for steam knob, you don't need to turn it all the way to the right (tie). You can set your knob to the point steam starts and turn back (to the right a little) just enough to stop the steam and re-set your "R" logo straight (easy to pop out and reset using flat head) as your new stop steam marking. That way, you only need 1/2-2/3 turn for full open. That's what I do and very quick control for steam on my R58.

Yeah, someone else also pointed that out, and I have to say I feel pretty dumb not noticing. It seems so obvious now. I blame the fact that I don't often use it, preferring espresso's to milk drinks. Thanks Davis Lee!

That is exactly right! The reason is that the valve is a so called „non compression valve“ which means that you are releasing a spring with the valve. You don’t have to screw it tight…

I've got the R58 V2, that is the previous model to your subject, I've owned the machine for around 3 years. I just thought it worth a mention that the pre-infuse position on the lever pretty much won't work unless the machine is plumbed in, it will then infuse at whatever your mains water pressure is and then, when the lever is fully raised, on goes the pump and extraction is performed at 9-9.5 bars. Enjoyed your vid, thanks

Definitely - good point. I've plumbed mine in and although I've not done anything scientific, it feels like the preinfusion which I do for about 5 seconds is enough to reduce channelling. I also like having a high quality BWT water filter fitted into the mains so I don't need to worry about messing with the water either!

Hello, nice video. Always refreshing to hear critical reviews on products used longer than just a few days, as sellers never have anything negative to say about their products. not to steal from the monotony of cleaning polished steel, perhaps consider placing a piece of card stock behind the group(10-20cm wide) whilst you pull a shot/steam milk. A temporary 1 min back splash, maybe even laminating this sheet of card stock paper for an easy wipe once a week.

Fully agreed with couple of issues you bring up. I can confirm all of them. In addition I struggled with steam milk quality....it is not on a good level to make nice cappuccino for my wife ( I only drink risterto or short 1:2 espresso). Also, all good things and advantages I can confirm....including real good taste and quality of espresso this machine bring to me. Definitely worth the money about 23 hundred of Euro....which is still half price of Mini Linea or Dala Corte Studio I had in mind...

Can’t believe i just found your channel. I’ve learned so much! And to return the favour 1) preinfusion that you are talking about was never e61’s intended function. It’s more of a hack ppl found. So it’s reasonable to think no manufacture will put a feedback device. 2) in regards to splashing water from drain. Try lowering the lever gently instead of slamming it down.

Hi Sammy. Recommendations are always a poison cup. But I'll be brave and give you a couple names - I accept no responsibility for any terrible experience you may get. But I will claim the recognition if you have a good one. I bought mine through Carvetii Coffee, they resell rather than import, but it didn't cost me any more, and I help out a small business and maybe have one other guy to go to for help. The importer in SouthEast I know if is Coffee Bay, based in Surbiton. They used to focus on business coffee machines, but now do a lot more of home machines. When I had an issue with my water tank, I took it to them - they were 20mins drive from me, and they fixed it for me in their workshop. I was pretty happy, it's been good ever since. The other guys are Bella Barista, but they're up North, and I've heard mixed reviews. Good luck and let me know how you get on. I have a question. what brewing temperature is max? mine is 100c. but when I read manual that shows me more high temperature. and You metioned brew temp is 94c ok, but brewing water temp is not high, 45, 56,78 etc... not match the pid temp vs brewing water temp. need time after pid shows me the setting temp... I want to know max brewing temp..
@bartalks1810
@bartalks1810 2 жыл бұрын
The brewing temperature is not necessarily the same as boiler temp. It depends on the system you've got. You want to know temperature at the grouphead. If you have an E61 machine, you can get stickers that show the temp of the head, if it's integrated, the PID should be pretty accurate. Then the right temp is dependent on the beans. It can be in the 80's or in the 90's, 100c is too high. I've never gone above 95c and usually hover around 92-94. I had a great coffee yesterday made on a Decent that was 85.

Regarding the daily calendar for heating up / turning off the machine: another hobby of mine is aquariums and aquascaping. In that world it's critical to have your lights turn on and off every day at the same time so that all the plants get the correct amount of light and CO2 so that they grow quickly and use up excess nutrients in the water and you don't get a massive algae bloom making your tank look like a murky swamp. Instead of buying very expensive lights with programmable daily timers most people use smart plugs and dumb lights. You can get a whole bunch of these smart plugs and control them all over Wifi with an app on your phone and program a different calendar for each one if you like. I'm actually a bit surprised that people in the coffee world haven't really caught on to this yet. Is there a problem with leaving a machine switched on all the time and having the power turn on and off at the mains? I can't think of one but I don't own an espresso machine (yet).

I have the exact same issue with my R58’s water tank, and the distributor / Rocket both ignore my emails (to the point I’ve considered legal action, but I’m not in Italy). I’ve opened up the machine but don’t see how I can fix it? So frustrating as the sensors don’t even seem to be providing a useful function.
@bartalks1810
@bartalks1810 Жыл бұрын
James, if you're in the UK, the place I had mine fixed was nearby Surbiton. I'll try to find out what they were called - but the guy just took the frame apart and put it back together again tightening the base around the area the water tank sits. by adjusting that he effectively modified the shape a bit. It didn't last forever though, and went back to playing up. Defo a manufacturing defect imo.

@@uccdh ah, damn. I didn't go to rocket at all - went straight to this fella in Surbiton who was the importer. By chance it was only 2 miles from where I lived at the time and he fixed it while I waited. An idea might be to visit some small specialty coffee shops in your area, ask them who maintains their machines - I bet you'll find a local guy who knows how to pull them apart and fix them. Tell them it's just a case of reseating the case in the frame so the sensor works. Unfortunately, you'll have to pay for it out of pocket, when it should be within the warranty, but if Rocket doesn't answer, I don't know what else to suggest :/

Nic, I watched the serviceman go through the troubleshooting, and it's not technically difficult to fix, just time consuming and a bit fiddly. He took off the top and right side panel. Then he loosened the screws / nuts at the bottom plate, and pushed them into alignment (I think this is a bit of trial and error) and tightened back up while holding it down. He did this 2-3 times until it seated correctly. Yes, I agree with you - not a good design because it can so easily move when being shipped.

I usually check the manufacturers reputation for supporting old models. Many of the electronics I've seen on machines use standard boards that are easily supplied. In time as all espresso machines get electronic, there will be a community of hackers that will supply replacements or upgrades just like they do for the car market now.

First of all, thank you for your video, but as a rocket R58 user, I would like to convey that the situations you mentioned are not a problem. All professional espresso machines are based on a standard mechanism, many of the issues you mentioned in your video are the same for all semi-automatic espresso machines, so they are not a problem but depend on usage variability. If you see these as a problem, instead of using these devices, you should prefer fully automatic, rectangular or square devices with buttons all over. Your video is in the form of what can I launch in order to create a little topic. Rocket or any other model, these are professional devices and that's what makes them beautiful. In short, I would like to convey that you are exaggerating a little, and you have also been unfair to this model.
@bartalks1810
@bartalks1810 Жыл бұрын
Hi Volkan, I accept that these may not be a problem for you, but everyone is different. Certainly they were things that annoyed me - the difficulty in cleaning of the machine, the fact that the tank sensor was misaligned and had problems recognising when the tank was seated properly are real issues. Other things like maybe are preferences. But for sure I spend time pointing out the issues, not because I think it's a. bad machine - it's not, I was a happy owner for years, but because people who watch review videos often want to hear the 'other side' from the usual marketing content. Thanks for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate hearing alternative views.

What I don't like is that the green light is always on if you use the on/off timer. But that's not a big problem I think. The Synchronika isn't perfect,too. Hi Musikus, at this price point its a good choice with some qualifications. I've had it about a year now, and it's never let me down. I love the touch screen because it's so simple. Mine is hooked up to the mains which I highly recommend. The temperature control and build quality means I just don't have to worry about it. Be aware of a few things though. First, a few people, including me had issues with the seating of the water tank when I first got it. It needed adjustment. Second, the cup warmer has holes in the top and If you're not careful coffee muck will drop down into the machine. Talking of muck, my biggest gripe is that the machine is very difficult to clean. All said though, I'm very happy with it at the price I paid - just over £2k.
