Speaking on what Rise had to say: Waiters and waitresses (most of service industry) are especially nice in America because they have piss poor wages and have to act extra nice in order to earn even a livable wage from tips. It is quite soul crushing for most and we are most definitely not "beaming" like that all the time. So if you visit America, please tip those in the service industry!
