was our sing along back in the day...The World needs him now more than ever!

Here I am, 65 years old and I still get the “feels” when this song is played. Growing up in that era, like many, that song was written for me. So happy to see Professor of Rock do an episode on one of the greatest songs writers of all time, Bob Seger! I was born and raised in Detroit, and Bob Seger is considered royalty to people like me. My dad didn't like most of the music I listened to growing up but the one we were able to agree on was Bob Seger. In fact, the first concert I ever attended was with my dad to see Bob Seger at Cobo Arena. Great memories are attached to Bob's music!

Seger is the best! I was flown out from California to Indiana to pick up a truck to bring back to the company I was working for, I was 19-20 single, tan, Beach blonde hair…driving thru the Midwest staying at Holiday Inns! This was 78 and there was a band in every hotel bar. Every girl I met thought that, if I was from So Cal then I knew movie stars, and I did not quelch that tiny white lie lol! Every Seger song was written about that drive. Even now when I hear Seger, I’m transported. To quote Roll Me Away….’next time we’ll get it right’

Haven't been able to find it again, but IIRC I once read that someone remarked to Bob Dylan that 'Seger was a poor man's Springsteen,' to which Dylan replied that 'Springsteen was a rich man's Seger.' I like that thought a lot. I saw Seger on one of his last dates on his farewell tour in October 2019. He was in remarkable voice, and band was very tight. A great evening, and a bucket list check mark made.

Bob Seger, the epitome of the American song crafter, and my favorite of his songs. I can't believe this song didn't make it to number one. I love that he found his motivation from one of my favorite movies ever. It just makes this song even more special. I also love the way he is able to tell a story of "first love" in a way that isn't crass or obscene, a talent that is lost on the current generation of "songwriters". The video with Matt LeBlanc and Daphne Zuniga is fantastic too..... although my first memory every time this song comes on is of the movie American Pop...... and that bridge....... My goodness, I love this song.

I was born the year Night Moves came out (76). I spent the next 3 years of my life being physically abused by my mom . I would get breaks when my grandparents would come take me. They finally adopted me when I was 3 and raised me. What got me through the abuse and any other difficult times in my life was Bob Seger’s music. Night Moves was the first record I had that was all my own when I was 2. I had every other album, too. To say what his music did for me is something I can’t put into words but I would give anything to have the opportunity to thank him for what his music did for me.

I always thought that Night Moves was just very clever in the structure of the song and the arrangement. So often when a rock song hits that inevitable change of pace (the slower part) the song sort of “dies” for me. However, when Bob goes into the slow, “woke last night to the sound of thunder…..” the song only gets stronger with more meaning. Masterpiece I’ll also add that for many of us, nothing really ever eclipses those times when hormones ruled the day! Definitely worth singing about fondly

This is absolutely one of those songs that fits right into the soundtrack of 'life', universally. My dad actually introduced me Bob Seger, and I remember exactly where we were and what we were doing- sitting on our front porch during one of our typical summer afternoon thunderstorms, I was eating Nilla Wafers, Dad was drinking an Old Milwaukee. The rock radio station came out of a line of commercials and Night Moves came on. Dad gave me a quick rundown on Seger... and we just listened as the rain fell. I tell ya, if it was 1 minute, it was forever. Damn, I miss my old man. Hard to believe it's been 13 years already. This was my first Bob Seger song I ever heard in 1978. It’s so picturesque you can see it as he sings it. It solidified itself within me when I snuck in my sister’s room to watch AMERICAN POP on HBO in the early 1980s, to see my now friend, actor Ron Thompson, rotoscopingly singing the song in that film. This song appeared in my childhood memories the summer I was free from my Aunt Belle’s stifling, abusive house and I went to stay with my sister, Irene

A song this well written can really only be inspired by a heartbreaking event. This song is truly a timeless masterpiece and they don't write them like this anymore. That song was produced down the highway from where I live! Cool! Bob Seger really could tell a great story and what a wonderful collaboration behind this song, almost as if the music gods where moving the right pieces into place. This is a perfect song. Cheers from Ottawa, Canada🍁

A favorite memory of "Night Moves" stems from when I was a high school teenager. I was prone to waking up during the 6:00 hour, and It was always dark during the winter. I can remember the alarm going off and this song being on the air a couple of times. The sound of Bob Seger singing the last portion into the pre-dawn atmosphere would sent shivers down my spine.

This has always been my favorite Bob Seeger song - and one of my favorite all-time songs - along with “Main Street.” Night Moves captures that universal feeling that most teens experience - the mystery of sex. Sadly, with the proliferation of social media, cell phones, and the Internet, sex is out there for all to see. But before that, is was a source of awe and wonder. Bob’s voice captures that awe and wonder with a voice and lyrics like no other. He takes you back to a time and place that, I fear will never be replicated. The Internet is an amazing resource, but, as Sting so aptly sang, “Never saw a miracle of science that didn’t go from a blessing to a curse.” Thanks, Professor, for another excellent piece.

His voice is captivating...a true rock voice...like Bryan Adams...raspy and strong. And he can sing everything from ballads to harder rock songs. And to top it all off...the stories that are Americana! Well done Prof!!! You are the Casey Kasem of KZfaq!

Bob Seger's classic tunes always prompt a volume increase. Bob Seger is a true American Storytellerand I LOVE "Night Moves"...the song AND the whole LP. It takes me back to Middle School every time I hear it. It's my second favorite Seger tune of all time. Number one is a track that I would love for The Professor to feature in a future episode, and that's "Fire Lake". It's such a unique sounding number with a treasure-trove of unforgettable phrases: "Chrome Three Wheeler"..."Uncle Joe and Poor Aunt Sara"..."Bronze Beauties"..."Eights and Aces". And some of the BEST background vocalists ever...The Eagles. I don't know if Henley's in there but one can CLEARLY hear Timothy B. Schmit and Glen Frey (reprising a role he held a few years earlier on "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man"...).

My favorite Seger tune is Against the Wind. A couple unforgettable lines: “Wish I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then” “I began to find myself searching…searching for shelter again and again”. You also touched on a song that I believe is a vastly underrated rock tune: Somebody’s Baby by Jackson Browne. Man, so many great oldies! As Seger later sang: still like that old time rock and roll!

As a child of the 70's, I remember and loved this track growing up. My most favorite by far! **KZfaq Challenge** ***Professor of Rock Challenge*** @ProfessorofRock This track was released on the film "FM" in the late 70's but I remember viewing on a different film which I cannot find reference to anywhere on the internet. From what I can recall, this "Mystery movie" had an end sequence where a car accident or something happens. A night time shot freezes on the taillights of a car and then slowly pulls away from the scene showing a single black-top road with trees lining both sides. The credits roll as Night Moves begins to play. That's all I remember. Artifact: I saw the tail end of the movie during the early 80's when Showtime & HBO were first hitting the market. I programed the newly invented VCR to record a different movie and caught the tail end of this "Mystery movie" whereby I heard "Night Moves" for...The...very...First time! 🙌 I'm a young 51 at the moment so I don't think the faculties have left me just yet so can someone please verify the name of this movie that I KNOW exists! Much thanks

I'm sorry dude, we part company at Springstein. Bob Seger yes. Bruce Springstein no. To me he was a jarring reminder that tastelessness sometimes has mass appeal. My personal Hell would play a non-stop loop of Springstein. I guess he's the one artist I will openly admit I cannot stomach. But hey, we're talking about Bob Seger. He was a hero of my older brother's generation, but grabbed us up too when Risky Business dropped in the early eighties. I don't know, it was as if Seger's thankfulness that he had somehow managed to become a hit musician was palpable. He seemed genuinely thankful for his connection with his fans. That's not necessarily the case with many "big stars". And his hits will endure, by their nature.

Another case in point with utilizing Bob Seger's songs in movies for that effect - the 2019 movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood had Ramblin' Gamblin' Man played as Brad Pitt's character drove thru nighttime Los Angeles (one of the best scenes from that movie. which may have won Brad the best-supporting actor Oscar) during the summer of '69; there were a lot of songs from that time frame on the soundtrack, but Bob's song garnered the most attention.
