Today, we are reacting to Demi Lovato's new track "Dancing With The Devil". This song goes alongside the KZfaq documentary by the same name. Honestly, we are left speechless. This track hits hard.

I literally cried for HOURS with a shaver and a bottle of pain killers listening to this song in a loop because I was going to break an eight year sobriety/S.H. Clean Streak, and I decided to play this and skyscraper and got through the time. This woman doesn’t give herself enough credit

I actually took 20mg of percs right before and cried like a baby, less than 2 months ago I was there and lied my way out of the hospital, was so pissed at the people who got me sent, I was just tired of the fight to be happy and only thinking I feel ok when I numb but that’s what makes me hate myself. It’s a hard circle to escape

Bianca my mum once told me about how in AA, and probably in other addiction programs, the concept of "One Day At A Time" was helpful for her. In the first couple of years she would follow the advice that sometimes you might need to reign that in to 5 minutes, or whatever amount you knew that you could go without drinking, and repeat, as often as necessary to maintain your sobriety. I'm happy to say that both my parents remained sober for the rest of their lives. Not long lives mind you, the evil tobacco got them both, but they were very happily sober for the rest of the time they had. Basically it's whatever gets you through that crisis. I'm sure that Demi hoped that others might find strength in her story. I'm so glad that you did❤🙏❤

Ironically, that's often the nature of trauma. Maybe not on such a public or conscious level, but many people attempt to relive aspects of their trauma in a subconscious attempt to "fix" what was broken or went wrong. That's why a lot of abuse victims continue seeking out people who end up abusing, etc.

I really appreciate that you said it made you uncomfortable. She is sharing something so personal and you know it is all real. The video is dark and captures your attention, but liking it almost feels wrong, doesn’t it? I think it is because of her interviews, and the documentary is so honest. Artists write from personal experience all of the time, and as hard as it is, Demi is doing the same thing. Her voice is undeniably amazing. I haven’t listened to her whole album yet, but after hearing this song I’m really looking forward to it. Sorry for such a long post, I just really liked that you were honest about being uncomfortable. People don’t talk about drug addiction, mental health, or abuse because those topics make them uncomfortable. But you said it and it was honest. That is the best reaction I have ever heard.
@UnderTheCovers
@UnderTheCovers 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment! I really appreciate it, and you are so spot on. The discomfort comes from knowing what she had to go through and her exuding that through her words/emotions. You can feel her pain. To be quite honest, I am child of an addict myself and a certified addictions/mental health counsellor. I worked in the field full time for just under four years. Having worked with clients, and hearing their stories/hardships it just kind of hits different when someone get really real. It can be tough to hear cause you also know what it's like to be in that moment with someone fighting for their life. You know what that moment truly feels like and what it's like to be there. Thank you again for taking the time to be real with me and comment. It is very appreciated. 🙂

Thank you for responding! It takes a lot of courage to live in a state of being uncomfortable. I hope a lot more viewers get to experience your reaction. It grabbed my attention because of the way you changed the name. That’s sort of random to add to you in a “thank you for responding,” but I’ve ignored all of my regular subscriptions so far. I know channels do that all the time, but it seemed like you were going to take it more seriously than just praising her music. Your background completely helps me understand why you did. Please keep making great reactions - not expecting anything like this - I’m a new subscriber!

@@UnderTheCovers You might especially like that album because she’s mentioned how she was dealing with a lot of trauma from being pressured into sex on the set of camp rock by a fellow actor being so young. So that was I assume the start of a lot of her issues that she attempted to cope with by using drugs. Along with her fathers neglect, bullying for being overweight and the eating disorder from her childhood. She’s had a tough life, but haven’t we all in some way or another. Be kind to others.

I think the best songs are the ones that are REAL and PERSONAL because they are RELATABLE! It helps sooo many people to know that EVEN celebrities who are made out to be so perfect most of the time struggle with the same problems normal people struggle with! It proves that they are only human like the rest of us! I actually don’t really care for songs that are artists just bragging about their wealth and fame or how “amazing” they or their life is because most people can’t relate to that crap! The “I’m rich and hot, look at me” songs are just disgusting to me like good for you but why you got to throw it in everyone’s face, so the fact that this song IS so real and personal is what makes it great.

I think the word that you were trying to find was intrusive, it felt intrusive to be listening to this level of intimacy from a stranger. Although from a writer's perspective, if the listener feels as if they accidentally overheard a private conversation, or confession, maybe even a prayer, then the artist has achieved their goal.

The amount of emotion she exudes and what the song is about makes me want to find out if she usually sings it in such a formal setting. Her voice is classically beautiful, but the song, the actual words, seem like such a contrast to that type of concert. The story she is telling is the absolute REALITY for millions of people in their every day life, does he not understand that? Can we please STOP saying things like "tried to take advantage of her" and other diminishing words, when speaking about rape and other forms of sexual assault? I know all about the twisted algorithms, but you can get around that and say things like "the POS drug dealer R worded them", or "They were sexually assaulted by their POS drug dealer". This isn't meant to single this channel out by any means. I have made this basic comment about this important issue before. When we cloak these brutal, ugly, violent, and life altering acts in euphemisms it downplays the utterly horrendous nature of what has actually happened to the person who has been assaulted. It can also make rape, and other forms of sexual assault, seem like not that big of a deal to some young men. At the same time, these cloaking words are frequently used to placate young women who try to speak up about getting raped, something that has been seen at far too many college and university campuses. All I ask is that whomever at all might read this, please think about the importance, and the impact of the words that you choose to use. Thanks to anyone who read this!

I appreciate your comment but the seriousness of the situation doesn't make me uncomfortable, quite the contrary. I am rather used to it. Not only can I tell you this as a child of an addict/alcoholic but also as an addiction and mental health counsellor. What makes me uncomfortable is the way that musicians have to expose themselves bleeding their emotions and deepest secrets, being entirely vulnerable to the masses for the music industry to exploit and for the world to judge (for better or worse). It makes me sad for them, it makes my heart hurt for them. But again thank you for your comment.

@@Jismysis Cry me a river was also a fantastic song. 👌 Wow, Great suggestion! Maybe an oldies reaction video?? I'd watch the shit out of that! Thank the lord for people like you @Ak and your comments ! 🙏 We NEED more hate in the world, it really inspires artists to make uncomfortable songs! Keep up the good work on the hate, YOU are the inspiration 🤑
