our county school buses sounded just like these when i was going to school, sadly they were replaced by newer ones, I really miss hearing the sound of these great engines.

That's because it's lugged right down with that load. Notice how smooth the two stroke Jimmy is! A 6-71 is as smooth as a four stroke V12.

This video sounds AMAZING on stereo speakers! Almost like being there. I live two miles from here, and I could hear this truck working all day!

That the best sound in the world. Good ole Detroit

@Alsaire No on both counts, the steering was a conventional hydraulic ram boost, and that truck had a great air system. No leaks at all. If you steer with the truck in motion, the booster doesn't have to work at all.

A Jimmy will smoke when lugged down, even when it is new. The engine gets more fuel than it can use when it's lugged down. You'll notice that in normal service it hardly smokes at all. The 6V92 TA will often blow a puff of black when you first start out. So do Cat engines.

If that’s not a Detroit, you can kiss my…my dad had a GMC Brigadier and I could hear that truck coming from miles away…just a screaming Detroit 🤙

@brian93ist No, Volvo did, then I think Hitachi. GM owned both Euclid and Terex, but if I remember right, the US Government made a stink that GM had their fingers in too many pies. They forbade GM from making trucks for some years, but they kept the tractor and loader lines going under the Terex name. They also continued to build the trucks in Scotland and Canada. Something like that, anyway. Check Wikipedia!

Actually they are very similar, because the superchargers used on gas engines are modified versions of what Detroits used back in the day. Look at the model numbers of the superchargers, and they are numbered after the Detroit engine that size was used on...for example, many big-blocks use 6-71.

GM bought Euclid in 1953 making dumps, dozers, loaders and scrapers. An Anti Trust suit was brought against GM in 1968. The Euclid dump truck division was sold to White Motor Corp. GM could not compete with White for a number of years. White had financial problems and sold Euclid to Daimler Benz who kept Euclid dump trucks for about 5 Years before selling it to Clark Equipment. Eventually Euclid trucks and Michigan Loaders were sold to Volvo to form VME . Michigan loaders were discontinued and Euclid dump trucks were sold to Hitachi and that was the end of Euclid as a brand name.
