My Rocket Stove gets a custom grill/smoker attachment that works surprisingly well! #rocketstove #woodcooking #offgridcooking #offgrid
If you are looking for a 6 inch rocket stove, I do not currently build these for sale. I recommend Chiasson Smoke who I have NO AFILLIATION with. He seems to make a great product www.chiassonsmoke.com/product...

Since I'm seeing common questions I'll answer here. As for the direction of the grill, it's easily rotated to 4 different positions, I much prefer all openings to the front to keep from walking circles. I'm constantly adjusting the main damper, adding wood and watching the meat. Not to mention it looks better this way. I've already cooked a few times on it and it works great this way. Keep watching, I do show a diffuser plate for indirect heating, a future project might be a plate with holes to perfectly fan out the heat, we can do whatever we want with accessories. There are grooves cut into the 6x6 tube in the grill to allow fat to drain and burn in the chamber, I didn't show that in the build. I'll edit this as repeat questions keep coming, thanks for watching and the support.

I really hope sharing our thoughts isn't gona grow too loud, for me, watching someone exercise their imagination and building things, awakens a similar drive in my imagination and it feels really good. Thanks for all the inspiration and will try not to be too much of a back seat imagineer lol.

@@hammerslap5639 not at all, I love the feedback and want this to turn into a long build series, especially for the next cookers that are coming. With that said, if I see repeat questions it's better to address those early instead of repeating myself over and over. It takes a busy night of responding and cuts down on some of the same things. Take care!

Just a suggestion for future builds. If you are concerned your cylinder is slightly out of round, do not use it as a templet for the sides. Do "the math" and take the 48" circumference and calculate a 15.28" circle. Then fit the cylinder to the new sides. It will then be round. Love the builds, keep them coming!

I built a rocket grill a couple of years ago, but took the easy way out. I had an old Weber gas grill. I gutted it and cut a 4" square hole in the bottom. I had built the rocket out of an old "lolly column"...it already had a square base to it. It works just like yours. You can shut the lid and smoke (we have tons of hardwood) or rev it up and sear steaks or burgers.

I was absolutely enthralled by 5 minutes into this video! Had a few questions that were answered in the video as well as in the comments. The got super excited and knew exactly what you were putting together when you started the cup holder addition! But to add the hook for the thermostat and fire poker…🤯🤯🤯!!! Love the modified way of attachment with the pins, too! Can’t wait to see the videos that come out as you get it dialed in as a smoker/sear/grill combo! Absolutely amazed by this attachment! Way to go! I think this has been one of my favorite videos for the rocket stove by far! Love it! Love it! Love it!

Washing this video and seeing your burn barrel in the background made me think of something that you should probably do. You should make a metal box so you can make your own charcoal. Basically just need a good solid metal box that you can throw into a fire if it’s fairly airtight chunks of wood inside will burn without igniting and turn into charcoal. but with all the metal stuff you’re making and all the grilling and stuff you do plus having the wood and everything it just seems like a good fit for you to make a video with

I've been thinking of doing a project like this for a long time. But health problems have put a stop to that for how! One thing that I was going to do was off set it to one side. It would be more like cooking in a barrel pit, with your fire on one side. I'm thinking with the size of grill you have, it would give you room for 2 or more rack of ribs. And your drip pan will not be getting as hot. But it looks like it's going great as is! Hope this helps! Great looking grill! Y'all stay safe

Suggestion for your pullout on the welding table, why not use a bolt and lock nut to hold the two pieces together but yet have the nit slightly loose to allow the flex so it don’t bind and then you can pull all out as one piece again

Fabrats on YT discovered a weld through paint marker/pen that you can mark steel with and weld right through it. Maybe spot welding on opposite corners like tightening lug nuts would help keep heat warping minimal. Weld a corner here, go around the work piece, weld over there...etc even for spot welds. (not a welder, but i watch Fabrats)

I definitely move my welds around, warping is a real problem.

you've got enough tools and room to build a spaceship in there. rocket bbq 2.0 will be even better, you'll remember all that could've been done better and have new and better ideas for improvements too 👍😊

It looks like this would work well as a wood fired pizza oven.

Looks great! What about a pizza oven attachment? Get a pizza steel and build a dome with the fire being thrown up the back

I thoroughly like this concept of a rocket stove grill/smoker. What's your plans for a deflector and means to feed a fuel for a slow cook and smoking though..?

I like the sheet pan, but might make one with random size holes to evenly distribute the heat.

Cool, now you need to have a griddle to add to it or a rotisserie roaster spit, maybe some wheels so you can move it easier, since it’s also a smoker I wonder why you didn’t put a chimney on it, could you use pellets, could it also have a Santa Mariah style grate that you can move up and down or an accessory to hang meat over the grill to cook vertically

super cool but a deflector of the flame might help unless it gets red hot, how can you moderate the airflow to make it burn slower?

Close the damper, works very well.

Another thought: I know it’s a rocket stove but there’s no reason you couldn’t add a side chamber on there that mounts on the backside and make it like an offset smoker and on the connection piece you could put a nice damper valve in there, so you could really control the temperatures. I know on the Komodo and green egg cookers you can buy an electric temperature controlled damper as well that opens and closes based on your temperature settings. Just a thought but since you’re building all these accessories for it, my one thought, was that to do a slow cook you Will probably need to keep adding fuel to the rocket stove part, if you just built an attachment that you could take on and off, you could also have it be an offset smoker or you could have a much bigger fire with a lot more fuel choke down that you could run for hours without a lot of maintenance. This looks like a fun project with all the options you can think of
