I know it’s just an instructional video but remember to keep the handles of your frying pans on the opposite side of where you insert the wood. This will avoid any potential burns from the heat source and overheating the handle of the frying pan Above and beyond the temperature range of the cooking temperatures. I realize you will probably use a glove or safety feature when removing the frying pan from the rocket stove

Hello from Australia 🇦🇺, again a great video with, again, a great even and well presented opinion. As a chef(24+years) and also a lover of camping, this was very informative for me. One quick pointer on cutting your food, hold your left hand( if right handed) on a more 90 degree angle. So your thumb is behind your pointy finger, middle and ring finger. This minimises your risk of cutting your thumb and pointy finger. But again Chris, fantastic video. Over the past few years I’ve very much enjoyed your even and pragmatic approach to prepping. I try to hold to the same principle. Stay safe and please keep your informative videos coming. Much respect and love from the Southern Hemisphere.

As far as the use of a knife, it’s going to seem strange to start but the benefits in the long run will be worth it. Good knife skills are important, perhaps now more than ever. And cutting meat and especially seafood can result, if not careful, can be extremely bad if you’re not careful and have respect for your tools, as with any tools. Prepping, I’ve learned is about the stuff you have, so much as your ability to adapt to what is around you. Again stay safe everyone and let’s keep our eyes open and our minds free from the little things and focus on family, friends and our community

I built one with bricks and a put gas stove replacement grate on top. It's not as easily transported, as the bricks are heavy. I just use it for outside cooking around the fire pit. Really efficient way to cook. I use a cast iron skillet on that. I put a grate in the fire pit, so I can cook on that using a cast iron Dutch Oven. It's good to practice cooking on them.

Good stove. We have a war in Ukraine. My comrade could not evacuate and remained in the occupied territory. Small cottage town. There is no electricity, no natural gas for heating and cooking. He had a rocket stove. This stove helped him a lot to cook food and survive in the difficult conditions of the occupation. After the liberation of his town and stories about life in the occupation, all the acquaintances try to buy similar rocket stoves.

Did not know these were insulated. You could easily make a "stick rack" to feed rhis so long sticks won't fall out once the end is burned. This would work for a pressure canner, you would just need to watch it CAREFULLY.

Other than the price, the only thing I don't like is there is no way to dump/remove the ash build up while still cooking. I would add a tray in the air intake with raised sides and a angled rear lip that matched the angle of the bottom of the chimney. Maybe even hinge the face of the tray to give some control of the air flow.

Way too pricey for what it is, and also way too heavy, at that weight and price bracket one might think they'd be better off splurging on a hot tent stove instead, as they are about the same weight give or take and there are even ones that fold away. Oh well, each to their own I guess.

Comparing a tent stove to a rocket stove is like comparing a pickup to a sports car. Two very different uses and attributes.
@ailfawka6278
@ailfawka6278 2 жыл бұрын
sure they look different, but the result is similar for that specific use case. Feed it wood, create heat, use that heat to cook food etc. I guess a tent stove does have more use cases, like being more compatible with enclosed spaces with their modular chimney kits and also accessories like water tanks, fold-out tables, hangers and whatnot, but when someone's going to choose a product over another they are going to choose a product that has the most use cases and the best value for money. I look at that product, and I don't see enough value for money to justify the price tag. What can this product do better than a much cheaper product with a similar use case? I want to like it, it looks 😎cool and durable.

It doesn't have to be a rocket stove like that. Any wood burning stove will do, even a folding wood stove, but it won't be as fuel efficient, nor will it be as durable. Wood gas stoves come in many sizes and are much more fuel efficient, and can be very affordable, so you should check those out first. As a single guy, a rocket stove is quite an overkill in terms of fire power, but I can understand if you want this if you have a large family to feed. And many in the comments have already mentioned, you can use bricks and cinderblocks, especially if you're not moving anywhere soon.

I appreciate KZfaqrs have to monetise content and not everyone has the equipment to make something like this but you could quite easily make something like this with a bit of second hand box section and a borrowed welder. You could probably buy a cheap mig welder for the comparable cost of one of these stoves. An even cheaper option would be to make one from cement or bricks but then obviously it wouldn't be portable

During the Excessive Fire in the stove; notice how the Flames flare is capable to escape at the almost verticle, Wood supply 'open area'; that would be covered if the wood is present or a metal cover. But its best if the Wood Supply 'port' was angled Between Verticle and Horizontal (Your thinking 45°); but Possibly closer towards 90°; Parallel to the Air Supply-port; If a Length Extension isnt present; because during a 45° Supply port; to retain the Flames Mostly at the Fire-pit & Verticle, the Horizontal extension is attached to the 45° Wood Supply-port! Especially when considering that Outrageous (Analyzation of a) Price!

@@PhantomLife Not at all Eddie. The point is everyone can look at something and think of ways they think it can be improved, however, until you build and test your ideas you do not know how it is going to work or what improvement it makes. I look at the F-35 and wonder why the A version has such small wings. They should be bigger like an f-15. Yet I do not build airplanes so I do not portend to be an expert. Get my point. If the gentleman can demonstrate his point with a working, improved stove, I want to see it and engage in a collaborative conversation with him. If not, it’s an armchair quarterback situation. The topic he is referencing is one I have researched and tested. The small amount of draw created by the angled feed tube is negligible. The trick is to manage your coal bed and volume of wood to create laminar flow in the system. It takes a little practice but it is easy to accomplish. We will be producing a video on best practices in the near future on the Minuteman KZfaq channel.

1200 degrees F i think. That is 666 degrees Celsius. Hot enough to get bad burns. Copper melts at 1120 degress Celsius that is around 2000 degrees F.

How do you clean the ashes out?
@minutemanrocketstove4195
@minutemanrocketstove4195 2 жыл бұрын
The bottom tube is where you can remove ashes. Just take a stick and pull as much of the ash and coals you need to from the bottom opening to create solid airflow while still retaining a decent amount of coals for heat. Maintaining airflow through the opening is paramount.

Flames should NOT protrude from the feeder port, that should be a draw to feed the fire inside. Fire should only be at the very top and not excessive even there! You want heat at the top not high flames! And the wood feeder port should draw air and not emit a flame! Despite its good looks this is a very poor design! The wood feed port needs to be longer as does the tops of these stoves!

If the grid goes down for an extended period of time then most of us are going to be miserable! In 2012 when we got hit with a derecho and lost power for a week in temps in the upper 90s, we spent our time during the day in the creek and slept on the cool basement floor at night. (My gas generator died the first day... and it cost $100/day in fuel once I got it fixed several days later. I bought a solar generator after that!)

As a Tucson, Arizona native we lost power in the summer a few times in 110F temps. Keep your hair wet and stick your feet in water. Wear wet clothes. Fan yourself and try to find concrete or tile to lay on, and stay as still as possible. Drink plenty of water and electrolytes. Do any work in the evenings, during the night, or early mornings. Cook outside using a solar oven.

Most older homes had a fan in the attic in the hallway and you could open your windows and run the fan it would draw the air through the house. This motor would be much more efficient to run with less demand on generator or solar panels. May not be as comfortable but it's still some relief.
