it is such a shame how Dire Straits were treated at the Ceremony. They couldn't even get someone to induct them. Who ever organized this year's ceremony should be fired or at least disciplined for their disrespectful actions. The only saving grace was that the Dire Straits members who did attend got their trophies earlier than the other inductees.

John Illsley did a broadcast with Knopfler about Knopfler’s iconic guitars, seemed like they were getting on just fine in that. I think it has to do more with Knoplfer’s disdain for the trappings of fame.

I feel ashamed to say that I was never a fan of Dire Straits, and I am 64 now. Yes, I did hear Sultans of Swing, and a few of their hits on the radio over the years, but for some reason, I never took the time to get their albums and listen.Yet now, in 2021, I am totally blown away by their music, and they are already retired!!!!!! HOW COULD THIS HAVE HAPPENED??? The other day I listened to a live video of Sultans of Swing, and I could hardly believe it. I listened to that video at least 5 times, and again the next day. I have not felt that much pure joy from a song since I heard "She Loves You" by the Beatles at 7 years old! How could I have missed this fabulous band? Is there so much music in the world now, that we miss some of the greats? Thank God for the videos and the records, at least I can catch up now. Thank God the music is timeless. To make matters worse, I am an accomplished singer/songwriter/guitar player! (not famous) This will change everything now!

Guy Fletcher is a genius! I absolutely love his work, and he seems a really nice guy, too. He writes the recording- and tour diaries during MK's recent work and tours. Very interesting to read the musician's perspective about a concert that one has been to. I have seen MK and his new band five times, and every single time, it is the best concert that I have been to. MK and the people with him in the studio and on stage are like a good wine - better with age. :)

For me now in my early 60's, Dire straits - in particular Mark Knopfler- came into my music experience in 1977-78 with their first album. Whilst there are many great guitarists about, few could match Knoplers timing and precision on the Strat. For me the timing etc was absolutely awesome. I wasnt overly enamored by all of DS/ MK stuff and though I have most of their work, I feel the early stuff was the best as the original band.

it is so pathetic that this audience had no great respect or admiration for this band, John Illsley had to tell them to stand up to show respect, and they were reluctant. I feel bad for John, but he had the guts to do that and I don't blame him. what a bunch of jerks these people in the audience are. Do you know who dire straits is in the Rock 'n roll music history ? something unprecedented and never something similar can show up again.

It's actually wrong that no one inducted them, and they basically had to do it for themselves. Why do Dire Straits get the hate they do? I mean a band or musician that is/has been inducted into the hall of fame, means that they did something for music, for rock that contributes something to the future of music, it's a massive achievement. And with Mark's storytelling and his unique guitar playing, I just don't get how more people dismiss this band, it just doesn't make sense. Unless it's because "it's not cool or rock n roll" to like Dire Straits, because some people are convinced their a "dad" band, maybe, but for a "dad" band, Dire Straits rocks better then most, and deserve more recognition then what they get, as this induction is a shit show, just glad some people had sense to vote...didn't know it worked through votes. Either-way, I'm happy they made it to the hall of fame, and I shall be playing their music till the day I die

Does anybody know why Mark Knopfler decided to be absent? Being humble perhaps as he is usually? Dire Straits is one of the finest bands we had the chance to listen and this was the chance for the fans to share a good time with them and remind to the guys they're still in the soundtrack of our lives. I know in 1995 Mark said "it became too big", I understand music industry requirements and fame were too heavy so he decided to reset all that dropping the "Dire Straits" label and the fantastic line up built through the "On Every Street/On the Night" years but his voice/music/lyrics/songs and the band members/additional musicians have been present through his solo years. Perhaps Mark Knopfler greatness needs no more prizes or acknowledgments but I think the rest of the band deserved a fantastic hour being acknowledged, listening/telling compliments and memories powered by Mark's presence, they all are awesome!! If I love rock through Dire Straits music it's not just by MK's awesome talent, but because of the bunch of all those talented guys (even the session and tour musicians that worked with them). Alan and Guy are in-house fantastic keyboardists/pianists but When I read Danny Cummins played percussions in Ulta (Depeche Mode) or Phil Palmer produced a Franco DeVita album I already knew they were super-stars thanks to Dire Straits last tour. I'm sorry it was a watered celebration, the guys deserved a raptuous and warm celebration. John Ilsley is a gentleman and acted great in that weird role of being presenter/receiver but he deserved to be totally happy that night.

Moje zdanie jest takie, że Knopfler poczuł się urasony, że jego grupa zostaje wprowadzona do RRHOF dopiero teraz zyli ze 25 lat za późno i nie chciał w tym uczestniczyć. Ds to Mark Knopfler. Koniec i kropka.

John Illsley left David Knopfler out of his endless stream of acknowledgements. Pity....David was the other bookend of a first class rhythm section in the bands infancy and an awesome talent in his own right, still is today. His rhythm work at Rockplast 79 on "Where you Think You're Going" is flawless and a true compliment to Marks' lead.
